Kyle: How was the, what's the SHOT Show? It's uh, the biggest commercial gun show in the world. It's not open to the public. Oh, it's not? Nope. It's only open to vendors and people in the industry, but it's still between 80 and 100, 000 people. It is massive.

Gary: So how would somebody not just be able to get tickets for it, to get in there?

Well, to get a badge,

Kyle: you need to be associated.

Gary: Some connection.

Kyle: Into the industry. Okay. Very interesting. People were actually surprised I had a badge for my coaching company. Cause they're like, it's not associated with the firearms company. So, um, I just sent in the reviews I got or testimonials I got from people I worked with in the industry.

And I showed proof that I worked in the industry for a long time. And they gave you the ticket. Yeah. So

Gary: there are people, and there's [00:02:00] some. It's the company that runs the show that decides who gets the badge then? So other people like you are obviously applying and some would get rejected and some, okay.

Kyle: And they've clamped down on it over the years too, like sometimes it gets too busy and like they see companies are giving them out to their friend and this and that and then they clamp down on it a bunch, but yeah. So, but it's uh, yeah, it's cool to be there because I know a lot of people in the industry from my time at MDT.

Mm hmm. And so it was cool to connect with everyone and uh. MDT would

Gary: obviously have a booth there. Yeah, big booth there. Okay.

Kyle: Yeah. Okay. Same with my old colleagues. Okay. And then I spent one day with, um, three different guys. So I was there for four days, but on Tuesday I spent a guy, um, a full day with a guy Wednesday and then Thursday.

All guys I'm already coaching.

Gary: Okay. Did you go to the Grand Canyon? I did not, no. Okay. You've been before, I'm assuming? No. You haven't? No. You've literally been to Vegas lots of times and never went to the Grand Canyon. It's the only reason I want to go to Vegas. I went

Kyle: to the casino for the first time and play, and watch a bunch of guys play roulette.

Okay. I thought of you, actually. I was like, I don't fit in here, but Gary probably would. I'm

Gary: not a roulette guy, but [00:03:00]

Kyle: What would you play usually?

Gary: Just card games, like, against players, like poker. Yeah, Texas Hold'em. Okay. Yeah. I mean The house always wins is a saying for a reason. Yeah, I mean, the place is insane.

I'm like,

Kyle: just walking around there and seeing how expensive everything looks. I'm like, this, someone's paying for this. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It's crazy how

Gary: much money gets spent on gambling.

Kyle: So,

Gary: yeah, we haven't recorded for three weeks. Yeah. Speaking of gambling, I read yesterday that in, uh, um, USA last year, 2024, a hundred and I think it was 34 billion people spent buying lottery tickets.

Yeah. More than ever. All the other, I think it was all the other sports combined. It was a crazy stat. It's amazing how much people, and it's

Kyle: a tax on the poor. It's a

Gary: tax on the poor. Yeah.

Kyle: Because

Gary: the poor

Kyle: people

Gary: usually buy them. Yeah. That's the sad part. Yeah. Well, the rich don't because they, they know what it's like to have the money and it's, it left them wanting.

Yeah. Well, and know the odds. Know the odds. Yeah.

Kyle: [00:04:00] Okay. But good three weeks.

Gary: Yeah. We had the, uh, agriculture show last week. Oh yeah. So, uh, we had a booth there, uh, for Beekman auctions and real estate. Um, great spot to be just to meet. Like I always look at it. People are like, oh, do you pick up business? I mean, maybe, but like, it's way more about just meeting your existing customers, um, rather than drive all over the Fraser Valley or wherever and trying to meet people on when they're busy trying to do their work.

It's just way easier when they're relaxed, they come in, they walk through there and quickly say hi or so. Yeah, that was good. It's, uh, we have our auction coming, our spring equipment auction coming up. So what are the dates on that? It would be April 3rd is a Thursday, I think. So that would be the actual auction day.

And then the night before we have our, uh, our free dinner that we host for the community and the spring one's always a monster.

Kyle: Nicole's due April 2nd. So, um, I'll just ask her to push that out. So yeah, work that, like push that out. Like earlier. Is that

Gary: a metaphor?

