Kyle: [00:00:00] Welcome back to another episode of The Briefcase of the Barn with me and Gary. Uh, series of the Furious, A Curious show where we talk about business, life, Christianity, and more. Episode 41, election, special election results. Special talk about the results. It's Monday night. Uh, looks like the liberals April 28th.

Yeah, it looks like the liberals have, uh,

Gary: it is a little daunting 'cause things, this is kind of like the way the hockey games have been lately in the NHL, the playoff games like. Two goal, uh, leads obliterated in the last minute. I'm like, Hey, I just saw on Twitter somebody posted, maybe the advanced polling stations will win the person of the year award and there will be some type of, uh,

Kyle: it is close.

What is it right now? Nine seats?

Gary: Yeah. I haven't, I haven't looked in a bit. I was at family just hanging out, looking. Um, what's your gut feeling? Liberal's a minority. Yeah, that's, that was your guess too,

Kyle: wasn't it?

Gary: Oh, somebody I had all I, somebody asked me what I actually thought. They said I was like my typical weather being political [00:01:00] self on the podcast that we talked about it.

Um, I mean, yeah, there's lots of like interesting. Things that are stood out to me. Mainly that the, and I, I'm sure anybody that follow politics, I am a little worried that everything we say now could be totally wrong in hindsight. 'cause you just never know. We're just going with what we got now. We're just going with what we got.

That's fair. Um, I mean, really what stood out to me was the obliteration of the NDP, um, and. The thing that that brought about was that the conservative party had the most popular vote, I think that they've ever had. Ever. And then they still didn't even win a minority. Right? They, because they got a majority with 39% of the vote before Yeah.

2011. Uh, Stephen Harper, right? So, uh, yeah, the conservative party depends on vote splitting and, uh. There's almost a two-tier, uh, two, two party system here in Canada outside of the block. Really?

Kyle: Yeah.

Gary: Other than, yeah, 10 seats or so. And it was interesting that the NDP, it looks like they'll lose their official, uh, party status, which I mean, there [00:02:00] again, somebody at the party we're at there tonight said, all like I did liberal party is the NDP.

And, and to some degree that's true, and that's also problematic. For the liberal party. I think because a lot of people are, um, in a lot of ways, very fiscally responsible that are liberals, right? They're, they're business people. They're people that are like, Hey, you just can't keep spending like this. Yeah.

But in this case, it just didn't seem to matter. And that's what's fascinating. I, I, I guess that's what truly surprises me, that, you know, he came out, uh, Mark Carney came out with the liberals costed platform, and, and I. There again, I should have looked for the podcast, but I think it was like 60 billion a year or something in deficits.

And that's just, it's not sustainable. Not healthy. I think

Kyle: conservatives are gonna be 110 billion next year. I think it was, they were, theirs were like 180 or something. Okay.

Gary: Regardless, you cannot, it's no different than your personal budget. You cannot perpetually spend more than you make. You will have serious consequences down the road, and nobody in our society lives like that anymore.

We live in some, our governments

Kyle: the last 20 years certainly haven't operated that way.

Gary: No. And they have the most freedom to do that. To be fair. Like so a federal, that's what people don't even [00:03:00] understand, like the government creates money. So like they, they create the money supply, especially the US government.

But even the Canadian government, they have the ability to sell bonds and to keep running deficits. But there's some point. When the rest of the world doesn't buy your debt, your debt's considered crappy. Yeah. And just like in a mortgage situation where if you have crappy credit, you can't get a mortgage at a normal interest rate at some point the government has that.

Right. And that's determined by the bond market. And most people probably don't even know what the bond market is. It's way bigger than the stock market, and it matters a lot. And I think that there will come a day where Canadians will care and by that point it'll be too late.

Kyle: It'll be, yeah. And it will

Gary: be the children of the people that are voting.

In for the parties now that are running, that are running deep deficits. Right. So anyways, I think regardless of any other policy, even if, regardless of where you stood on social issues, I, I, I can't see it. People thinking that it's wise to perpetually spend more than you make. And, and that's why I struggle with having a, uh, a liberal party win now because it's more spending More spending more spending.

