I'm not super feeling it either, but, uh, here we are. GARY: I don't know. I mean, it's auction week. Auction's coming up. I mean, by the time this, this will be, uh, released on Wednesday next week.

GARY: Viewing night. Bought some new bouncy castles.

KYLE: Okay. Brought, um, a mechanical bowl.

GARY: I think the mechanical bull will be there.

KYLE: Okay. Think?

GARY: Uh, well, I'm not doing it.

I can't handle it, right? It hurt my head last time mentally. But have you delegated it? I'll delegate it to someone that's a very cautious person. Okay. Think scares me. It's very dangerous, eh? The mechanical bull.

KYLE: Yeah, if you turn it up?

GARY: Nah, it just doesn't, like, it'll just, yeah. It feels like a total liability.

I don't know why I ever bought it. But now that I own it, I'm Dutch enough that I feel I have to get used to it. It costs a lot. I got in big trouble for my wife, too, for the new bouncy castle.

KYLE: Oh, what? Why? That's a business expense, no?

GARY: That's what I said, but not

KYLE: okay. How much does it bounce a castle?

GARY: Oh, I didn't even know what they cost.

So that right away, that was a red flag. You're right. If I didn't know,

KYLE: that doesn't seem very Gary. Like you, what do you mean? You don't know what they cost. You just told someone to order. Yeah.

GARY: They showed me what they look like. I'm like, that thing's awesome. Buy a couple of those. And

KYLE: how much were they somewhere

GARY: [00:11:00] between five and 7 ,000 each, I guess

KYLE: that's pretty reasonable.

GARY: They're huge. They're huge. Like they're twice as big as the last one we had. I think they could be a Beekman auction expense. I don't know who, who is responsible. Steve, Tim, somebody took care of it. So a lot of fun. A lot of people have fun at the event. Right. And it's a great community event and it's fascinating.

Um, I just realized, uh, driving somebody crazy. Um, it's interesting that, uh, I'm

KYLE: so lost right now while you're laughing.

GARY: Well, because I'm always having my internal dialogue going while I'm talking. Yeah, yeah. Like if you were in my head, you would just, the voices are screaming at me. That'd be a real

podcast.

GARY: It's a total disaster.

KYLE: That reminds me, did you listen to last week's Sunday Sermon?

GARY: Not yet, no.

KYLE: Oh, it is so good for Matt.

GARY: Okay,

KYLE: so

GARY: Leviticus, the second

KYLE: part of the Pentateuch. Yeah, he hammers on sin. And, and like that we're actually like just as sinful as the next guy. And he said, uh, you know, like in cartoons, sometimes you have the bubbles on top and you can [00:12:00] see what somebody's thinking.

GARY: Yeah.

KYLE: He goes, let's say we had that all for a day.

GARY: Yeah, we should.

KYLE: Like, for a day. Like, we would all go hide, right? So no one could see our thoughts and the different shit that goes in our head. Like, it wouldn't last very long. And Matt's like, I'd probably run off stage because you guys, some of you guys are mean.

And, uh, but it was, uh, it was a good time.

GARY: Anyways, all that to say, um, there's very few community events anymore. Like

KYLE: our community in general,

GARY: community in general. So our auction is a lot of that. That's why people, I think a lot of people are, we feel like people are very supportive of it. Even if they hate it.

KYLE: I mean,

GARY: I hate strong word. Um, they, if they, like a lot of people think they're getting hosed, right? But they'll still participate in the auction and bring stuff and buy stuff. Like they feel like it's criminal activity with how much commission we take, right? Then

KYLE: don't,

GARY: then don't partake. No, I mean, it's, it's a joke.

It's a bit of a running joke, right? Uh, the small stuff takes so much work and effort. You [00:13:00] know, it takes the same amount of time to post 15 pictures of something that sells for $30 as something that sells for $30 ,000, right? It's the same story.

KYLE: But why don't you want to record? You just came from a vacation.

Like you seem pretty relaxed. We were chatting downstairs. Usually you come in here like totally wing nutted out. You seem pretty chill today.

GARY: No, I'm not. I mean, I came from just dealing with a load of hay at a customer. Had a great chat there and um, I feel like I'm just trying to get my bearings on all the things that are going on.

I haven't been to my mechanic shop yet, which I need to get over there right now.

KYLE: Have you hired a

GARY: sales guy yet for your hay thing? No, very difficult, very difficult. Yeah, yeah. But I went, used to be part of a, um, young farmers group. That was a advisory group for Farm Credit Canada, which ironically you posted your new logo.

That was FCC.

KYLE: Yeah.

GARY: And I was going to make a smart remark. Well, someone did. Not to be confused with Farm Credit Canada. Like, what is this guy thinking?

KYLE: A guy replied to my, my story and said, hey, Farm Credit Canada.

GARY: Yeah, yeah, that was the first thing that I thought of. I had the message typed and I thought, oh, you might take that as criticism, and I know you're pretty sensitive, so I don't want to hurt your feelings.

KYLE: I would not care. [00:14:00]

GARY: I'm sensitive, so I wouldn't hurt my feelings.

KYLE: No, it wouldn't. If I would have said I don't like your logo.

GARY: Yeah, I'm very sensitive.

KYLE: Um, okay.

GARY: Or to be confused with something else, like here, I thought I just nailed it. FCC, like that's just farm credit Canada. Like that's all as farmers.

That's all we refer to.

KYLE: I just needed something to cover. Um, cause when I started my company, it was just coaching. Right. And so now recruiting as well, and I want to add more podcasts of content, so I need something to

GARY: changing. Okay. So anyways, I used to be part of this advisory council for farm credit Canada and went to these meetings in Ottawa with CEO.

