GARY: Like, what are you trying? Like, just do the right thing. Like just. Be, be, you know what I mean? Like, and I don't know if you find that, like, a bit, like how do you feel about people with the fish on the, like do you feel like it's an advertisement or is it just, I feel like the minute you have, like, what would Jesus do in the back of your car?

Like, man, you gotta be a good driver. Like I'm not a good enough driver to have that on my car.

JOSEPH: Who's running the federal NDP party now?

So they voted in a new, um, a new person and, um, I'll just find the guy that has all the clips. Uh, Alex Holton was spent the whole weekend there and he posted clip after unhinged clip of what's happening at this. Um, and I can just scroll back, give some

GARY: I don't know, but So he's

JOSEPH: a, he's a

GARY: conservative or a, a basically a freelance, um,

JOSEPH: journalist.

GARY: Yeah. Yeah.

I'm sorry. Just real quick point of personal privilege. I understand there's very little time and, uh, for, for delegates to speak, but early on the mic, I, it's hard as a racialized and transgender delegate to sometimes use this card and, and speak up, speak to somebody in front of me in line and ask, Hey, this pertains to multiple intersecting parts of my lived experience.

I'd like to speak. I was rejected, um, when I talked and it, it's frustrating when. These are my rights being directly under attack right now in Alberta, and that a, a cisgender woman had spoken, uh, over me, and I understand her rights are important too. This pertains to her too, but I, I don't know. I, I, I hope that in the future, the, the, the federal MDP will also have a broader interpretation of the, the [00:08:00] equity cards for speakers.

Maybe even a little bit more conservative back then, and that everything has just shifted like one over True. And that there actually isn't, you know, a conservative party anymore because like there's a few conservatives in the conservative party.

KYLE: But like, what they are standing for today is just the liberals in the two thousands.

And now the NDP, which used to be the liberals, um, are doing such, I mean, it just makes no sense. Like they, they all get cards waiting in line to the speaker. Right. And if you, I guess there's, there's a ranking system.

JOSEPH: Okay.

KYLE: So if you're. Yeah. Basically the lowest rank you can get is, um, white, Protestant male.

Like you are last in line. You have no points. Okay. That goes up from there. White, protestant, male, bottom.

GARY: Yeah. I'd let Marie listen to one clip. That's all she can handle. She can't handle stuff like that.

JOSEPH: Right.

GARY: Um, but what really [00:10:00] stood out to her was just the, I like, and there's hundreds of clips.

JOSEPH: Yeah.

GARY: And it's all the same.

JOSEPH: Who is, who is the haircut? Who is that?

GARY: That is a transgendered lady who's actually, she is a total savage. Okay. She's, I think, a lawyer in Vancouver.

JOSEPH: Okay.

GARY: And she, like, there's, uh, Amy Ham is a lady that writes for the national post periodically. Okay. Um, she got fired for basically saying that, you know, males have penises and, and women don't.

KYLE: Right. Okay.

GARY: And there's been lots of people that have been fired for saying that lately. And at some point we'll be canceled for saying that. Um, now we're

KYLE: gonna talk to Bill C, bill C nine

GARY: in a second. Yeah. Well, that's

GARY: It's all connected. Um, but there's pushback now, which is encouraging. Mm-hmm. And actually it's fascinating how this point, where do you see pushback this point?

Um, the pushback is on this, the transgendered staff.

KYLE: Mm-hmm.

GARY: I think that the whole, the, the lesbians and gays, now I don't wanna speak for them 'cause I'm not in the camp, but the people that I hear, and even just publicly, you can just read about it, there's lots of gay people that are relatively conservative.

KYLE: Lot. [00:11:00] A lots. I mean, I, and

GARY: now when somebody hears conservative that's listening to this, they're linking, Hey, they're not aligned with what I think. No, but like Right. They're fiscally conservative. They don't believe that children should be able to cut off body parts. 'cause that's just stupid. Yeah. Anybody that does that,

JOSEPH: yeah.