Yeah.

Kyle: I think it'll be [00:04:00] interesting this time because it looks like the block will be the. The party that props them up for Yeah. And they're

Gary: separatist party. Yeah. It's bizarre. Exactly. It's only in Canada. It's like, Hey, Canada first, but we're gonna join. Oh yeah. You should explain this. We do. People that thing.

Listen to that. There's, there's one lady from Texas for sure. There's, there's a

Kyle: party, uh, called the block. Uh, and they're just a party in Quebec only, but they're a federal party in one of our provinces. Yeah, yeah. In one of our provinces. But they're a federal party, and so they get all their say, um, just for their localized area.

And for that, for that reason, the Quebec has always taken a lot more money than all the other provinces.

Gary: And they run, they run a candidate, I would assume, in every riding in Quebec, and they get. Varying amounts of, of seats won. Um, I think this time it looked like they were at 23 I, I think they were more last time, but it's usually, I think somewhere between 20 and 40.

It was probably used to be a lot more in the nineties, I would assume. Yeah. So at one point, this is another bit of history for people in the US that don't care about Canada, but in, I think it was in 1994 when I was a kid. [00:05:00] They voted on whether they were going to separate and they barely won to stay. Now, most of us maybe wish they had left, um, because they are what we would be derogatory call a have not province.

They don't know if they're not using the resources well. They spend a lot and they get a lot of, uh, health transfers sent from the federal government. So they do get

Kyle: a lot of money. It'd be like they're a party in Texas joining the. Republicans and Democrats. Say that again. It'd be like a party in Texas forming and, and in a, in a, in the Americans two party system basically.

Say that, that kind of idea.

Gary: Yeah. They have basically their own, uh, and, and because of the way our federation is set up, and that's what I just find fascinating. I. That, you know, we have our government, now, our federal government that's formed, and the balance of power is going to a party. Yes. That sole goal is, uh, for, for one, for one province.

And we're gonna call this, uh, well, where I was going with this is that, uh, the liberal party in particular, uh, ran on. Fearmongering, uh, uh, of, you know, Trump, the idea of Trump, you know, like get behind us. Uh, Mark Carney is, you know, has, uh, financial [00:06:00] acumen, I guess, or is considered to because of his role as a central banker in, in the UK and Canada.

And now he's gonna team up with, uh, the separatist party to unify against Donald Trump. It's, it would be, yeah, it'd be funny if it weren't, doesn't make sense. Pathetic. But anyways. So what do you

Kyle: say to the people that are super discouraged today? Do are people that discouraged? I don't know. Do

Gary: they have hope in, uh, what a federal, uh, outcome of a federal election.

That's a sad day. You're in deep trouble, man

Kyle: They were, they seemed pretty excited. People get more excited about this election and they did, uh, about Easter Sunday. Yeah, yeah,

Gary: yeah. That's, we're humans, right? We, we uh, we get bent. I get bent. Uh, I care a lot. I like politics. Right. I think it's, I think it's, it's interesting.

Um, I mean, I think people in all. Personally, I feel like anybody that's a, a relatively well-rounded person, I have a lot of respect for people that run for political office. I think that the people that are,

Kyle: you have a lot of respect. Respect for Elizabeth May.

Gary: I mean, I think her intentions are, well, she's, she's, I was gonna say a bad word.

She's really crazy. She's a real [00:07:00] character. Christa Freeland. Krisa Freeland. She's got a lot of ticks and nods and stuff, but she's, uh. Um, I think people that are in that space, I would think as a general rule, you get dumped on. It's not like you do. Yeah. It wouldn't matter what political party. Like you're just dumped on.

Right. And you're under a microscope. You either have to be an attention seeking, you know what, I will not say the word 'cause I get in trouble when I say the word. But you have to be extremely attention seeking har harlet. Harlet. Yeah. Even be an attention seeking harlet or you gotta be. Thick skin and just try believe that you're doing the right thing.