Kyle: Like I wasn't thinking of that.

Gary: Nice.[00:05:00]

Pretty witty. Um, Yeah, it's been busy, busy, busy time. Like I say, did I already, did we already talk about Marie being gone? No. I feel like we did. Yeah, we did downstairs. Oh. Yeah, I mean, Marie's gone, right? So it's like for four days. So it's like. Last night she left. Yeah. And, uh, yeah, the kids just went into like deep depression, right?

Like they know they're in big trouble. You or the kids? Well, me too, but like the kids for sure. I'm trying to hold it together for their sake. So are you just, do you

Kyle: clear your schedule for three days or four days?

Gary: I mean, I'm here now, so I'm not, it's not that clear. Somebody came to the house for a bit today to look after the little ones and, uh.

Yeah, I did. I had kids this morning with me, and then, uh, I have someone coming tonight while I'm at Freedom Sessions. Did you look up against

Kyle: these four days or you look forward to it? Is it, are you ambivalent? I think

Gary: it's, first of all, it's always healthy to do other people's stuff in your inner circle, whether it be employees or spouse or anybody, like anybody that you're kind of like that you might take for granted, it's good to just do their stuff once in a while.

So [00:06:00] they, and I already knew this before I did this, cause I've done it like for a half a day. Sometimes I'll look after the kids and I'll be like, this is insane. I don't know how Marie does it for nine hours, 10 hours in a day. But like, so I think that's awesome. Like, I think it's healthy for me just to. I mean, I already appreciate her, but it'll just appreciate her more.

And, um, I think it's super good for her. Cause I think it's just going to be a great break. She's going with another lady and, uh, she's going to Pennsylvania, like just to learn how to be a better Mennonite wife, like

Kyle: Lancaster, right? Like Lancaster.

Gary: Yeah. So I sent her there and she's gonna work harder. How to work harder.

Yep. How to beat the rug harder and clean it better. Buy some long ankle, long skirts or something. No, anyways, it's a foster adoptive conference. And, uh, she's going with another friend who is also a foster adoptive parent. So pretty cool. And, uh, it'll be a good break. It's a long flight flying to Philadelphia.

First, they drove to Seattle, fly to Philadelphia.

Kyle: I interviewed a guy in the three weeks that we were, um, off, uh, and his name's Pat Chabelle. He's a singer songwriter. Um, [00:07:00] he wrote like songs like Jesus, thank you and other well known songs, but he's been, um, he has like four, three kids that are in their thirties and he has had fostered like 10 other ones.

And so he has, he's 60, 59. He's a five year old at home, 12 year old at home, and, uh, but he shared some of his, um, lessons through fostering and stuff like that. So I think you'll enjoy that episode. I would love to listen to it. I think it comes out this Saturday. You need to double check the dates cause.

Gary: Where is he pastoring or sorry, where is he singing? He's Vancouver. Oh, he's Canadian. Vancouver, yeah. Okay. Yeah. Okay. But

Kyle: we sing some of his songs at Central

Gary: and stuff. Yeah. Yeah. No, that, that, that, the one song sounded familiar. I do think it's, uh, with, it'd be interesting to, uh, people like that are listening.

Cause I think a lot of people that are listening to our podcast would be amazing foster parents. And I think people always think, well, I couldn't do that. That's always the first response. And it's like, well, I always say like. Look at me like, do you think I can?

Kyle: Yeah. I actually told him that I, I referenced you and I said, how You've answered that before, saying neither can I?

Gary: Yeah.

Kyle: Like,

Gary: um, neither can I, so like, I think, uh, even just start with [00:08:00] respite. I would encourage people to look into, I think it's a really, really easy way, like the call, one of the calls that always stands out in the Bible to me is to care for the orphans and the widows. And it's like the easy, that's not true.

It's not the easiest way, but it's a, it's a very practical way of just like getting in the trenches and really caring for people that need care. And I, I think it's healthy for us. Yeah.

Kyle: Yeah. Good. Okay. We got some, uh, feedback, uh, on some of our last episodes and read this one. This is regarding Botox. Hey, did we talk about Botox and overtime or in the main session?

