half percent quarter quarter percent so they went down total of half percent now since everything start going up yeah

much that's floating or uh or variable is attached to that I guess the thing that 1:27

really yeah it helps I just feel feel like it basically means that our economy is heading into the 1:33

toilet so people that gloat about interest rate drops and are like excited for them to drop they're basically

wishing that their neighbor loses their job right so you know um they not might not consciously wish

no they don't realize that but I mean ultimately when the Bank of Canada lowers rates it means that the econom is in tough shape right and uh I mean

arguably we're in a recession already we people don't really talk about it because there's been so many people many immigrants that have been coming into

the country uh that that uh our GDP per capita I think is going down but GDP in 2:06

general is going up so our government would just brag of course that GDP is going up um and and Define GDP uh gross

domestic product so basically like the overall economic activity right and it's also really skewed and and there again

I'm not an economist but but I think it's really skewed because our governments run huge deficits so a lot

of the GDP is actually created by deficit spending out of federal vinal level and that's just not sustainable I

mean there is going to come a point of Reckoning where governments will have to have some austerity and uh it's going to

be painful and uh yeah I don't know so what do you think it's gonna think just going to keep lowering it slowly or

going to I think they could do big drops because I think that people are in deep deep trouble I think that you know basically and that won't make um the

really hyper low interest rates created an environment and even before that before you know the Rona and rates went

to the floor before that even at a 2 3% interest rate it really incentivized

people to take risks that they probably shouldn't have take and it definitely deinen diviz uh uh saving you know our

whole generation basically in my whole business life from 2000 you know when I started in O2 all the way to now anybody

that saved money and was Frugal and saved for something before they bought it ended up looking like an idiot because the guy that borrowed all the

money and bought 10 of them ended up you know the house went up yeah I mean you know I remember buying my first house in

chillak and 03 for 153,000 well you know like the old saying go so I should have bought more of them well that's cuz

that's what a million today yeah but of course anybody yeah well not 8 00 but I mean anybody that bought you know 10 of those houses in 2022 which some did in

the beginning they're losing two 300,000 a house right now selling them so I mean you know it's just you don't want to

have those types of swings and these big interest rate adjustments cause those swings and I don't think people realize

that I think everything is kind of debt driven and even today at today's rate you know you you you say hey does is it going to make a difference especially

when it comes to real estate I mean Nothing Cash Flow still you could put 20% down on a house in chillak and I

mean unless it's got three suets in it or something unique or I mean the math I do nothing makes sense it was funny I

had a guy come over to uh my house last week and he's from Ontario and he was um looking at um moving here and looking at

all the houses and he goes like why does everything have a sweet in it he goes like any any place you buy brand new

houses go up and they have a carriage house with a sweet in it and uh and so he just wasn't used to that so so it is

very geographical as well then okay and I do think Ontario is probably I mean 4:32

maybe not from where he's from if he's from a smaller town Orit you know outside proba pretty similar I think it's pretty similar oh it is okay yeah

yeah I mean in the GTA there's serious re real estate issues I you know it's it's very very public about especially

the condos right and there again it's it's speculation and we need speculation um speculation is healthy for Real

Estate it's it's kind of this you know um basically you need people that can put money down on Condos for example in

a city and and so that's healthy it's just so what what happens if uh like the government keeps spending the way it

does or what happens if like let's say the government changes and PV gets in he's going to have a huge mess on his

hands I do not you know people think people think he's the Savior but he's he's not going to do anything that's

going to be pleasant what about that uh those have you follow those guys in um South America um that did in Argentina

it's going really well I actually just listened to uh podcast with him they expected it to be really painful but it's it's been pleasantly surprising now

that because they had hyperinflation and there again I'm not an eon but like because they had 5:31

hyperinflation uh or definitely you know substantially more than we have as bad as our and our inflation is way worse

than the numbers say too so that's the other thing that drives me crazy our econ PES me off too it's like it's so disingenuous to the average person

because people you know obviously Economist and what they say what what do they say it is right now what percent like five three three and it's like or

even when they said it was eight it was 15 you know like you look at or 30 you look at equipment that we bought on our