And one of the things that the only thing I've really remembered from was when he said, hire slowly. fire quickly. And so I've tried to, you know, I mean, I think you can hire too slowly. And at the end of the day, you know, there's 90 day trial period. There's at the, you've got to try things. And, but I think from the employee perspective, I'm very aware of that.

If you're making a change from another business, it's a very big decision for a lot of people. So as a general rule, most employees. Like stability and [00:15:00] a lot of things, you know, they're coming on. They sure don't want to think that in 90 days, they're going to be going through this process again, especially if it's not in their control.

Mostly, I think it comes down to control. People are just want to be in control of their destiny. I know they're not, but employers, employers,

KYLE: especially. I

GARY: think employees too, I think everybody's grasped, humans are grasping for control. So the minute that people think their stability is getting uprooted in any sense in life, it makes most people very uncomfortable, right?

KYLE: That's

GARY: why a lot of people walking on eggshells around me all the time, right?

KYLE: Because?

GARY: Because they know digital stability, right?

KYLE: It's amazing how much of, of, uh, how you grew up as well affects that. Like, I'm pretty comfortable being alone. Um, but I was super alone most of my, my childhood as well. And so it's something you just got to get someone comfortable with, uh, like fending for yourself versus environments where you're not that way.

And it just, you know, it

GARY: affects

KYLE: you.[00:16:00]

Good time in Mexico though. Did you go with just Marie or the kids

GARY: too? No, with the kids.

KYLE: All of them except for Dom?

GARY: Everybody but the little guy. Yeah. Five kids for five nights. Never done that before. I might never do it again. Went really well. Yeah, well, right after the, uh, violence there in Puerto Verde.

KYLE: Yeah. Dice and cheap.

GARY: I said, Marie, I bet you we can go pretty cheap right now. Oh, why didn't I think of this? That's why we went. That's why we went.

KYLE: Can I ask what you paid for it?

GARY: No.

KYLE: Okay.

GARY: No, no, still a lot of money, but it was very reasonable compared to, uh, like if you compare it even to what? You know, it costs for two people to go at another time.

Um, and it was interesting because we were going to have a politician on the show today with us Um from the conservative party. We'll maybe have it remain unnamed the person unnamed for now

KYLE: But

GARY: it was interesting because the resort I was at the premier bc was there so I was hanging out with uh, with his kids and Yeah, and his wife very nice lady and uh It was fascinating.

I gotta look up something in a minute. Cause [00:17:00] I'm gonna say the, well actually I can remember now. Um, I'm reading another book. By Rosaria Butterfield right now. Called, uh, I think it's the,

KYLE: Secret Thoughts of an Unlikely Convert? Yes. Or The Gospel Comes with a Door Key. I

GARY: think it's the first one you said.

I'll look it up in a minute.

KYLE: The Secret Thoughts of an Unlikely Convert.

GARY: Yeah. Really cool book, highly recommend, just in the, but I read it as, uh, right after I had, uh, hung out with, um, David Eby's wife.

KYLE: Okay.

GARY: And, it was fascinating, I said to Maria after we left the resort, we were talking about the experience of hanging out with them, and I won't get too much into it, because she was pretty honest and we had a great conversation, but, other than to say, I think we really dehumanized people that, uh, are from a different political spectrum, like myself included, which I was really

KYLE: convicted

GARY: of and thought just to think of like how, you know, we as Christians should be the most, we should be the most gracious with people that, that don't know the Lord and don't.

Like they're getting, these are people [00:18:00] that, you know, it didn't get into the weeds too much because just mostly just caring for kids and throwing footballs in the pool and just trying to, you know, be friendly and be kind. And

KYLE: get to know the person though, like, like, and understand, like, it's kind of like the concept of why I started the podcast initially in 2019.

It was like, you have people on different sides of a, of an issue and they're just like hurling insults at each other, how the other person's dumb and you know, I know my beliefs, whatever. But if you don't take the time to understand why someone is the way they are, uh, it's not gonna. It's not going to help you like, like someone that has pink hair.

They didn't randomly decide one day to have pink hair. You know, it's like a liberal, liberal meme. Um, and no, like there was a series of events in their life that shaped their belief system and how they got there and to help get, get them to that point. They're not just trying to like be malicious for no reason.

So taking the time to learn that and understand that and ask questions and,

GARY: or even more like, um. It's fascinating how all the people that I'm associated with don't change much, like they do exactly what their forefathers did. So most of these people on the other side of the [00:19:00] political spectrum are just doing what they were indoctrinated with as well.

And it's funny how we can so quickly justify everything that we've been indoctrinated with and are 100 percent sure it's right. While not like, not that we, we could even say, Hey, we really disagree and could see all the faults in the other side, especially like the socialism side of it, because that never has gone anywhere.

Like you can just look through the history books and see that the idea of, you know, free this free, like free, I hate that term, but you know, the idea of socialism, socialist policies, which, you know, or for its, you know, safe supply and these types of policies, which are so destructive, which, you know, that the NDP would push in BC, um, that's obvious.

But, you know, just the idea of like, Hey, these people grew up in homes where if you grew up in a home where your parents supported the NDP and, and, you know, you grew up in Saskatchewan, let's say, or whatever. In these areas, that's just how you're brought up and that's the way it's going to be. I think what was more,

KYLE: that's why I think education is such a big focus of, uh, a lot of liberal policies as well, [00:20:00] or, or, um, just policies in general.

Like if you can get a, teach a kid when they're young, These different doctrines in the education system, whatever else like that, you

GARY: know, that's why it's so scary about the what's going on in the public system. And it's fascinating that even people that are left leaning probably have a lot of concerns about it, right?

Because they can see, you know, some of the ill effects of those types of policies,

KYLE: but also the power of the media, right? You're educating people on what's going on in the world.