GARY: Needs to get their head checked. Yeah. So this is where I think, you know. Where I'm speaking a little stronger. I think that's Now you're in a really, you don't make permanent decisions based on how a child feels. Right. That's just foolishness.

KYLE: I'm seeing a guy interview.

GARY: Children are looking for adults to guide them and keep them in boundaries.

Like that's what children are looking for. Right. So

KYLE: I've seen a guy interview people on the streets of uk, in the UK I think, and he was asking, um, people if, uh, kids should be able to allow, allowed to tattoo themselves at 10 years old.

GARY: Yeah.

KYLE: Um, like their own free will. And he's like, they're like, of course not.

So like that. And then they get asked the question like, can they change their sex? And, and all of a sudden people are like, woo.

JOSEPH: Yeah.

JOSEPH: Yeah. Yeah. There is, yeah. There's, this is an unfolding thing happening right in our, in the west.

Like I think when you, if I, I would love to interview some of these people and get to know how, how they got to that view. Sure. Of where, wherever they are, because it, like, it, it's an education thing, right? You've, you've bought, you've got taught to get to that

KYLE: It's not by themselves in a vacuum.

GARY: No, I, I would agree with you to some degree, but I believe.

And I, there again, I'd be curious to ask the questions in a, in a private manner to these people. Yeah. But I think a lot of these people are just really broken.

JOSEPH: Really? That's what I thought about her, was asking the question there. Um, well, of course they're really broken in the, in the video. I thought, I immediately thought

GARY: this lady had a, this horrific life.

Yeah. She's totally, totally. And people are grasping

JOSEPH: Yeah.

GARY: At something to set them apart, make them special. I mean, everybody is, yeah. Even those of us that grow up in relatively healthy, we're all looking for meaning. And I think it's fascinating when you, you live in a vacuum and you're not in a community.

I think that we like. Yeah. You didn't grow up in the, I think the best place to I meet it, but in the Dutch community you are so well, you are so well. Buddy and I were talking about this the other day, this guy, this non-Christian like guy that's not a Christian, but he just said, [00:13:00] we don't realize the, he's Dutch as well.

And he's like, we just don't, we just take for granted the whole connections and all the

JOSEPH: mm-hmm.

GARY: The support you have and the balance and the, the guiding just in the cultural influences that we have in our mm-hmm. Just in general. Right.

KYLE: But the identity issues still show up just as much. Our culture, but it's instead of finding your identity wanna be special in there, it's like, I need a big business or I need to have a big house, or I need to have like all the other stuff.

Like it's

GARY: a lot of those things we would obviously praise and think they're great things rather than,

KYLE: yeah, that's right. Almost more deceitful. Like,

JOSEPH: I do appreciate you guys attempting to steal man these arguments a little bit more and encouraging to hear that you would have people on this show with good intentions.

I would assume genuine curiosity to see just how people have arrived, where they've arrived, and to acknowledge. Often it's based out of a place of, you know, they want to be feel happy or they wanna, things that we would agree with. It's just misguided or driven by ideologies. But do you think driven by ideologies is the biggest [00:14:00] thing?

That's a great question. Um.

KYLE: Define that

JOSEPH: for, yeah, I consider the word equity. I would say it would be strongly encouraged that we should all boast for equity. Like people should have equality, but, but then at the same time, not at, look what they're doing here, not at the cost.

GARY: Look what they're doing here.

JOSEPH: Right?

GARY: Look what they were doing there in the video. They've completely, that's what the whole point, what I was gonna make, what Marie said, there's no equity left,

JOSEPH: right.

GARY: They've literally put certain, they've pushing down other people because other people need to be brought up to be quote unquote equal.

Like everybody's selfish. Everybody's so angry. Focused Equity. Equity

JOSEPH: would be acknowledging equal opportunity, right? So if there is overrepresentation of a certain demographic, then you would have, maybe a minority group needs to have some sort of voice. Maybe their voice hasn't been heard. That would be still manning the idea behind equity.