farm or things like that you know that they're yeah just everything went to the moon right but uh in in Argentina and

food and food food's bad food's so crazy and you still have to eat you can do without a lot of things but you do need

to buy the food so they do care what food costs um and there's no gouging I mean no you know nobody's obviously

there's probably some through Co but it's in general the free market takes care of people that are cing go back to argen go Argentina they they they're

they had such bad inflation that just like I don't know if you've heard this before but the the idea of inflation is

almost worse than the inflation the Assumption of a inflation for the average person creates more problems

than the actual inflation so when he came in and there again I'm just guessing but I think he came in and he

did what he said he was going to do and it instantly created stability and that's what that country needed and

nobody else had the political will and that's the problem in our country too nobody has the political will to do the

right thing because it doesn't buy votes and politicians are all about being they 6:58

they're about keeping their job yeah bying and they got the media in their back pocket to communicate that yeah

yeah so when you say hey po of's going to come in and change things I mean he

he might um but he's going to have you know 300 or 200 MPS screaming at him 7:14

saying hey my constituents are upset because we're doing this we're doing this well unfortunately how much how

much like uh painful decisions would need to be made before it turns around like a l two two three years a lot

probably more than that like I I'm in and what's a practical thing that he would do that they're going to let let

people who have government jobs go because the current federal government has hired 40% new staff and you can ask

anyone who's listening to this when you use a government service whether it be cfia or you know suck CRA or you are

like they basically tell you when you call I called the other day I called CRA the line the wait so long there's no point even being on hold like you know

and that's with 40% increased spending on public servants right so um there's just going to have to be some hacking

and whacking and and unfortunately people are going to lose their jobs and I guess that comes back to the original statement about the interest rate

dropping right there are going to be people losing their jobs you know some people that are probably already you know having a hard time finding work or

whatever right so that's part of uh there's an interesting saying that uh

I've heard before and a recession is is when your neighbor loses your job and a depression is when you lose your job and

it's like I wouldn't say we're heading to depression but there's definitely needs to be some serious fiscal restraint and that's going to be painful

I that's my belief and what would you say to people um that are that are thinking about this and are worried and are scared and are you know anxious

about it especially from a Christian perspective like I mean I guess you're talking to a 8:41

lot of people you're talking to a lot of people buying houses and stuff like that um well connected and you're you meet

these people that are in these Financial situations like what what are you what are you telling them well there's every Everybody obviously has their own unique

situation right depending on the person I mean first of all back to the real estate I always say it's always great to own real estate so like people be like

oh you're a doomsday no I've made all my money in real estate so it's not that I don't agree with it it's just that you

know you have to look at the The Winds of of change here and think hey like we're heading into some pretty hard

times just be prudent at least right be you know don't stretch yourself to the end degree and I mean if you're a person

who has Faith it's like hey the the good Lord will take care of you it's just um and it's not going to 9:25

help to worry right I mean James says you know today has enough trouble Z so we don't we don't need to worry about tomorrow yeah um but it also just means

be a bit prudent right and like I said earlier I don't think that the word prudent and fiscal Prudence has been

lost in our time because it just it it it hurt you right yeah so closest we get 9:44

to it is calling people are prude yeah yeah I think that's a different meaning 9:49

but um okay but but I think it's I think it also uh the culture a little bit has

um set an expectation of things that they should own like nice cars nice

vacations nice all these things and that uh and just living beyond our means like 10:10

I always wonder if it is do you think it is do you think everybody's living beyond their means or I think are people choosing to spend money on those things

instead both probably I mean you probably probably have the full gamut but I see I think a lot of it is just

yeah there's an expectation to have a certain lifestyle that that's what's promoted in uh culture that's what

that's what's um you know when you think of you think of someone you respect often or like look up to or want to be

like often it's because what they have stuff they have yeah yeah I'm not saying that's good 10:42

just reality I think yeah even in our Dutch culture right it's like yeah we always talk about what the

land they have or the house they have or bus that's true the business yeah what have they built um what's his name um money

possessions and Eternity Randy elorn has a book that's the title of the book and uh he talks in there he goes uh often

even in churches the people that are put up for leadership are wealthy versus the 11:10

ones that are not wealthy even though they might not necessarily be as qualified in all the other areas or I'm not saying that's qualification but that

they're like these Godly men that maybe you know and and naturally people gravitate towards the people that are

and there again credit to my parents but like my parents were just very content people like you know I mean and there's

probably different reasons and not all positive but it's a general rule did they pass it over to you they did not pass it over to me I mean it's

embarrassing if I had to describe myself I would say perpetually discontent it's 11:48

awful so that needs to be something to work on something to work on yeah okay 11:53