GARY: Yeah. Yeah. I guess the thing that struck with me When you hang out with people that are You know, obviously well known and I mean, people, it was really cool how she did say, um, one thing I would say is that people are really respectful of the fact that, hey, You're a politician, but we don't inundate you.

We don't be, you know, so that was encouraging to hear. Cause I just,

KYLE: well,

GARY: I think like people are not harassing them in public. Even, I mean, we were just having a nice conversation. We make a big deal of it. We never got into the, you know, she started going,

KYLE: which you have known that you were, what, how you would have viewed things, but.

GARY: think she had a, so, I don't, I'm scared to even say this because, [00:21:00] I mean, this is public, I think she probably put me in the middle, in the mushy middle. Um,

KYLE: she's going to watch this one day and be like, oh no, it's not going to happen. He's

GARY: a psychopath, this guy is. Well, so that's what I'm trying to say.

You can have people that are probably differing policies so much. Both of us want the best for our children. Both of us want the best for our country. Both of us want the best for our province. And the, and the idea of how we think we get there is so starkly different. But yet we're both different. Trying to be good parents and I think that's what's lost and that's what really convicted that that was the conviction of my heart Yeah, where I have put but I and I see it all all over social media how people put people in the evil camp You know, they're putting themselves up, right?

KYLE: Yeah. Yeah. This was Matt sermon on Sunday Okay. Yeah. He goes like, you are putting people in the evil camp and you're like, kind of make excuses for yourself and your own stuff and stuff like that. Justifying

GARY: your

KYLE: own stuff. You're not really that bad and stuff like that. And that does not, not help because you are already coming into [00:22:00] the conversation then.

GARY: On a pedestal.

KYLE: Yeah. It doesn't, never works.

GARY: So, I was convicted of it and then combine that with the story of um, With Rosaria Butterfield who so clearly articulates as a lady now. I don't know where even though I haven't got to the end of the book yet.

KYLE: Yeah,

GARY: you know, but in the beginning of the book where it's, it's some reform Presbyterian pastor.

Um,

KYLE: yeah, so she's a, she's a, uh, a lesbian professor, English professor.

GARY: Well, yeah,

KYLE: at a university,

GARY: well -educated, uh, and, and, and a real advocate for A lot of very left -leaning policies. Uh, so fascinating story and her story of at least the point now where she's on in her journey, so different than like, people always say to me, Oh, did you invite them to church?

Like,

KYLE: no, don't do that.

GARY: Well,

KYLE: be slow to do it.

GARY: Be slow to do that. I love people. Well, get them in your home, be hospitable. Like, I think that was the number one thing that I've gotten from it so far. I think that, Hey, we should have all of us. If we do not have non -Christians in our home, people that are, you know, people that are from different [00:23:00] walks of life that have varying lifestyles of us.

We are not being the salt in the light. No. Um, and, uh, I don't know how people that think, you know, people that are judging everyone else in their sinful lifestyle. I don't know how they expect those people to come to know the Lord, but it's most likely going to happen through people who are not. You know, you being friendly and caring and kind to people that you really disagree with.

So, how are you doing in that?

KYLE: And

GARY: I struggle with that, so that's been very convicting for me.

KYLE: It goes back to, um, one of Central's, uh, the church we go to, um, our, their goals is, or what they teach is, I think the scriptures, Uh, uh, lines up with, well, the point of a church is to, and a pastor is to equip the saints, the believers in the church for ministry.

GARY: To be the disciples.

KYLE: To be the, to go make disciples and stuff like that. It's not primarily through the preaching that people get saved. No, it's through like, they get to know about Christ or whatever it is like that through his people in the world. And then, uh, When they become believers or get interested in something like that, they can start coming to church [00:24:00] and out of their own because church is a place for believers.

GARY: Yeah,

KYLE: by the way, great book to read is uh, Nine Marks of a Healthy Church by Mark Denver. If anybody is uh interested in that topic, but anyways

GARY: auction week brings out the worst and the best in people.

KYLE: Going back to what you said earlier about, um, we should especially be gracious towards Christians, or sorry, non -Christians, um, and, uh, and trying to reach them.

I think that's also true for in the church. Like one of the things I've realized is Just because someone goes to church, don't expect them to act like a Christian. Especially not if they say they're not a Christian. And I kind of had this idea for a long time, that if they went to church, that they, and they weren't acting a certain way, that like, there was this, like, um, misalignment.

But...

GARY: Well, that's because we grew up in a culture where if you went to church, you called yourself a Christian.

KYLE: Yeah.

GARY: Which is just bizarre.

KYLE: Yeah, that's right.

GARY: They still do. I just,

KYLE: and so if you haven't [00:25:00] repented from your sins and believe in Lord Jesus Christ,

GARY: you are not a Christian.

KYLE: You're not a Christian.

And so don't, you

GARY: might be a church goer.

KYLE: That's right.

GARY: We should start using that term.

KYLE: That's right. So if you're frustrated with someone in that camp for what, how they're behaving, don't expect a non -Christian to act like a Christian.

GARY: You actually don't even want them to because they're deceiving themselves and everybody else and deceiving ourselves is the worst part.

KYLE: Yeah. It's a, it's a fraudulent, like Bible's pretty clear. You either live for sin, Satan and world. That's right. Or you live for Christ, like there is no in -between.

GARY: Yeah, we're not doing the purgatory Catholic thing.

KYLE: No. That's after you die, isn't it? Purgatory?

GARY: I don't

KYLE: know, it's

GARY: still, it's still the, yeah, it's just this weird.

KYLE: On the flip side though, we got some listener feedback that said, if you, if someone is listening to Gary and Kyle for theological input, they need to get their head checked.

GARY: Yeah, I went to the guy the other day, he told me that, I, Interrupted our lunch meeting to pull out my phone and put that quote in there.