I mean, we're not talking about competency or proper representation because there's more, you know, cis

GARY: Well, that's what I'm, that's what

JOSEPH: I was gonna say to next people who, so that should be represented, but that still isn't negate the. [00:15:00] Conversation around equity. I don't think it's just so, yeah. What happens?

Well then, uh, good intentions become muddled with ideologies, which then become improper and misguided policies and it just becomes a mess. Lemme ask you

KYLE: this, I think it goes back, go, goes back to the facts of, of why we have value in the first place, which is that we're made in the image of God.

JOSEPH: Yeah.

KYLE: So we're all of equal value, and that's based on his historical facts and actual truth.

But if you don't have a basis for your morality

JOSEPH: Mm.

KYLE: Right. Then the government or the majority of people gets to decide what morality is.

JOSEPH: Yeah.

KYLE: Right? And that's what you get Bill C nine or whatever else like that. Like Sure. Like it's still, you still have a a morality code to go off of, which has to be based on something more than just our crazy brains.

JOSEPH: An objective

KYLE: Yeah.

JOSEPH: Guiding post.

KYLE: That's right.

JOSEPH: Yeah.

KYLE: And, and otherwise you, there's no foundation.

JOSEPH: Right,

KYLE: right. Like you need a foundation to work off of.

JOSEPH: Yeah. Yeah. This was the siren cries of like who were calling out postmodernity in [00:16:00] the philosophy region that we're saying like, we become ultimately two subjective.

KYLE: Can you say that whole thing again?

JOSEPH: was the, in English, in layman's terms. So you,

KYLE: English,

JOSEPH: you had the enlightenment, which was like based on modernity, right. We believe it. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. What years? What's enlightenment? So we're talking about modern, the turn of the century. We have these, um, these amazing, uh, advancements in physics and like we're talking electricity.

We're, we're talking. The whole world's changing based on principles of physics and laws. And this is the era of modernity in France around them. I think it was happening. And I mean you, maybe some would argue it could happen simultaneously, but definitely in the seventies, eighties, nineties, there's this shift towards what they call post-modernity, which was questioning reality, questioning what is objectivity?

So it would ask questions of like, how do we even experience reality? What is sight? What is taste? What is smell? All those things are essentially subjective. They can't be proven to be objective. So then it came down to this precipice of what is truth? And that [00:17:00] was the, you know, the tenor of the argument was that truth is subjective.

This was on the onset of understanding about other cultures. We were all faced with this wrestle of like, well, if one culture viewed this is true, another culture viewed this is true, then they can't both be right. They can't both be right or, or they, they could be both. Right? They, and we'll call it a new era, we'll call it post

KYLE: I asked judge.

PT is like an era of modernity is basically the time when the world shifted from old, tradition based thinking to a more science reason and progress driven mindset.

GARY: So what's fascinating about that is that the most change that ever happened in the world was in that period. Yes. Everybody would agree on that a hundred

percent.

GARY: Um, and I guess the question is, are we, have we lost that now? Are we losing that?

JOSEPH: Yeah. Well, you, you, you could make a, you could make a pretty solid argument that those who are still in charge are adamantly capitalists, modernists. Like they're using rules of physics to change society. AI isn't [00:18:00] magic. It's still based on principles and laws,

KYLE: but they aren't when it comes to like gender,

JOSEPH: well, we have this clashing of,

KYLE: or religion.

JOSEPH: Yeah.

KYLE: Like there, there's just not, like, there's objectively no one's, like very few people are, are saying that Jesus wasn't a real guy. Right. Like

GARY: yeah.

KYLE: There's debate is if he's God or not.

GARY: Yeah.

KYLE: But you, you need to foundation their work off. Right. Of like, that's why apologetics are so important because otherwise you can't get anywhere.

Like you have to have a foundation.