Right. And like I ran for city council when I was a kid in Chilliwack like many years ago. And I thought of even like this last provincial election, I was asked to run for the conservative party provincially.

Kyle: Yeah.

Gary: And at that time, this is interesting. I dunno if I've shared this on here. I. Maybe I have many episodes ago.

But it was fascinating because when I was, uh, approached to run, at that time there was still the BC liberal party. They were still, it was gonna be neck and neck and the BC conservatives, well, I would've just been, probably everybody would've looked at [00:08:00] me like the PPC guy that ran this time where you're just taking boats from the BC liberal party.

And for those that don't know, the BC liberal party was a conservative leaning. It was a big, big tent coalition type party. And they. Basically shut down in this last election and the conservative party ended up winning their seats. And Heather Mos, who, who I, I, I would consider, uh, so you would've been a, I would've been an MLA and it would've been a disaster.

Like I would've, if I would've ran, it would've simply been for the experience and feeling like, Hey, yeah, yeah, this is an important thing. Somebody should run and. I mean, I have a lot of people in my life that are furious about people that are in power or politicians and decisions they make, but would never let their name stand.

And some of them are very wise people and well qualified and, and everybody says they don't have the time. Everybody says that, you know? But oh, it's the

Kyle: same reason most people have a big mouth except for when you say, Hey, come on the podcast, let's talk about it. And they're like, ah, no, no, I'm good. Just

Gary: big mouth in the living room.

Yeah. Yeah. Like Dawson Pro bro, say he doesn't listen to the podcast so we can make fun of Monday. He could be the show

Kyle: waters it down with vodka. He wants tonight anyway. Yeah, he was struggling with the election results, but he was quite down, so good thing he doesn't listen. I'd asked Keener, Matt Keenan, uh, I texted him today.

I said, from a Christian real view as he's a local pastor here, what, what could I say to that? That that's truth that will encourage the listeners. So he said The Lord has a reason for permitting this. Perhaps it's the only way the nation will come to its knees in prayer, which made me wonder. How many of the conservatives that are upset the night actually spent time praying?

Well, lots of conservatives aren't Christians, so Okay. It's the ones that we know that would be Christians. Yeah. Or, and he said it's not bad that Christians will have to learn to actually depend on God. Our faith is in his power. Far is our faith, is his power is far too small. Now it's time for hope. We have the hope of Christ and our nation will need to see [00:10:00] that hope in us more than ever.

Uh, and then he said, uh, from here on I'm gonna start fasting more. Seems to be at loss for the libs.

Gary: Yeah. I thought too, one of the things I'd written down in the show notes was just, um, and I think I've mentioned it before, but the, I think, and there again, I could, I should have fact checked this with, uh, on the internet, we're all facts are all facts.

All facts are on the internet. Wikipedia. Wikipedia, it's my favorite source. Um, I think that the, the federal. Uh, workforce has went up by about 40% since 2015. Right. For the federal government. The federal government. Yeah. Yeah. And I'm thinking like people just vote for their jobs.

Kyle: Yeah.

Gary: And anyone with any level of IQ would've known that, you know, a conservative government would've met a loss of head count, because eventually that's what has to happen.

That's how you save money. But six months money, six ago,

Kyle: six months ago though, when, six months ago, their liberals would've got a huge majority, sorry, the conservatives would've got a huge majority six [00:11:00] months ago.

Gary: Yeah, and it was interesting too. I think that, and this is what Marie and I talked a lot about it in the last week, as it seemed like the polls, you and Marie talk about this quite a bit.

Yeah, we do. Yeah. Interesting. He's more of a political junkie than you think. Okay. Um. I won't quote what she said because it's her space to say she skip, she won't skip forward. This only gentle and lowly. She'll skip forward. Yeah. Yeah. She cares a lot more about politics than you reading the whole gentle and lowly chapter to the, to everybody.