Well, because I was talking about some of the flack that we get, right? And which we do. We get, you know, I take some heat, right? Some criticisms of general degree and uh,

KYLE: I usually [00:26:00] hear about criticisms through other people. I rarely get it directly, but okay.

GARY: One of the things that, uh, I ran into somebody hiking the other day and the person just said, like, just read

KYLE: the Bible more, man.

A hundred percent, yeah. That's...

GARY: Like even us, right? Just like... I think it was more just...

KYLE: On the podcast or

GARY: just... Yeah, I think so.

KYLE: Yeah, I mean, we, I, I was actually thinking about it because when we started this thing, I would do like one proverb a week and we read through the book.

GARY: Um,

KYLE: which the last two chapters,

GARY: we went away from the books.

We got to get into something, uh, some different book.

KYLE: There's two, two that I still want to like the Treasury Principle, which is like the mini version of the book, Money, Possessions, and Eternity you just read. And, um, Evangelical Pharisees, which is also a small book by Michael Reeves, I think it is, but that, that one is like,

GARY: I meant to bring the, um, Randy Elkhorn book in, cause I finally finished it on this last trip.

KYLE: You gave one away last year. When you read the first one,

GARY: okay, well, I have another one to give away. So if anyone does want to read it, I mean, Marie said it's a lot easier to listen to. She listened to it and I think he reads it and he is a pastor. [00:27:00] I think he's very well spoken, Randy Alcorn. Um, I got to the end, he does a lot of, he has a couple of practical chapters about like, obviously giving and tithing.

And I wrote a few of those things on the show notes, but even just inheritance, like he's, he's very much against, you know, giving necessarily like equal amounts to each kid. A lot of things are very counter to that. Kind of like what

KYLE: Paul Weeney was saying on my interview with him. Does

GARY: he say that as well?

KYLE: lot of what he also believes comes from Randy Alcorn's

GARY: book. From Randy Alcorn's book, that makes sense. Um, I just think that in our culture, and I, I mean, I've done some estate planning, I guess we're just so wired to kind of build wealth. And he talks a lot about, you don't even know if you'll be wealthy in five years from now.

Why don't you give it away before you lose it all?

KYLE: Yeah. Yeah.

GARY: Which. I could kind of identify with that.

KYLE: Yeah, so you can do it?

GARY: I mean, I'm working on it. One donation at a time.

KYLE: Yeah, yeah, you don't know. We don't know the future.

GARY: Well, and it's [00:28:00] this balance of like even running a business where You know, how do you, I mean, I think it's like, yeah, how do you, how do you, how do you give away, like, how do you give away your money and how much do you save?

And, you know, I think even as a husband, some people would say it's very responsible not to have money saved. What if you pass away and your wife's left as a widow? Like, what's a healthy amount? It's a weird thing, right?

KYLE: Well, money's like one of those things like sex where people don't tell anybody about it.

Like, it's totally private. Um, and I think that's not wise. Like, I think you should always even,

GARY: sorry,

KYLE: I think you should always have a couple of guys in your, in your life or people in your life,

GARY: very transparent,

KYLE: very transparent, including your bank account on like what you're spending money on. And like, how much you've saved up and why

GARY: you are,

KYLE: I would

GARY: agree with

KYLE: you just be, just be real and seek counsel.

Um, and, uh, And just be open about it. Cause usually, yeah, I think it's just good and healthy to do on that note though. I think there's also just a very big lack of education on these topics and like how [00:29:00] to, um, you know, to, to, I, I didn't necessarily have a lot of mentors in my life early on that were teaching me these things, or I was just doing it all on my own.

And, and I think it's helpful just to have those kinds of guys, guys that have experience. And, uh, and so Trey, um, who coaches for me, um, he's doing a new program right now, but it's group coaching.

GARY: Okay,

KYLE: so it'll be like six guys, but he's teaching the 14 principles of, uh, the U .S. Marines leadership principles of the U .S.

Marines. And so he'll be taking six probably start, uh, either May 1st or June 1st, um, six guys. She'll be in a group every week with six guys and then also do the journaling thing and Trey will be teaching the 14 leadership principles and getting advice from him and

GARY: So

KYLE: anybody interested in that can

GARY: reach out to you.

It's interesting. Cause my experience has been that very few guys, cause I've had a lot of great examples and a lot of people talking to me about money my whole life. And many of them were influential in the idea of like how to make more money and how to do business things well, and just things to buy that were wise to buy and things to invest in.[00:30:00]

Um, and now with the way. So

KYLE: that kind of advice wasn't necessarily Christian money advice. It was,

GARY: well, I guess some of it was, but very, very little of it was holistic per se. Right. Where like, you know, the guy that like, and nobody's nailing it, you know? So even Randy Alcorn, and I think he does a very good job of being.

nuanced enough and humble enough to say, Hey, you can live in his, his best words in the book are, and it's a book that most Christians, we don't live this way. He says to live in the tent, you should be living in tension all the time and not unfearful, unhealthy tension, which is maybe where I go sometimes, but just that wrestle of like, Hey, am I giving away enough?

Am I saving enough? Am I generous enough? And I think that, you know, his general argument is, Hey, Most people are not generous at all. Most people have no idea what sacrificial giving is. And, and I would agree with that. Like, I'm embarrassed to say, I don't know what that is. So like, that's my wrestle, right?

That's my tension of like, what does it mean for our family? And I don't [00:31:00] get to do that at the sacrifice of like punishing my wife and making her life way harder. Like,

KYLE: you know

GARY: what I mean? I still need to love and care for her while and cherish her.

KYLE: And,

GARY: and,

KYLE: but that's way more associated with time than it is with money.

Like, like there's a lot of like, um, Trey often has said to me, he goes, women aren't gold diggers. They're security diggers. And you know, there's like, it's, uh, I think more mainstream culture that

GARY: unless they are, and then just run for your life.