GARY: Yeah. I guess my question is back to the, the people that are at this convention. You know, you would ask them, Hey, like, I wonder what would happen, or even forget the people at the convention, let's just say more moderate NDP supporters, which you would know, and I would know people that are voting for these parties.

KYLE: You know, NDP supporters?

GARY: Yes. Very.

JOSEPH: She would. I she would definitely love to if she had time. Okay. Yeah,

GARY: Um, I know lots of people in that camp, um, and I guess. I've always, I think that it comes back to my, my feeling of, um, you know, can you vote for, like, a lot of people would say, Hey, you couldn't vote for the NDB and be a Christian.

GARY: You couldn't like, 'cause you would just say, Hey, this is what they stand for. Mm-hmm. How can you know, and I guess the, you know, where do people land on that now? Other people would land in the camp and say, Hey, I can find you a thousand reasons why conservative mps are

JOSEPH: Sure.

GARY: Sinning and doing horrible mps.

KYLE: yeah. Had someone tell me that you can't vote for [00:20:00] conservatives if you're Christian.

JOSEPH: You've had that.

KYLE: Yeah.

JOSEPH: Yeah.

GARY: Okay. Yeah. Yeah. So I guess

KYLE: like really, really strongly because of what they've,

GARY: some of the

KYLE: things stood for. Yeah. But this person would also believe that you can cut penises off and you're five years

GARY: old, so.

Right. Okay. So that's that I guess. Yeah. To me it's really about, um. It ultimately comes down to being grounded in the word for those of us that are Christians.

KYLE: Mm-hmm.

GARY: And not get, uh, too off kilted in the weeds of kind of all the, like, for instance, politics is obviously, you know, there's always gonna be leadership, but like

JOSEPH: Yeah.

GARY: You know, let's remember who's in charge. Yeah. Let's make sure the church is well run. Let's make sure we are in a great example of leadership and government and don't vilify them, don't vilify the group like these are based on That's,

JOSEPH: no, that's the exact trap. Exactly. So that's, that's what's happening.

GARY: That's what I did say last week. Great. So I think that's, I, I can't even remember everything I said. I felt, to be honest, I felt very uneasy about how. Everything I said and I was gonna call you. Only again, repeat it.

KYLE: I, well I said the chapters. I [00:21:00] thought it was like so tame. Well

GARY: it was boring. But, um,

JOSEPH: let me ask you, you met what I would call a personified ideology.

From my perspective, David Eby doesn't represent a person. I know he is. I want to believe he is. What was it like meeting? Well, I didn't

GARY: hardly talk to him at all.

JOSEPH: But you met him. You saw his flesh. He's real. Yeah. Yeah, he is. He's probably funny. I saw him

GARY: for days playing the pool with his kids. Just like every That's amazing.

That's amazing. Dad. Just playing with his kids, trying to be decent. Not every other dad while still running the province. Well, not every other dad.

JOSEPH: Yeah.

GARY: Um, and I guess I didn't say too much more 'cause I had a lot of pretty, uh, great chats. Me and Marie with his wife.

JOSEPH: Yeah.

GARY: And it's just not our place to share those conversations publicly in any way.

So I feel very, like, I feel when you're a politician.

JOSEPH: Yeah.

GARY: The last thing you need is people taking things you've said and sharing them on a, like you do choose that path. So respectful.

JOSEPH: You choose that path.

GARY: You do. And they were very understanding of it. Yeah. Even his um, I asked his a boy about it and he was very candid.

It was really cool how he was just like, oh, he grew up his whole life. Like he's,

GARY: I'm like, what's it having your dad, like your dad? You know it be your dad be. And [00:22:00] he was very well spoken. I young fellow. And I guess I just feel like, um, never, never is it appropriate to go after children for anything of their father's lifestyle choices or anything.

And I guess I've seen that in my own life and in there are Dutch circles where there's guys that are sure. And even me, like there's people that can't stand me. I don't ever want them talking to my kids about it. I don't ever want them coming after my family.