Um, at least she's honest. You would, you would give her credit just for being honest. Yes. I would. You appreciate people that are rude and upfront. Um, don't, don't worry about what people think. Just speak the truth. Um, that reminds me actually. Okay. Total aside, um, we had a sermon on Unity. From Ephesians chapter four or six, I can't remember, verses one to 10 on Sunday.

And it made me very convicted, and maybe this is not the podcast, share it in the middle of a, this political podcast. But I did feel convicted about how both of us, myself anyways, have talked about. 'cause I definitely have got, somebody mentioned to me the other day just how I was, they felt that was pretty [00:12:00] critical.

So I am a critical of what. Just other churches.

Kyle: Oh,

Gary: okay. And I genuinely do not want to be that. And so I apologize to those that feel that way. And I feel like it's, it's not a blessing to the kingdom. It's not helpful. It's, and it's definitely not the space to do it. And if I had a genuine concern for another church, I would go to those leaders or go to just anyways.

Would you? Yes. If you had a genuine concern. Well, yeah, I'm not gonna, I'm not, this is not the place. No, no, no, no. This is not the platform, is what I'm saying. I understand that. So that's what I'm apologizing for. Okay. It's like, and people, and that's back to being a politician. Like you're in the political sphere, what you say does matter and you, it will be used and held against you in court.

It just will and the court of public opinion if nothing else. So it was just, it was interesting. I dunno, I had it in

Kyle: my, uh, my memory there to, I did think about it as well actually on Sunday about, about the unity thing. It made me think also about, uh, something I learned in coaching was what you focus on grows.

Yep. And to focus more on truth and what's good than to focus on what's not good. Like to focus on like what you should be doing rather than what you shouldn't be [00:13:00] doing. Um, I think it's really important.

Gary: Yeah. And it's tough if even in this light where you have like a podcast, like nobody wants to hear positive, fun stuff.

Right. People, my kids go to YouTube to watch like plane crashes and natural disasters. Like they don't go there to watch, oh, the plane landed. Well again, they wanna see the plane go sideways. Yeah. Yeah. It's human nature. Yeah. Yeah. So, um, where I was going with that is, um, people vote for their jobs. Mm-hmm.

Uh, and I wrote, you know, whether or not it will hurt them in any other way long term. They're gonna vote for their, their paycheck. Uh, no different than a conservative dairy farmer voting for the political party that best aligns with supply management or best support supply management. Nice. I thought I would say that.

Kyle: Max on the show? No, I did have a lot of conservatives that, I don't know if they were dairy farmers or not. A lot of people, my post on Facebook, I got a lot of angry people on my [00:14:00] post on Facebook yet. Okay. Okay. And a lot of comments on the, on the video as well.

Gary: I did wa I looked at the comments on the YouTube video. Yeah. I haven't even watched the video yet, but it'll go to the comment section. 'cause you said there was, so what did people say on Facebook? What was the feedback? Uh, roughly?

Kyle: Um, uh, we'll keep talking for a bit while

Gary: I pull it up. Okay. I covered most of my notes already.

I did the other thing I thought, and, and, and this is where, and this is, I've said this for a long time, that we are becoming a completely, uh, polarized society, and I don't like it. So as much as, you know in the sense of, Hey, maybe I don't agree with the block or the NDP or any other party. Uh, or the greens.

Like I, I wouldn't necessarily be aligned with their platforms. I like the idea of, of different political parties. I think that it's healthy to have different viewpoints. Um,

Kyle: yeah, I wish

Gary: we

Kyle: didn't have our system of government and we did. We could have all kinds of tiny, tiny parties. No,

Gary: we don't want to go to, we don't want to go to proportional representation.

Do you actually agree with, agree with Proport? I think, I think it'll be better. I think it would be better. It would not be better. Did Jody trips should not teach you anything in social studies. 11. [00:15:00] I feel like we've had this conversation before too. Why do you think it would be better? You think

Kyle: that Because then people that actually like believed in their actual person would get in because like the conservatives now they're, they're not doing it.