Uh, overtime. Are you serious? Yes. We referenced it in the main, in the main one and it said we were going to talk about an overtime. Okay. I got accosted over it.

Gary: Right. So. By who? I'm not going to say. Okay. I'll remain unnamed. Right. But. It was a woman, and she said, you two dudes, shut up, don't talk about something that you don't know anything about.

Kyle: know what else to say, Berson. Anyways, okay, this is the quote. And for the record, there's a difference between Botox and fillers. Just so Gary knows, Botox is irreversible, and it freezes the muscle. [00:09:00] Well, fillers are injected for plumping purposes. I don't know what you need to plump. Oh man. I thought it was plumbing purposes.

Gary: I read that wrong in the show notes.

Kyle: Anyways, that was the feedback I thought I'd read. I really have

Gary: nothing else to say about it. Oh, so yeah, I had two people. I come out, two ladies come after me. The other one said, well, Hey, just so you know, like people put stuff in there just for like health reasons and don't be so judgmental and whatever.

I just said, Hey, if we're not controversy at all, nobody's going to listen to this thing. Right. No one wants to talk to two people that take it safe all the time. So I'm okay. Getting skewered the odd time, but I will, I digress. I don't really have much, much I'll say about it.

Kyle: Okay.

Gary: I was mostly confused because I thought, I was sure we talked about in the overtime.

So when this person came, I'm like, I'm not, I'm thinking they're not paying to listen to me in overtime. I know that for sure. So like, they just went off simply based off the fact that it was on. Well, you don't know who

Kyle: the overtime listeners are, so maybe. No, I don't. So maybe they were one of them. It doesn't matter.

[00:10:00] Okay. We are doing a new book. A couple, about a month ago, we ended to finish the book, uh, Seven Deadly Sins. Yeah. Um, or Kill Joyce. People

Gary: really enjoyed that book. The people that did buy it, and some of you bought it and read along, and if you haven't, and yeah, I would say, especially if you're a Christian, it's a great read.

Kyle: Yeah. There was going to a new book called Gentle and Lowly, uh, The Heart of Christ for Sinners and Sufferers. Um, it's probably one of the most, Impactful books I've ever come across, just because I think it's so easy to have a bad view of who God is a bad view or an incorrect view of who God is and his character, which I think impacts a lot in how we, um, act our beliefs, drive our behaviors.

And so if we have a bad belief about God and we're going to have bad behaviors and going to him. So I'm just going to read some different, uh, uh, quotes here and then we'll just talk about them. So I'll start with the introduction.

Gary: Let's stay in the introduction. Just to be fair to me, because I never, I mean, I've read the first chapter, but I didn't [00:11:00] read it this week.

I only read the introduction. All right. We'll see how far we get here.

Kyle: I quote, this is a book about the heart of Christ. Who is he? Who is he really and what is most natural to him? What ignites within him most immediately as he moves towards sinners and sufferers? What flows out most freely, most instinctively? Who is he? So I think it's important to ask yourself that question, like, what do you think about when you think of God or Christ, like his natural inclinations towards you?

This book is written to the discouraged, the frustrated, the weary, the disenchanted, the cynical, the empty, those running on fumes, those whose Christian lives feel like constantly running up a descending escalator. Those of us who find ourselves thinking, how could I mess up this bad again? It is for that increasing suspicion that God's patience with us is wearing thin.

For those who know God loves us, but suspect we have a deeply disappointed [00:12:00] him. Who have told others of the love of Christ, yet wonder if, as for us, he harbors mild resentment. Who wonder if we have shipwrecked our lives beyond what can be repaired. Who are convinced we're permanently diminished our usefulness to the Lord.

who have swept off our feet by perplexing pain and are wondering how we can keep living under such numbing darkness, who look at our lives and know how to interpret the data only by concluding that God It's fundamentally parsimonious, which means like frugal or cheap. It is written, in other words, for normal Christians.

In short, it is written for sinners and sufferers. How does Jesus feel about them? That is what this

Gary: book is about. I love that. I thought it was very interesting. If you go back to the very beginning of that quote, um, it was kind of, yeah. This book

Kyle: is written for the discouraged, the frustrated, the weird, the disenchanted, the cynical, the [00:13:00] empty, those running on fumes.