KYLE: No, but what does money give them security? Right? That's why initially they get it, but if you can give security in a, in a dump of a house, but they feel safe and loved and known,

GARY: like

KYLE: they're going to be happy, right?

KYLE: then, uh, Easter and Monday, uh, what is good Friday and Easter? What does that mean to you? Do you think about it much? Is it you just say, we go to the church on Friday and, and, and Monday, just another weekend or like, has, do you remember when it became significant to you?

GARY: Yeah, I think the journey of, well, even now reading, the more I read, the more, cause I've been doing way better job reading. The more I read the Bible, the more. impactful it's becoming to me. Um, I will admit that this week, like our, our spring auctions falling right at Easter, which is a major problem. Like, not that it's going to interfere with Easter, but I'm just saying like, even going to church on Friday morning and then having people pick up equipment and all these people work against a total disaster.

The more I'm thinking about as I'm sitting here, I'm embarrassed about it now. It's a problem that, um, we take what we get for our, uh, for our bookings on, on the auction. Um, I [00:33:00] find that Like we try to make it meaningful in our family. I feel like our church does a good job, even with Lent, where it's like definitely a build -up period to Easter.

And I feel like...

KYLE: Do you remember when your first Easter as a Christian, if it carried any weight? Because for me, it went really nothing. I knew that Good Friday was when Jesus, um... Did you know actually Good Friday is on a Thursday next year? Because of leap year? Anyways, um, uh, Good Friday meant nothing to me, but I remember my first, um, Easter as a Christian, Good Friday was huge.

It was just like, wow, this is like when all the wrath of God went on Jesus instead of us, and he said at the end, it is finished. Like there's nothing more, like it was no

GARY: more price to be

KYLE: paid, like it is like the most incredible thing, but Easter, I never really understood because I was like the fact that he rose out of the grave, like what difference did it make?

He said it was already done. So if he, GARY: you

KYLE: know, I didn't get it. And I was trying to [00:34:00] get explanations from my dad about it and other people. And I just never really understood it until I think it was, um, the podcast from Cliff something. He's an apologist that went on Logan Paul's podcast. And, uh, and shared the fact that it, it proves that he's God, you know, it, it proves that it was also accepted by God, um, when he, um, rose from the dead.

And, uh, and how big Easter is and the, and the victory in that, that he overcame death and that we will also all rise from the dead or, um, all, I think everyone will, right? And the Christians will, um, I'm going to be giving new bodies.

GARY: Makes me think of, uh, have you watched the West Huff, have I talked about the West Huff Dyer CEO interview on here?

KYLE: Uh, yes you have, yeah.

GARY: Okay. He talks a lot about that. Uh, you know, he's, he, he's a great defender of, uh, Of, uh, of the faith and just in a really practical way and, and knows enough history that aligns with [00:35:00] it, like I think, and that was another thing that, um, in Rosario's book that struck, struck to me, because I guess in my whole childhood, it was a lot of the, the conversation was always, you know, Like, this is what the Bible says, which is true, but, um, you know, when someone doesn't believe in the Bible, that's, that's a tough spot to start an argument.

KYLE: Yeah.

GARY: And I think that's so much of, um, the pastor and I'm forgetting his name now. I think his name was Ken, the pastor that was kind of influential on her coming to have a relationship with the Lord. It was just, he, he, he asked a lot of questions. And I think that, you know, when you have somebody who's an intellect and like, I think even a lot of people like to put themselves in that camp, especially in the.

In the, in the age that we're in, right, like people like to think that they're spiritual and they like to think that they're, you know, a brilliant mind that's questioning everything. Well, then just ask those people the questions and get them thinking, right? And I think Westhoff does a good job of that.

KYLE: Well, you don't really know how to approach someone's belief system if you don't first know what they believe and how they got to believe it. [00:36:00]

GARY: Yeah,

KYLE: it's, it's, it's interesting that, um, The Gospel of John, he writes often, John writes often, I'm writing these things so that you would believe that Jesus is the Christ.

Christ being Messiah that was promised for thousands of years, like he's trying to prove and convince that this is true. Like that's his whole intention of the thing so that you would believe, not that you would doubt, but that you would believe. Um, and to, then to read the book. Bible that way as especially that book that way is like, Hey, this is, he's trying to like, you know, give the evidences and point to all the different things.

And, um, I just also wanted to like give an encouragement to anybody listening, especially with Easter, just to be like, if you're not a believer and you don't know Christ, like he. Like he wants you to come to him and he, um, has given lots of evidence for it. But me saying you should isn't going to make you believe.

You, belief is something that you know, you believe in the evidences yourself. [00:37:00] Um, And, uh, one of the ways that it really sank in for me is when Matt Keene encouraged me to read the Gospel of John, you know, read one chapter a day, um, three to five times, don't read ahead, and then read chapter two, day two, um, so all 22 chapters, and then do it again and again, and just to, like, let these things, the things of, let the scriptures sink in, so you can, you know, actually Believe it for yourself that he is the Christ and that he does if we, uh, um, believe in him and repent and follow him, that we will have eternal life, which is the best news.

GARY: 2 Peter 3 verse 9 states that God is patient and does not want anyone to perish, but rather desires that everyone comes to repentance. That's a verse that is probably not preached on that much in certain circles,

KYLE: but

GARY: it's pretty important. And the other thing back to Westhoff, he talks about his doubts.

And I think that we grew up in a culture where. Doubting was sin or you [00:38:00] couldn't, you had.

KYLE: No, no, no, no. I grew up where it was a mark of the mark of being saved. If you don't doubt you're not saved. That was explicitly taught, which is so ass backwards. I mean, we all doubt to a certain degree. I mean, yeah,

GARY: we do.

I think that, I don't know.