Like, for me, not doing anything against abortion. Zero. Yeah. Zero. They're, they're spending. A crap ton of money still. Their, their plan, they're not fighting any other big social issues. They're not really cover cutting government much. Okay. You think

Gary: every party is just moving directly to the middle to try and grab as many votes as they can and they stand for that can, there certainly is no,

Kyle: there's some truth to that.

And so like, what are you actually voting for? You're just voting that the other guy isn't quite as bad. Like you don't actually,

Gary: interestingly enough, and I don't remember much from 2015 from what Pierre Trudeau's, Pierre. J Justin, Justin Shapers going back before I was born, um, Justin Trudeaus ran on.

That was one of his political problems. I know one of the many, which he did not keep one. Were the biggest one. Well, that's what's that He knew he would lose seats, of course, but I mean, that's how he got so much vote. How much So, so much Votes too. 'cause all the NDP people were pumped. Right? Okay. We're gonna get this guy in.

He's gonna give us the ability to. [00:16:00]

Kyle: Okay, here's some comments on that video. Uh, Kyle, I'll be watching the writings carefully to see if we lose any conservative seats to do the PPC voting. This election is too much on the line for Canada. Waste votes on fringe candidates, and this includes Mad Max.

Gary: Okay?

They're gonna hold you personally responsible for promoting this guy.

Kyle: Pumping. This right now is not the time. This selfish entity costs us the last four years of nothing but further de determinant to Canada and Canadians. He's a effing nobody. He holds no seats. Vote for Max if you wish to flush your ballot down the toilet.

Nope. He's a man of, of a vendetta. So I I, I left a comment responding to everyone, but

Gary: Well, your motto is good news, bad news, just getting the news. So you're willing to be dumped on if people are I just, I mean,

Kyle: if anybody, I I, I challenge those people that you guys actually listen to the podcast. I doubt a lot of them did.

They just seemed, came straight to the comment section. Yeah, came straight to the comment section. 'cause I was just like, I was just, any opportunity you have to. Have talk to a guy. I'll, I'll talk to you. I'm curious what you're about. Yeah. I wanna know what you're about. Actually, I had good feedback from a guy today.

He listened to the, my interview with [00:17:00] Max and Tucker's interview with Max, and he said, uh. With mine, he actually came away understanding who Max was more. Okay. And, and Tucker more just talked to him about that, grabbed some talking points and Yeah, whatever. And then actually get to know the person. And that's what I'm always curious about.

Like, it's like who's the person, like what actually drives you? What operates you like, like what do you care about? Uh, and why do you care about those things? And, and so I think I got that out of him a little bit. So,

Gary: yeah. The other thing I think, uh, the one thought that I've had, and I mean the political pundits were talking about it tonight too in the news, but, um, I.

You know, I think the main reason that Mark Carney got in was probably because of Donald Trump, because of, yeah. The, the fear of, you know, the idea of rallying together around, you know, somebody with, you know, financial acumen and just coming after, being able to negotiate. But the reality is it's just not gonna be that easy, and it's definitely not gonna be that easy joining up with a separatist party and now having to hold a balance of power.

Yeah. Um, so yeah. How long do we have power before we have another? They have, they have a lot more power

Kyle: in, in, [00:18:00] in the, in the negotiations, right. The US does.

Gary: Well, and there's just really, we don't like, we're, we're, we're 10% of the size we're, you know, we depend on the US in every way, like literally for our security.

And that's another thing I struggle with, with the political party that, that, that's like elbows up. But like, we don't, like, I don't even know what that means. I haven't Googled it. Like I literally just have seen the term and people making fun of it. But it's the idea of like, what are we doing? Like are military spending?

Someone from the US texted me that today. Elbows up and I'm like, whatcha talking about? Whatcha talking about? Yeah. What's that about? I dunno, it's with some lame thing, but I mean, you got a bunch of people that are just puppets and parrots with no idea really of how. Like weak our military is, and how little we've spent on, you know, even in places like nato, like we've just completely abdicated and been thankful.