Switching it up um politics have you do you follow it at all like which all

divisive um it's depressing it's depressing um I think most people that's

not true people in my circle people that I associate with uh most people I respect at least here in in Canada would

would think you know especially in the last year like these are our two best choices yeah that that that is that that

would you agree with that I think that's just I think it's just a bad a bad bad system and it is and it is sad yeah I I

just think yeah the whole the whole thing is I don't the the reason I want to bring it up is because um I read this um

never me it's like um never what I I can change is all the problems soles over there and I think um I I believe the the

standpoint it's engaging your neighbors you know on a way more local level and 14:45

being on Twitter less you know Beacon off about how how bad camela Harris is

you know which I'm I know she's not not great and I would uh don't condone her or anything else like that but I don't

know how effective it is if if everyone's in their hes doing that and they're not talking other usess yeah

yeah yeah the greatest impact we have of course would be in our own home first and then obviously in our own close

community and like I think even at a at a level or maybe you can't even do 15:13

anything politically in your own in your own like maybe it's not politically right but in our home it's always like

Hey What Can you just do like you know and you can just do basic things like you know like pick up garbage on your

own Street like keep your own Street tidy and like just basic things right and that's yeah I think everybody has an

opinion on everything and probably I would think mostly because of social media right where everything's kind of

being fed into our you know in small B inter he wrote that what in the 50s 50s or 60s yeah because humans

haven't changed they've changed how they do so but despite social media it like it still is like distraction right

distraction uh I mean it's it's and I kind kind of ties into that other thing I mentioned earlier before we started

here from I was listening to a an an what call that not a sermon like a topic from John Mark Homer um this morning on

the the Relentless elimination of hurry and he mentioned a quote from Corey tinbo is that Dutch lady that was in the

Holocaust and she said if Satan can't make you sin he will make you busy and I was like goodness that

is like convicting yeah that really struck cord with me I feel like uh

yeah super convicting right I feel like that's kind of one of the things I don't know if it's in our culture if it's just

in in my community but like busyness seems to be worn as a badge of an honor right it's just like oh you're a busy

person right um I'm way less busy than people think I am you know often people 16:47

will be like oh how do you sleep at night or you make comments like that it's like well pretty well unless there's kids throwing up or I'm you know

whatever but like you know um I have a lot of good people uh that are involved in all my things I do so I I'm probably

less busy Than People realize but I do feel like even for myself I just keep adding stuff and Mar will be like why

are you doing like it's not healthy right and then eventually the people closest to me always pay the price right

the people that I'm supposed to be caring for my very first people that I should actually be looking after for namely my wife and kids pay the price

right so it's a distraction again though right isn't it like it's just it's a another way to I mean why why do we not

discomfort of what we what everyone deals with on a daily basis right like we we want to we we try to fool

ourselves that we have we always have it all together and everything's hky Dory but I mean when we really stop and think

about it and are honest with ourselves and think we quickly find out that's not the case and I think when we allow for

that that's when you can actually make space for uh um prayer or or you know 18:12

just you know realizing this the the situation you're in and being able to do something about it that's not just

avoiding it MH back to um politics cuz I'm just

thinking now of something that you brought up I do think you know in the US and in Canada and even at a local level

but for sure federally right and provincially and I I think now even of the the situation we're in with our

government um the thing that really bothers me and I mean I'm probably guilty of it to some degree in my head

but like I think and I don't know if you feel this but it feels like you know let's just say Christians for the lack

of and that's a real generalization because obviously a lot of Christians wouldn't be in that camp but people that we're associating with feel like the