Gary: Yeah. So that part really stood out to me. And after that he talks about those Christians or however he labels that, but it, it, it would really speak to the non Christians too. Um, cause they would feel like that as well. I find, I thought it was interesting in that, um, Just just come up a lot in the last few weeks about how people do good works or people do good things and even Non christians like people that are not Christians obviously do a lot of great things sometimes I would argue live way better lives than a lot of people that are believers And I think that's where in our culture we get a bit screwed up where we're like We just equate the good works with the Christian life, which of course Should be a result of that, but it's so deceiving in the sense of we become, I don't want to say Catholic, but we become very much, it's very dangerous where it does become a thing where we're judging outward things.

Um, and I think. And

Kyle: also I think good works is usually on like a deed you do, but not a character trait and the fruits of the spirit, the fruits of being a Christian is your [00:14:00] character. Your character is gentle, lowly. Um, sorry. Love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, like it's your, it's your very much your character.

And I think so much, too much, we put it associated the fruits of being a Christian with like, I know, are you allowed to do this or allowed to do that? Or.

Gary: Ultimately, I guess I felt like it was, it was a two pronged kind of like conviction in that, where it was, Hey, if you're a believer, You could still become very discouraged thinking that, you know, you know, you've screwed up again.

And I always tell my kids that too, because we, we do a lot of like basic studying of kind of like, you know, how, how to view God. And it's like, no God. We need to run to him when we're in our darkest and like the Psalms talk about that, right? When David is like, you know, and all the, you know, people are messing up in scripture.

It shows them turning to God and crying out to him. Well, that's not our natural tendency. Like our natural tendency is to hide. It's to do the Adam and Eve thing and hide. Right. So it's like, um, and then I think even on the other, the other, the other prong of that is, Hey, if you're not a Christian and you feel discouraged and [00:15:00] hopeless, it's like, Hey, you are.

No amount of good stuff or money or all the things that we all, all of us pursue, including Christians. But, you know, I think people that don't know the Lord and have, don't have a relationship with God in any way, they're like, Hey, they're just trying harder. Right. And it's such a, it's such a exhausting cycle.

Right. And I think that, um, I think the book, cause I've read quite a bit of it already, uh, in bits and pieces, I think he talks a lot about just. Not getting in that cycle and just resting and how gracious and loving God is. Yeah, I think you do that by

Kyle: understanding who God actually is because if you have a, that's why they ask, if you have a bad view of God that he's the bad guy in the sky looking at you, you're not going to go to him when you're discouraged.

Gary: No, no. That's why I love Freedom Session because I feel like, I feel like that was the first time that I really had a pretty healthy view, um, of God. Somebody really taught. Holistically, right? Like, I think you take any verse in scripture and, and just put a label on, but it's like, Hey, if you go through the Bible in its entirety, right.

There's like, God hates sin. Yeah. He hates it all [00:16:00] the time. He's angry all the time, you know, but. He's also loving and slow to anger, right? And compassionate. Yeah,

Kyle: I think what we just talked about is very much like basically the first chapter. So I'm still going to read some. Don't, don't read the first chapter.

Gary: to wait for me. No, we're moving on. You can't do it to me. I don't even have the book with me. Okay. Okay. I will. I apologize. I will read the first chapter for next week. And for those of you that read the first chapter and didn't bother reading the introduction, you should always read the introduction.

Kyle: Yes. Or not. Um, Yeah, I, I, I just read the first chapter like an hour ago again. So I've pretty fresh, it's pretty,

Gary: you're pretty fired up, pretty fresh. So excited about it. It's so good. It's

Kyle: so good, but I'll wait. Um, okay. I want to talk about something else. I want to talk about, uh, self sabotage. Um, so, um, and I'll just share, so I was coaching a guy and, uh, he was talking about this in his own life and, um, the next day I sent him a text on.

Where it shows up in my life. So I'll just read the text that I [00:17:00] sent to him. I said, I just caught myself in self sabotage this afternoon, so I thought I would share. I've been done work since four, got lots done today. Nicole and the boys came home from hockey and skating at around 410 and I greet them.