KYLE: No, no, no. I know for sure. That's what I was taught. Okay. I don't know what you were taught. You can speak for yourself, but I was like, it was like, yeah, the more, the more you doubted and weren't, you weren't sure that was like, you know,

GARY: Yeah, but weren't, weren't you, didn't you always have the feeling like you could, like if you all of a sudden started professing faith that people would all question you and question whether you even were and like, how could you even be so sure?

KYLE: Yeah. That's promoting doubt. Like if, because if I was like really sure that I would say that, like, you, you'd be like,

GARY: sure. We're not.

KYLE: Yeah.

And then, and then John's like, I'm writing these things so that you would [00:39:00] believe not that you would doubt.

GARY: Yeah. Yeah, I guess, I, I, I feel like there's just a lot of people that feel like they have to have like some surety in themselves. And I think that your only surety is going to come from the promises of the Lord and that, and that you can trust

KYLE: and

GARY: everybody would agree with that.

So if you go simply to the word,

KYLE: put your finger on it and

GARY: just read it for yourself. Right. And it's fascinating. Even if you look at, uh, I always think of the Psalms, right? Cause a good chunk, I think a third of the Psalms are just David just lamenting, right? Or whatever. I

KYLE: think all this too much focus is put on like, I'm like doubting if you're saved or not versus like, it's kind of a weird thing to doubt because it's that's

GARY: based on what Jesus did.

So you don't need to question that. Exactly. Are you actually questioning? Are you questioning your own ability to believe?

KYLE: Or are you questioning that Jesus actually wants you? Cause that's pretty clear in the Bible. Are you questioning that you don't actually want to be saved or you don't actually want Jesus?

Cause that, that makes more sense. Like if I. And

GARY: I think that's what it is. I think that's where a lot of that would stem from.

KYLE: No, I would hear [00:40:00] way more that I'm not sure if God actually wants me or not. That's what people, I think, at least how I grew up, that's what people struggle with more than anything.

But my experience has been personally,

GARY: is that because they wouldn't read this verse then? That I just read from

KYLE: second

GARY: Peter.

KYLE: Yeah. And I think it was also kind of God was portrayed as someone that with election and everything else like that, like you weren't know, you weren't sure if you were elect or not.

So like, does God actually want me? Is the gospel actually for me? And so they, you're always like. I went to church for years thinking I want to be saved, but I guess God doesn't want to save me yet. But it's, of course, the opposite. God wants us. Like you were saying earlier, that, that verse from Peter about how he doesn't seek anyone to perish.

Jesus, right before he went to the cross, wept over Jerusalem as a, um, a hen gathers her chicks because they would not want. He had sadness in his heart because they didn't want him. Like, he wouldn't, he didn't anger or resentment, he was just like, his heart broke for the fact that they were leaving him.

On the cross, he said, forgive them for they don't know what they do. [00:41:00] Like, the rich young ruler, he said, give up everything, and he couldn't do it. He was sad for him. He was sad for him, and he loved him with an agape love, which is the deepest form of love in the Hebrew. In that, in that piece there, um, like it's, the evidences are over and over and over that he wants us.

The issue is, do we want him? We

GARY: often don't, we don't want to give up our, whatever we, whatever we think is making us happy.

KYLE: Our sin or something like that,

GARY: especially

KYLE: secret sin. Like I doubted for sure the most, obviously when I was living in secret sin and sexual sin and stuff like that, because you know, you're a fraud.

GARY: You know, you're a fraud,

KYLE: but

GARY: if you confess your sins, he is faithful and just to forgive.

KYLE: I

GARY: think we should end on that car. Yeah?

KYLE: Short

GARY: what?

KYLE: 30 minutes?

GARY: Well, I could talk a lot more about a lot of other stuff that doesn't matter. Like tractors and all the great deals at the auction that you should be betting on now.

But it doesn't

KYLE: matter. You didn't answer my question about Good Friday. Like, what does it mean to you? Do you remember when it became important? Like, personally.

GARY: Well, [00:42:00] um, I remember, and it was heretical. To watch it, even at the time, because I grew up that any, um, character of Jesus was extremely sinful, was breaking the third commandment.

KYLE: Big picture.

GARY: Yeah, picture of Jesus, but I watched the Passion of the Christ in the, whatever year it came out. Would have been early 2000s or 7, 8, somewhere in there, I can't remember. Um, but that had a really big impact on me. Um, I think that. Yeah, I had probably recently become a Christian then, and still very screwed up and very broken, and I just, um, yeah, I guess I always, I just never believed that I could be saved, and I never believed that.

I just never, and even now, it's very hard to grasp forgiveness. If I think of how impatient and, like, the gospel is very hard to understand from a human perspective for me at times. Because I think of how impatient I am and how little mercy I have at times for my kids. And, and just in my children alone, that's just one [00:43:00] example, right?

Of course, there's a thousand other people that I interact with, but I just think, man, like, for God to forgive me for how I've lived, right? I mean, I guess that's, and if, and if I really meditate on it, it's, it's, it's pretty heavy. It's pretty beautiful and incredible. And, um, I think the idea there again of like God throwing our, our sins into the sea of forgetfulness is just wild.

Right. Um, and I think if we really understand the gospel, it really will make a difference in our life. And so that's really the question that I think I wrestle with. And I think everybody probably.

Um, but on

KYLE: the flip side, like you say, like, oh, I'm so impatient with my kids and all these other things like Christians, Christians, we all have a little bit of We'll always keep on sinning until the day they die. The difference is, [00:44:00] is that we don't, um, like justify it anymore. We confess it, right? Like it's daily confession.

It's not like not sick every six months, you know? But I think when you, as soon as you confess your sin and bring it into the light, it loses its power over you. The hard thing is, is. Every time, bring it in the light again. Like, I remember, especially with my, like, porn addiction over the years, it would've because I felt so much shame about it because I'm supposed to be this Christian guy, and everything else like that, I, I couldn't bring myself to tell anybody, but then it always got worse.