And, and there again, I'm fine with that, but don't talk like, don't be a big mouth, just be humble and realize where your help comes from. Yes. And that we depend on the USA, right? Yeah. And I mean, even if it's Donald Trump or whoever Yeah. We're not gonna stiff arm the USA into [00:19:00] like, we're not gonna win in a trade war.

Like Yeah. You know what I mean? Yeah. And so I just think. Like I say, and I don't know what the negotiating tactic is, and I wouldn't want, I guess for me, I wouldn't want to be Mark Carney in, in that spot. I think like now you've done, you've done actually the easy part. Do you think you

Kyle: would get rid of that milk, um, quota system?

Who? Mark Carney? No, no,

Gary: no. They don't have a lot of, they don't have a lot of. Cool guts. Like they're not gonna make, they're not gonna make tough decisions. They, they, they're, you know, and I think even in that sense, pure poly, when he find, I mean, I don't know if he'll run next time again now. I think he was barely hanging onto his seat tonight.

Uh, maybe, or maybe not win it. Um, I mean, in a lot of ways, I think politically federally people will be obviously still very supportive of him. Um. Because he really, you know, he took the party, like there was, the conservative party went up in seats. The NDP went down and the liberal parties, I think when we watched last were pretty much the same.

The same. And there was five new writings added. So they, they, you know, they didn't add one seat, they're just,

Kyle: yeah.

Gary: It was [00:20:00] really just the decimation of the NDP. Yeah. Um, that helped them to kind of stay where they're at. Right. So, um, and, and that, there again, I could see that all changing. You know, I could see that in time, you know, in four years from now and there's another election or in,

Kyle: or in one year.

Gary: one year. But I mean, you know, Donald Trump may be gone or maybe that tariff thing will be over and, uh, you know. Our, the way that our governments work, a lot of the revenue comes from, uh, taxation and product and something like oil and gas, for example, like the lower the price of oil is, the less revenue they get.

And so part of the reason that some of the huge spending from 20, and I don't think a lot of people realize this, but 2021 and 22, a lot of those deficit deficits were, were, I mean, they were huge still, but they were not as bad simply because the oil prices were high, the oil prices were so high, you know, gas, I, it forget what it was.

So why are they

Kyle: against putting pipelines in there?

Gary: Uh, because they're supposed to be, uh, pro fans of green energy and it's utopia. Like, I mean, I've plugged the Looney Hour on before here, but they had a podcast recently, recently with a [00:21:00] guy named Dune Berg. Great podcasts, like just it's natural gas and oil are here to stay.

And obviously there are forms of energy, but any form of energy that cannot be constant and on demand won't work, won't work. And so even solar measure, the block is

Kyle: very against pipelines. And if they're gonna be the party, that's gonna be the swing.

Gary: Well, I mean, Mark Carney would appreciate that. 'cause then at least you'll have a scapegoat for saying he can't build more pipelines.

Right. And the reality is that even just the cost, if you look at what it costs now to build these things and the red tape. Yeah. Yeah. All of that needs to change. There needs to be, there needs to be full scale, um, you know, change at that level of red tape, cutting of red tape. And it's not gonna happen.

There probably need to a. No, I think even the conservative party, I don't, I don't, that's fair. I, I don't think, uh, it's really, really hard to fire people and let people go, even if it needs to happen. So

Kyle: needs to get a little bit worse yet before it can get better.

Gary: Yeah. Yeah. All, yeah. And ultimately it'll all sort itself out.[00:22:00]

I. And it doesn't matter that much. No. It's life on earth here. Right. It's gonna be really broken and really sinful and really horrible Things are gonna happen and we shouldn't expect it. Yeah. We shouldn't expect heaven on earth.

Kyle: Yeah. And trust

Gary: me, it wouldn't matter who's in power. It's not gonna be that great.

Yeah. I think that's really what I find troublesome in the sense of like for us, as you know Christians, when we are hanging our hat on a non-Christian leader of a political party. You know, and Pierre Poilievre has a good example, like literally pro-choice, like, yeah, fine with the boarding babies. Like if that's our savior, we're in deep, deep trouble.