Um, hockey I can go play at every week, but I always work instead. Which kind of bugs me, but apparently not enough. Um, Malika asks me to play hockey with him in the garage and I avoid. And I say, in 20 minutes. Instead I go smoke some weed. Yes, terrible crutch, I know that. Uh, the timer goes at 4. 30 and I'm golfing in the backyard.

Malika yells at me from inside and says, it's time to play hockey. But I avoid going inside. Self sabotage. Why? I have no idea. I love my kids to death and work really hard at being a good dad. But most times I'd rather work than be with them. I might, I think I might feel more control at work and at home it's not as much but I don't really understand.

Um, and uh, I talk to more guys as well and talking to you and stuff like that, I think this comes up more often but it's still, [00:18:00] um yeah, I just thought I would share that text and we can chat about it. What did you think?

Gary: I can identify with that years ago. I don't really feel like I fall into that as much anymore.

I think I catch myself pretty quick, but I could totally in the past. It was always that would just spiral into like bad behavior, beating myself up. Um, and I think that I don't know. My experience has been that. And I mean, Bible talks about how, like, The, the battles are actually spiritual and it's like, I feel like the devil the minute if, and that's where secret sin is super dangerous, right?

If we have something that we're doing that nobody else knows about other than God, just us. We, uh, he'll use it. He'll just, he'll beat us up with it. He'll keep us totally impotent, just totally powerless to do anything, you know, right away, the minute we think, oh, we should do this or say this, oh, you can't do that.

You know, you know, and he'll just remind us. Yeah. If people really knew who you were, you know, you're, you're a fraud. And so I. That's where it came up in my life, like I had that where it would be like, and I [00:19:00] would do, I would try harder, and I've actually talked to people that have been listening to the show that have been breaking out of that cycle, that have been being fully honest, and it was exactly the same thing with them, where like, finally, when they were honest, it was like, okay, now they could find some freedom, right?

But it's that, it's amazing how When we're in, when, when we're in that state of kind of secret stuff. And then, yeah, we just beat the crap out of ourselves. Right. So I didn't

Kyle: really see this as secret stuff. This for me was just more that I was avoiding going to play with my kids. Um, but why though, or why, why, how would you call that self sabotage?

Well, because I, I don't need, like, I don't need to go be working, but I can choose just to avoid, uh, like I'm sabotaging my relationship with my kids or like, I'm not taking the time, the opportunity that I have, and instead I'm going to go work on something or do something that, you know, at that time is not, you know, I don't need to be doing that, but I just, but I still go do it anyway.

I just avoid or try to escape. And, and often you can do that with your phone. I think that's where most. Phone's the biggest one. Yeah. Go, go, go to, but I'm going to just do it

Gary: with my time where, you know, like I'm. Okay. [00:20:00] It's a fine line though, because sometimes you do just got to go work and like the kids are just like in our house, it's perpetually be, you're being asked to be doing something like with the kid.

I mean, we have a lot of little kids, but I, yeah, it's about, I guess, just setting that time to actually do something with them. And I would struggle with that too.

Kyle: But you would, I mean, you would have it that it's, it's five 30 or six, whatever, like you've done supper and, and you know, you have an opportunity to go show a house or play with the kids.

Like what's your temptation?

Gary: Phone would be the biggest distraction. That's why I've always known that if I left my phone, like you've talked about too, if it's even just sitting there on the counter, right? Like I'm periodically, you know. Yeah.

Gary: Oh yeah, I had, uh, well, of course I was at the egg show, uh, with the bale of hay there talking to customers, some guys that listen to the show that are farmers and, [00:21:00] and they felt like there should be more farming content.

And I said, have you looked at Kyle? Like, does he look like a farmer?

Kyle: I remember I saw. You talk

Gary: about what you're passionate about. You do not

Kyle: care about farming. I remember, I remember I worked for Bob Matzik when I was in grade 12. So I biked to, um. Oh, so you have milked cows. Yeah. So I, I'd bike to, uh, and I worked for Neil Stahm.

Those

Gary: poor cows.