next person may be the Savior right you know the political Savior and like my thought always is is people make a

really bad savior yes you know and it's so but I what I think interesting about The Israelites

that is it's exactly what the Israelites did when Jesus came right like when Jesus came on Earth in Israel what they

wanted it was for him to be save them from the Romans yeah and be their new King on Earth and make the Earth great

um they they weren't that interested in like the next Kingdom that that Jesus would Reign on or in um I think the same

thing as today right like we don't we just want our lives to be great here we're not most people most Christians

aren't that concerned about the eternal life they're not excited to go to heaven they just want you know a nicer boat or

a better vacation or a nicer house or things like that and and you know the 19:46

the political system um is feels is attacking that so we hope those guys

will you know make our personal life better here on this Earth yeah yeah which is and it's like we should to what

we know is coming right we know what's coming Strife yeah War well but also

History of Christianity

hard times right if you look at the history of Christianity the last 2,000 years the last 300 have been the anomaly

in America where there's been peace and it's run by Christian government you 20:16

know or Christian judeo-christian values and stuff like that most often and most of the world still today um Christians

at least are they're not free at all that's what that's what's normal if you look at history look at normal or most

common it's that we're we're in a weird spot now where we have this freedom and it's amazing and good and we should fight for it I think it's good to have

um U these these values but it's not if that's where your hope is set on you're 20:41

going to be solely disappointed yeah and I find it fascinating too because I mean even a lot of the people that people put

their hope in that they're they're debatable some of them are not Christians they're not professing Christians and even the ones that are

like I said it just people make S myself included we make such awful gods that like like it's just bizarre to think

like hey this person's going to save us from all our problems like it's just yeah I just to me it's really like you

take some with these political leaders that are you know that people would naturally vote for in in the you know

more conservative circles and you would put that person in your church or at least a lot of churches they would get

so condemned skewed they' be skew but because they're like in your favor 21:24

politically they're like they're the best of the worst we take them forget about that stuff and we'll just take

what we have yeah and there again I do think it's all really important I would call myself borderline a political junkie to some extent but I have found

it very disconcerting when it's like and like I say I do a lot of business in the US too right and you know I get the best

of the two options and all these defenses but or whatever whatever your argument may be I just think that all

these people are are going to fall really short and I think that that's not where our comfort and our hope should be in as Christians and I found even

through the last three or four years here with everything that's going on um I got ground down to nothing just

realizing that you know what like I just like you talk about like your rights or even as Christians what it's supposed to look like or I just found like hey you

just find out what's important right and there's a lot of things that are going to divide and Satan is going to come and he's going to try to you know pit us

against each other because that's the easiest way to destroy something is from within that's usually how things come to

uh yeah come crashing down and I just feel like hey we need to be unified we need to be gracious and what does that

look like right and and obviously not not that easy I think a big part I came across a cartoon this week I'll see if I

screaming we are lost and then another gu pointing at his bible saying we are saved and so I think it's also uh um

kind of what you're consuming right whatever you're consuming if you're consuming the news which is uh a

for-profit organizations um that want that's selling fear that's selling fear like you're gonna be 23:02

fearful you're GNA be scared like if you're always listening to CBC you're going to be a very anxious person uh and

if you're not or you're going to think that people are doing a lot of awful things which there are a lot of awful things but there's a lot of people doing

amazing things that's true yeah there's a lot of people out of perspective yeah 23:18

yeah I found that too when uh our farm flooded in 2021 in the suass flats and 23:24

uh where we were farming at and uh that's the pig farm no that's my cousin's Farm he had a lot more