Right? Deep trouble, deep trouble. So I, I, like I say, I, I mean obviously I'm, I'm disappointed with the results. I can't, I can't believe that the party like what we're voting for, but really, yeah,

Kyle: at dinner time, the night I was, uh, reading, um, the part where, uh, Jesus was crucified and he said. One of the last things he said was like, uh, Lord, don't condemn them for what they do or, or forgive them what they do forgive for.

They know not what they do. Yeah, yeah. And, and that was like, so the Romans at the time, they were super anti-Christian or anti anti-Jewish. They were savages and they were savages [00:23:00] and, and, uh, and they killed the perfect person. Right. Like they killed Jesus. And his response was, um, forgiveness. Like, he, he wanted to give them grace.

And, and that made me think, I was like, oh, interesting. It's like, I don't like the government that's in or that's probably gonna get in. Um, and, uh. Like, what's her disposition? And I, I like Matt's answer, like, what a, there's no better time to show. Our hope is not in some and be gracious.

Gary: Just always be gracious and always be kind, and always be loving, even if you're pissed.

And that's hard to do.

Kyle: Yeah,

Gary: and it's fascinating too 'cause I feel like our, like, I feel like we're heading into very, very hard times personally. Like I can just, you can just feel economically you can, yeah. I just feel like we're in very hard times and so like. I wouldn't have wanted to be pr poly with a minority, trying to figure stuff out with the block, the separatist party, while trying to keep all his promises of hacking and whack, like let the liberal government wear the carnage that's coming the next few years.

I, I think they deserve it. They cause most of it. And [00:24:00] eventually, you know what, it's, it's probably gotta get a lot worse before it gets better. Yeah. Let the liberal party wear it and eventually people will be like, oh, wow, okay. All the slogans, all the sayings, all the, you know, whatever. It's, it's all just verbal diarrhea and there's, there's gotta be some hard decisions that need to be made.

Right? Yeah. So we'll see.

Kyle: Or higher taxes. I mean, you look at like that, like, um, higher taxes

Gary: than we have.

Kyle: Holland has higher taxes than we have.

Gary: Are you sure?

Kyle: No. I just know they pay super high taxes. I love it. I I, I know that there's some tax brackets above 50%.

Gary: Yeah. But here, there are too. If you add in other stuff.

Yeah. That's fair. Right. Like, I mean, which is insane. Which is insane. insane It,

Kyle: it literally is

Gary: robbery. Yeah. There used to be revolutions at like 10%. Taxation is theft. It's also interesting. That like almost every tax when it's implemented, especially early on, like with income tax and stuff, it was all temporary.

It was 'cause of war. Yeah. Yeah, it was. And that's with all things that are bs they come in under the guise of, you know, climate change. Yeah. Or just some crisis, right? [00:25:00] Like politicians bring things in under a crisis. And yeah, it made me think of, uh, there was a really tragic accident here on the weekend, or not accident, but some, some man drove into a bunch of people and killed a lot of people in Vancouver.

It was on CNBC. It's pretty, pretty. Was it a

Kyle: terrorist thing or what was it?

Gary: No, I think, I don't know what it was. I have no idea what it was. I mean, I would assume it was somebody that was very mentally unwell and very deranged or whatever. But anyways, drove vehicle, uh, nothings has been said and the fellows still alive, so we may find out.

It wasn't like he was killed or anything. Um, but, uh, what, 11 dead or

Kyle: something? Yeah. Yeah.

Gary: It's just tragic, right? But it's the idea of like right away people said, oh, how come there wasn't a barrier? Like, oh, there shouldn't have been any access. Well, like. Under that, nobody should be walking along the street without a barricade between where people walk.

Exactly. Like people don't think before they speak, they don't play out the tape all the way. And they don't realize that like there's gonna be awful things happening all the time. We are not gonna avoid awful things and there's gonna be no amount of broken

Kyle: world ruled by saying.

Gary: Yeah. Or just the idea of like.