Kyle: As well. Oh, I had no patience. Um, I would bike at three o'clock in the morning, I would bike all the way to, um, Gibson road and milk for Bob Matzik and bike home, get home like seven, go to school. Um, and then, uh, that summer after I graduated, I was working for him full time. Um, and then when I quit, he's like, yeah, you didn't really seem like the farming type.

Not a cow guy. He's like, he'd like it. Cause he'd be like, can you wait for five or 10 minutes after you're done milking and see like, who's in heat and stuff. And like stand there for like a one minute and be like, I'm done.

Gary: Nothing's going on

Kyle: here. Nothing's going on. So. Yeah.

Gary: I always think, I wonder if it's a trained thing with cows, [00:22:00] because some people are just cow people, like some farmers, like I know most farmers pretty well.

And you can kind of just even go to a dairy and see like, Hey, is there a cow person on this farm? What are the cows, are the cows happy? Are they comfortable? How well are they being looked after? And it's like, but for me, I would say I've, because I did not grow up on a farm. My dad never touched a tractor cow in his life.

It's like, I feel like I've. Become something like not a guru, like not like my brother in law, not like guys are phenomenal with cows for sure. But like I definitely, I can take one walk through my barn and know which cows are not eating or which which are not doing well or which cows are in heat or whatever, right?

It's different when it's your own as well. Yeah. And when you're young, you just, it's care. And it's, it is partially personality where you just have to have that patient. That's why I don't think I am as good as some guys that are just, you know, very slowly going through the barn. I feel like, man, I'm always thinking about something else and you really got to be paying attention.

Right. So I do intentionally try to walk through my barn, especially now because my main guy's not there. So I try to spend a little more time there, but you find someone else yet? No, because it's going pretty well with the two Filipinos. They're doing a great [00:23:00] job. And it's, it's such a weird role where it's like, not a, our phones are Pavlo, a dog here.

It's just pinging. It's driving me bonkers between what

Kyle: Gary's saying is that our phones in their lockbox right now

Gary: and they're vibrating, it's making it worse than if we were just had them on. Do not disturb. We should get them out of here. It's Kyle's. It's not mine. I put mine on day not disturb.

Actually. Now that I think about it, but, um, I think that people that listen to the podcast. There's quite a few farmers that listen to it. So we'll have to, maybe have to start a farming segment and you'll have to, I thought even the other day I was trying to. No segments

Talk about. Okay. Yeah. That's fair. That's fair. Beat him with his own crudule. The, uh, I thought even of doing like, it wouldn't work on the podcast, but like, I love talking about like supply management, partially cause it gets like. People riled up. Capitalist, well it gets people riled up. Ben. Some people are just fascinated by it.

Like it's a whole, it's just, it's, it's a bizarre thing.

Kyle: Like even, sorry, go ahead. What were you going to say? I totally forgot that. I w I wanted to answer the question today. Uh, like I, I went for a run a couple of weeks ago and I wore my make Canada [00:24:00] great again hat that I got made in New York city. So I was going to see if we could answer today the question.

If you were prime minister, how would you make Canada great again? But we'll do that next week. Okay. Um,

Gary: quota, like quota is the license for those that are from America. They probably heard of it maybe, but it's basically the license in chickens and dairy in Canada. Dairy is the only one that gets in trouble. It's total BS. They never come after the chicken guys. It's always after the dairy cartel, right? The Quebec dairy cartel.

And I, I follow guys on Twitter that are like, you know, total free market guys. They can't stand quota supply management, but, um, it's interesting to me because. I think I would love to even just do a class on it, like outside of the podcast, but just do like a night where I'm like, I'll explain dairy quota in British Columbia, how it works, how much money it costs.

Um, it'll get people rather than it's, I mean, there was a, somebody in the past that said, you know, democracy is, you know, the best of the worst systems of, you know, [00:25:00] politically. Right. And I mean, quota is, I look at supply management a little bit like that, especially in our country. Like I think the further you in more populated areas, I think you have less.

If quota,

Kyle: if it would have been free market from the existence of Canada's conception, well, how,

Gary: what would it be different? What would be different? Uh, there would be a, there's already way less farms all the time, but there would be very few dairy farms, like very few. And I think people don't like the, so what happens is in, especially in something with animals, large amounts of animals, it's inevitable anyways, it is going to happen.