But once I, I switched that, and if I did fall in love You're

GARY: done if it's a secret. Yeah, but

KYLE: once you confess it, all of a sudden it like loses power and you lose the condemnation goes away, the shame goes away, like, um, and it's, but we, that's what we don't trust, right? We don't trust that that's actually true, right?

That when the Bible says, confess your sins, like in obedience, right? Like the man, um, that, uh, Jesus healed his hand on Sunday, by the [00:45:00] way, um, he asked him to stretch it out, right? It was a moment of faith, like, to stretch it out. He's like, I can't, I can't, like, it's, it's, it's lame. Um, and, but in faith he, did with whatever he could and, and, and, and it's like same with like Hebrews 12.

I think it talks about all the different ways that it was by faith that God justified, justifies us. And it was like the faith of Moses, the faith of Abraham, the faith of, um, Rahab, um, that, you know, made God. Um, that God seen. Um, not that that was a merit, but that was the, that's what he wants. Does he, do we actually trust what he says as facts and true?

And the proof of it is when we do it, obey it.

GARY: Yeah, easier said than done.

KYLE: Why, why, uh, if someone would ask you why do you love Jesus, what would you say? [00:46:00]

GARY: Um, Yeah, cause he saved me, really. I mean, ultimately, and I guess salvation, what does that mean to me? And it means just obviously eternal, but even in this life, right?

I think of like, like, it's fascinating for me if I look back and it's embarrassing, but like periodically I'll glimpses from the past of my life of the gross and awful things I've done. And I mean, my life's maybe more extreme than others. Um, so in that sense, I can see that it'd be harder for other people sometimes to see the difference, right?

Like, you know, for you and

KYLE: me. 20 years? Sorry? Like to see the difference?

GARY: Well, for me, it's easy, because it's like, the things that I've done have been so awful, right? And like, even before I became a Christian, the way I lived was, like, some people are not Christians. But they do a lot of good things and they do make a lot of the right decisions.

Maybe not even for the right reasons, but they're just doing a lot of the right things. So that shift, I think, is harder. Whereas for me, it's like, of all the things I did and the way I lived and the drugs and the [00:47:00] drinking and the, just all the abomination, I'm like, My youth and all the horrible decisions I made.

It's much more stark for me where like, Hey, God rescued me from that. And like, I didn't do that on my own. It's not like I pulled myself up by my bootstraps and like, just started like, and even like on the material side of like the blessings I have, like, like there's people way smarter than me that.

Haven't had, you know what I mean? Like I don't ever put myself in that camp of being like, well, I self -made or any of these terms, right? Like I don't view myself that way. So,

KYLE: but I think if I, me as your friend, I've known you for a bunch of years and not since like the early days, I guess it's new of you, but in the, in the last three years, and I'm not trying to blow smoke up your ass, but I've seen you intentionally try to change and have changed in different areas.

Like we did freedom session the first year together, and then you're all overly open with each other. And

GARY: there

KYLE: is like. I think there's still intentionality. It's not about perfection. It's about like saying like, Hey, I have stuff to work on and I'm going to put [00:48:00] myself in a position to work on it.

GARY: Yeah.

And I'm scared to even say the things now that I'm working on. Cause it's just like,

KYLE: Oh, the accountability,

GARY: you know what I mean? But like, You think of the areas now where it's like language and stuff like that, where it's just, I really fall short. It's really not okay. It's like, okay, how do you, how do you actually make the active step of, of growing in an area?

Right. And like Ken would say in Freedom Sessions, the best way is to, to just stand up and say what you're not going to do anymore or what you're going to do.

KYLE: It's terrifying, but yes.

GARY: Make yourself accountable, right?

KYLE: At least to a few guys.

GARY: Yeah. Do a few people. You know, like

KYLE: don't have to be on a podcast.

Like maybe we do.

GARY: No, ideally not.

KYLE: Yeah, probably better not,

GARY: but... Happy to, to hand the reins over anytime.

KYLE: Yeah, yeah.

GARY: What's going on in Iran? That

KYLE: is a, that is a hard shift. Do you think they're looking for mechanics in Iran?

GARY: Oh, you can give your mechanic plug. Who's looking for a mechanic?

KYLE: There's a good company that's, that's...

Looking for a good family company, heavy duty mechanics. I think regular mechanics would work there as well. But they were more looking for value people, right? Like that's, that's the value I offer as a, on the [00:49:00] recruiting side. I'm not traditional on the recruiting side. It's more like companies that have strong value sets, um, you know, care for their employees, want to do the right thing or honest, like good, well run companies, they want those kinds of employees as well.

And so if you're a mechanic now and you're just looking for a change and something fresh, uh, there's a company I'm working with that, um, is looking for that. So. Reach out for that. Um, but I don't know what's getting happening in Iran.

GARY: Do you follow it at all?

KYLE: I do, yeah.

GARY: Okay, because you do drive an electric vehicle, so you would not be uh, affected

KYLE: by the

GARY: oil

KYLE: prices.

GARY: The diesel price and gas price.

KYLE: That feels good, yeah. Yeah,

GARY: okay.

KYLE: I don't think it's good what's happening. I don't think it's, yeah, I don't think it's gonna, I don't think it's helpful to the U .S. at all. I'm still so frustrated and confused by the fact that this was such a huge talking point in the election campaign for Donald Trump getting in with all of his people beside him as well.

Like Tulsi Gabbard, for example.

GARY: Are people challenging him on it now? Cause I don't hear anybody on that side saying publicly.

KYLE: Very few. [00:50:00]

GARY: Yeah, I don't,

KYLE: I don't. Like Joe Kent is the first guy, Um, that stepped down on his cabinet. There's only one step, one person that has now officially stepped down. Yeah.