You know, you can't make [00:26:00] things like there's risk in everything. Like there's risk in driving to work, there's risk in getting on a plane. There's, there's risk in fun things. Yeah. Like fun sports and risk is good. I,

Kyle: I remember, uh, someone telling me that they started making playgrounds now a little bit more dangerous again because they realized that if they were taking too much risk out of kids' lives, that it actually as adults,

Gary: they were just getting totally handicapped.

Kyle: Yeah.

Gary: And like, and it's fascinating because fear is just a powerful thing and when you Yeah, I mean I even myself, I'm like, oh man, am I getting

Kyle: walked around? Turning into

Gary: a total weasel, man? Man up.

Kyle: You know what? I got to read day yesterday, so when I went to the hospital when I was nine in the psych ward.

Yeah, there's tons of paperwork and stuff. Yeah. Communication all around that. I got all that paperwork. Okay. Did you read it now? Yeah. You said it. Okay. I did read it. Yeah. That was

Gary: pretty interesting.

Kyle: Yeah. Pretty interesting. Yeah.

Gary: You realize you're healthier now than you thought. You're healthier than your 9-year-old self.

Yes. By quite a

Kyle: bit. By quite a bit. Oh, that's awesome. Uh, but, uh, what was just saying Oh yeah, the risk, the risk thing. Um, and just like what the impacts of, [00:27:00] of what happens to you as a kid is monumental.

Gary: Yeah. Our, our, the way we think and the way we do things is, is, is vastly shaped by our childhood experience, which makes, puts a lot of pressure on you as a parent.

Yeah. You think of all the processing that a kid's, a little kid's doing as they're being shaped by what their parents are saying and doing. Or not saying. Or not saying. Yeah. Yeah. Probably both. Probably both. I would say both. Yeah, both.

Kyle: Omission is a big thing too though, right? Like you can say like, if you never talk about your relationship with God.

Or or why you love Jesus? Yeah. Teacher one or Yeah. Whatever. This then your kid's assuming, right? Yeah. And assuming is bad for everybody. Exactly. Or if you, you never never hear you pray, you know? Yeah. You might not, you might go to church every Sunday, but you know, things like that. Like that. Yeah. Or

Gary: are you actually praying for your kid with your kid?

Yeah. Yeah. Of course. If you got your struggle in yourself, it's pretty tough.

Kyle: Yeah,

Gary: it's pretty tough. 'cause you don't wanna be a hypocrite.

Kyle: Maybe else,

Gary: maybe, uh, maybe one day I'll share some of that stuff. You need to process it still. No, that's fair. That's fair. I look [00:28:00] at, even me, myself, I often think, 'cause I deal with a lot with guys that are in the early twenties and stuff, and I remember back to being in my early twenties being so broken and hurting so bad.

Mm-hmm. I mean, I often try to share that just to give people encouragement when they're whatever. And I, like I say, I grew up in a good home. Right. It's just you have these, I mask my early twenties. I masked

Kyle: it all. I had I just white knuckled and tried hard, went hard. Was a good boy. Yeah. Put on a good front for the most part.

Yeah. I guess it did still.

Gary: I just always knew. Knew even though everything was fine on the outside or it's like, well, you had this job and you're working hard. You were self-aware enough. I was pretty self-aware. That's what really bothered me because it was like I could even knew how people perceive me or they would say things, oh, you're good at this, or, oh, you're doing well there.

It's like, inside, I'm dying. Inside, I'm dying. This is not good. Right, and that's. Yeah. When that separates and those things are separate, it's like, Hey, how do you, how do you all of a sudden cross back? And that's, I think that's hard with people even,

Kyle: I mean, like now, so I'm doing my Freedom Session grad on Thursday and, and having to give a testimony still here.

Yeah. And, uh, [00:29:00] and, and, and sharing, um, yeah, that, like, it has helped a lot, but that I'm still. Still have lots to work on and still have a lot of brokenness and, and pain and things like that. And, and uh, yeah, I think that it's, uh, yeah.

Gary: That is interesting. That is this, 'cause this one's coming out this week, so Yeah, that is tomorrow night.