Devastation than I did uh my partner in beakman auctions but no our dairy farm is right on the on the SCS of the the

lake Bottom we had about 5 ft of water in our farm and and I found that the most beautiful thing of that time was

just how amazing people were you know and I've shared it often with people and I mean granted some people did fared way

worse than I did and had way less help we had beautiful Community Church community all kinds of people in the community and even government Heth like

we I I would say that we were cared for very well in general um and some people didn't have that but I found that the

whole process of just people helping dropping everything people that had nothing bringing us meals giving us gift

cards like it was super humbling right and so it's back to that and and during that time I mean I wasn't on Twitter

like you know it was just go time right and so I feel like yeah that's a really wise statement right and I think that

people are becoming I just listened to a podcast Matt Shan from our church pastor there he had a podcast with a fellow

from California who talks about uh digit detox yes and just I think people are 24:28

becoming aware of that slowly you know yeah buy a lock box Gary lock box i b 24:34

yeah I've used it one time for 13 hours no you that's twice you use it one time before put for a half hour just to test

myself okay I can do this no but there's that's what I need you know and I need 24:46

that my family needs that and I need that and uh this guy talks about you know a day a week right of the year and

he's turned it into two or 3 weeks and and that's my goal like two or three weeks of what like with no phone okay

with no social media no outside connection other than like you know using his yeah just pure communication

I'm think about doing it I'm thinking about doing 30 days and like using my GoPro to video myself like going through the 30 days and see if I can just run my

business with just a dumb phone that just texts and calls only and nothing else which for sure any you can do it's

just going to be a pain but just to show people it's not as it's actually not as hard as as it seems it just that we're

just so used to this thing being glued to us that it's highly uncomfortable

for the and everybody falls in different camps so like you know I could easily put myself in the camp of having to have

social media right because of my businesses but I don't like I still wouldn't put myself in that camp I would

say that I and I have went through Seasons just for other reasons Pur reasons say no Facebook no Instagram no

nothing right um I think that yeah it's just so toxic right and I

feel like even us we didn't I didn't grow up with it as a kid right so like I mean I got my first phone when I was in grade 12 I think and uh and it was just

a texting phone which is all anybody really needs texting and calling that that would be you know most of us would agree you really do need that we need to

be able to communicate yeah um but I look at Kids now and I have a lot of them over at our house a lot of young

people and it's like it's just terrifying you just think of the comparison comparison and just how 26:16

people are uh so so everybody knows that everybody would agree with that but it's like hey what do you do from here right and how do we I like you say like a lock

boox like and parents need to lead I mean you know I often think hey we're harder than our kids our kids AR even

old enough to really have a phone yet and we're like trying to limit them with screen time and limit like we don't limit ourselves I'm limiting out at like

5 6 hours a day I don't know if you check your screen time but like I'm averaging five six hours a day on my phone I mean it's it's a disaster yeah

I'm probably pretty high too cuz now to be fair I probably talk two to four hours every day on my phone just

talking you know but 3 hours and 7 Minutes daily average yeah so you're 26:51

pretty low so you're doing real well you got that thing locked up enough locked away good for you surprising actually

how much I still am on it um you wouldn't have thought it was that high that low Oh I thought it would have been

higher I mean I guess I'm yeah on the computer a lot as well um yeah I mean 27:09

that what I think is crazy just when I got my lockbox um and for you guys that listening they don't know what a lock

box is it's where I throw my phone in and you can set a timer on it for however much time you want and then it's

it's locked in there you can't get it out unless you break the box I broke two boxes in two years um but it'd be like I don't know

Friday night i' sit in there till Sunday night or Monday morning and uh and I I 27:32

remember going to my box the the cupboard one day and like grabbing the box and looking at my phone in the box and be like this is like I'm on cocaine

like I a clear box where you could see through and see I used to have clear box I was smart enough not to get the clear

box I'm like no I don't need that noise put that thing on do not disturb yeah yeah I 27:51

think it would start just with like for me anyways and i' I've shared this with you a lot like that window of like 5:00

I get home 5:30 whatever you know there's six kids and a wife that's just fried yeah you know I need to be alert

and I'm not if I have my phone in my pocket I'm just not like there's people that keep texting and especially being a realtor and hey and everything it's just

not you know whatever so if I could do the 5 to eight it doesn't need to be dramatic I mean obviously for the

weekend's awesome and that would be my goal that for sure like a good chunk of the weekend it could be in there and just not being a distraction but I just

think if I don't put it in there it's just too easy to go check it even last night I didn't have it in there and I

bet you three times over the course of dinner and after and you know it's kind of like oh I'm going to oh did did he