GARY: Okay, I haven't even heard that.

KYLE: Yeah. And, um, and, uh, there's like, there's a few like, um, podcasters that like had, he did a big podcast tour Trump did before he got elected. Um, and, and one of the big things, especially when I'm young. Um, Republican men or conservative men was like, we don't want wars, like we have enough problems here and that was like, that was one of the reasons I was actually excited that he was going to get in and be like, Hey, we need to like,

GARY: clean up, clean up

KYLE: our

GARY: country,

KYLE: work on the infrastructure, work on education, work on the cost of living, like just the basic things that government should be focused

GARY: on.

Let's go bomb this shit out of another country across the world somewhere.

KYLE: Yeah, for, and not even for their benefit, for the benefit of the Israelis. Um, And Israel. Is

GARY: that a fact?

KYLE: I believe it is.

GARY: Okay. I

KYLE: mean, it's obviously debatable, but, uh, yeah,

GARY: and,

KYLE: uh, yeah, so I mean, [00:51:00] and, and war is terrible.

GARY: Yeah,

KYLE: it reminds me of, um, Trey, um, telling me about a story.

He ran into a JTF2 guy, um, which is a special forces of Canadian special forces. Um, that a new, a guy that he knew that he went and was in combat with. And, uh, he asked him, he goes, um, uh, was it justified what we did? Killing the people we did. Yeah, of course, of course, of course it was. Like, you know, we were righteous in our killings.

You know, we were doing it for our country. And then he's like, well, why do you still have a hard time falling asleep? Why does it still feel gross? Um, and he's like, I don't know. You tell me, Trey. And he's like, because we were made in the image of God.

GARY: Yeah, we shouldn't be taking somebody else's life. No.

Definitely not easily.

KYLE: That's not how initially God created it, that we would be killing each other, right? It's the opposite of how God made it. Now, is it a, you know, a fact of what we're dealing with? Yeah, like Cain killed Abel. Um, it, it happened from the very start. But it's not how... It was designed, I think, at war and killing and if it's the [00:52:00] babies here or if it's the old people here in Canada that like with Maid, um, heard recently of a doctor, an old lady going into the hospital and before they asked her what was wrong, they asked her if they wanted, she wanted Maid.

GARY: My son brought it up with somebody in the pool on the holiday. Ha ha ha ha ha. Amazing, I love it. Oh, it's so fascinating. It's so interesting. So pure, when like, I love it. Like, it's so, he's so pragmatic about it, right?

KYLE: Yeah.

GARY: Like somebody was saying how doctors are just there to help. No, no, no, no. Some doctors, have you not heard of Maid?

They're killing people. In Canada.

KYLE: I hope,

GARY: man. I'm like, Noah, this is heavy, man. Let's go back to throwing the football. I hope

KYLE: the Evies were, uh, listening

GARY: in. Oh, no, it's just, I think it's, No, he's totally right. And it's, I guess, yeah, it's just, it's, it's bizarre, right? It's so bizarre.

KYLE: I mean,

GARY: in

KYLE: a way we shouldn't be surprised, right?

We should be more surprised when we see good.

GARY: It's going really well.

KYLE: Yeah, like this world is dying.

GARY: I do think. Like [00:53:00] you have to balance all these things. And actually that was one of the things that really struck me in the last few weeks is people spend way too much time knowing what's going on. Like it's a big problem with our society, right?

It's a big problem with even us as humans that we have too much information coming in now

KYLE: and

GARY: we think we're better for it. But I don't think we are. I honestly think that we are worse off for it. I think that if you're

KYLE: falling in a lock box for a couple of weekends in a row and see how much better you do,

GARY: how much better you feel personally, right?

Your own, you know, and I think even in our world, like we're The people that we're associated with, I said to my Marie the other day too, like you think of all the families and people that we're connected with, they're just amazing families. And we're so blessed with the amount of great people we have in our community.

And we've seen it when we've had a flood on our farm. And you know, you also can't

KYLE: have impact on the things that are happening on the news, but you can't have an impact on your neighbors and your family.

GARY: So I guess we don't need to have an opinion on whether, you know, we should be bombing Iran. I guess I just feel like it practically has such huge implications for the cost of things.

And it's fascinating. I don't agree with that. I would, I am a betting man, unfortunately, trying not to be. [00:54:00]

KYLE: A what man?

GARY: A betting man.

KYLE: Okay.

GARY: But I said, like, if I was going to put a bet on it, I would bet that we're going to get interest rate cuts, not hikes. But now all the banks, like I just read a big article from our bank that we finance with and they're like, Oh, there's going to be multiple rate hikes coming here and in the back half of 2026 and lock in the rate now.

Um, you know, the futures are saying like the bond market is saying that rate hikes are coming. Well, I don't think our economy in any way, shape or form can handle because they're saying thinking that the high oil price is going to cause a lot of inflation, right? Which it will short term, but not long term, long term, it'll cause more carnage.

KYLE: Well, you have that built on top of all the other carnage that was already happening. Right? It was already in a bad spot with all the money that was printed and everything else in the economy. Like, I don't know how much of the current economy is actually real versus just... Just

GARY: built on debt.

KYLE: Paper mon...

paper slips that one day is going to crash so freaking hard.

GARY: It's interesting to me, like even our local real estate, I only, I only really follow our local real estate market at like a deep level and like many, many places are [00:55:00] getting listed every week that have been bought and sold in the last 24 months.

And they are all getting listed for the same or less, or, you know, first people always try to start listing a little over what they bought it for. And then very quickly they take the realtors advice and he says, listen, like that price you paid, I'm sorry. It's not worth quite that. The adjustment down is a difficult journey for, for most of us.

Right. Anyways,