JOSEPH: Yeah.

GARY: Do you follow me? So yeah. I'm just from that perspective of someone that's actually lives a pretty public life.

Yeah. Don't ever cross the line and get my kids involved. So on the flip side of that,

JOSEPH: yeah.

GARY: I would view it even in this situation where, hey, this is. Family on a holiday. Like you just wanna be really respectful of that. Yeah. Good for you. And so that's kind of, that was the sta I just, I found it ironic that the NDP convention was three days after we recorded the federal NDP to be clear.

Yeah. Right. And it was just unhinged lunacy. Like, it was just like,

JOSEPH: yeah.

GARY: So I'm trying to, I'm grasping these things with these very great conversations with people from that party that are [00:23:00] obviously, you know, and then

KYLE: there's gotta be a difference too between the leadership and the actual members, because I'm,

GARY: yeah, there would be

KYLE: pretty stark.

GARY: I think there would, the leaders and members, and I guess I'll go a step farther. I have hundreds of people I know in the US that are Republicans

JOSEPH: Okay.

GARY: That are in this weird tension of having to support their president. Yet really, if you, if you pinned him down and they spoke anonymously, you'd say, Hey, this guy's not that great of a guy.

We don't really, this is not,

JOSEPH: yeah. The polls are showing that.

GARY: Well, yeah, I would just say even on a very. People that were really honest and can get Now in the States, there's so much more nationalized, it's even harder for them to do this.

JOSEPH: Sure.

GARY: Like they just, well,

JOSEPH: they only have two parties. Right. And they're

KYLE: based on, well, Trump also doesn't allow for much dissension on like, you have to agree with him on everything or your, your shit.

Like, um,

GARY: yeah,

KYLE: he's like a narciss

GARY: narcissistic pastor or something. Right. Sorry, was that too far? One said

JOSEPH: it. I,

GARY: no, but you know, people, I've, I've heard it said out of some pastor's own mouth to me, like, don't let the door hit you on the way out.

JOSEPH: There [00:24:00] is something concerning happening in the Trump administration, which seems filled with sickle fans.

People who just will please him no matter what. They will speak, which is a good thing to speak kindly of your people, you know, especially publicly, like of your party. But it almost seems like they fear, maybe not consciously, but that there's a fear of they were to

KYLE: deter. Yeah. But both is weird. But isn't it like any political leader, you don't agree with a hundred percent on.

JOSEPH: You shouldn't,

KYLE: like, like that's, that's a crazy idea. Like even your friends, like we all disagree on things.

JOSEPH: We've had multiple disagreements this past week. Yeah, he texted me this morning. It was good.

KYLE: So anyways, I, I didn't, I, I guess we have different definition of disagreements. Well, Kyle's family

JOSEPH: loves conflict.

KYLE: We disagree.

JOSEPH: It was a good, it was a sincere text

KYLE: anyways. Um, but I mean, it's, that's a crazy thought. So you can say, Hey, I like certain things about these policies Trump has and I like other policies I don't like, and the person himself I've never had a conversation with and [00:25:00] actually met and sat across one.

So for me to go make a complete judgment on his character is also kind of nuts in itself. I mean, you can see a lot about a person publicly and you are gonna make certain judgements just because that's normal to do. But

JOSEPH: yeah.

KYLE: It can't be so black and white. It doesn't work that way. Like it's, that's crazy.

JOSEPH: Yeah. This is an awesome consensus at this table to acknowledge that it's, it's about the character, about the person that the, we're not, you know, we're not trapped into a party ideology.

KYLE: No.

JOSEPH: And even voting for a party versus voting a person is an interesting discussion. But I put it back to you guys.

What do, why do you think this is happening? Like, there's so much dissension and tribal, I think 'cause people are, um,

KYLE: why, why is what happening?

JOSEPH: Well, why is, why are we being put into these categories and why are we bidding against each other and pushing one another and putting each other into groups?