Even with quota, there will just be less and less farms as, as, as. Time carries on, but people have a problem. Some people have a problem with, let's just say in BC, there was 10 farms instead of 300 or 400 dairies. Like, first of all, if one of those farms has a barn fire and all the cows, like that's a problem.

Kyle: Yeah.

Gary: If one of them gets a sickness or disease, that's a problem. So like there's benefits of just having a few more. And I think the idea of corporate farming and how animals are cared for, people [00:26:00] like the idea of family farms. Right. And now, of course, as we. As that changes, I, in Canada in particular, it's still very much the family farm, like.

Kyle: So if it wouldn't have been there from the beginning, you would have way less farms? Way less farms. And would the price of milk be different? No,

Gary: it would not be. And that's the part where I, like, I'm a free market guy, but I will guarantee you, if we ever do away with quota, milk may initially drop a tiny bit, but it will not get any cheaper.

Okay, so where is that money going then? Now?

Kyle: Yeah.

Gary: Um, processors are always going to make margin. And like. Other than the price of quota, that's the only piece really, especially now, because in years past dairy farms were inefficient and proportionately we got way more margin. Like even when I started in 2011 milking cows, we got way more margin, like way more, like we're down probably 12, 13 percent gross margin, at least from when I started.

Oh, wow. That's a lot. That's a lot. That makes a huge difference. It makes a huge difference. Like it's way tougher farming now. And so, and I don't think that's going to change. I think it's only going to get tighter and people that are inefficient or people that are. Two over leverage will get [00:27:00] flushed out.

That's just the way it's going to be. I, and I think that in the U S what they're having now is that they have quota like we do almost everywhere. Like in, at least on the West side of the country, the States that I know of, like Idaho, Washington, Oregon, um, they all shipped to Dairy Gold, most of the producers and the co op, which is Dairy Gold, they, they have, it's called base and they're only allowed to ship so much milk.

Kyle: Okay.

Gary: And it had a value, like it has no value right now because. They have serious issues with their processor and a whole bunch, I could go on a long rabbit trail about that too. But they have, they have cost overruns on a new plant they're building, so they, they're just, you can ship as much milk as you want.

Yeah, so I guess what I'm saying is like, people always grab one side of it and think, and there again, I would agree. Like the price of quota is, is an issue, but there's no way to deviate from that. And the price, and when

Kyle: quota got made or invented or whatever it was. It had very little value. It had no value.

Very little. Very little. They should have capped it then, the value of it.

Gary: They try to cap it now. It's funny. We capped it and beat. We put a soft. Our [00:28:00] province put a soft cap on the price of quota because it looks very poor to the consumer when the price of quota is really high. Nobody wants to hear what costs 40 or 50, 000 a cow for the license to produce the milk because anybody with half a brain says, Hey, that means my milk is costing too much.

Like, you know, that's just so that that's the downside, right? Um, but ultimately, yeah. You know, I always use the argument in New York city, you have to buy a taxi cab license for a million dollars. Like nobody got nobody, like, I guess Uber came along and destroyed the whole model, but it was just the idea of like, Hey, there's other areas fishing.

There's all kinds of things in BC that are controlled and regulated. Right. So. Okay. I'm a cowed out. Too much farm talk, just the tip of the iceberg. We're going to start talking about the next segment. We'll talk about HPA, IA, it's a, uh, I think I said it wrong, but the bird flu is coming. Okay. Have you heard about it in California, wiping cows

Kyle: out?

Uh, no, I see avian bird flu and call birds on my notes here.

Gary: Yes.

Kyle: Yeah. We'll talk about it next, next time. Okay. We're going to rack to two reels. [00:29:00]

Gary: Oh, we're still going. We're still going to rack to two

Gary: and then we'll go to overtime. Oh man, the reels.

Kyle: God, I like to decorate the character. A

Speaker: lot of religious people who are highly dogmatic are the ones hiding their secret lives. People who don't want you to see them will choose churches that only talk about doctrine because it never talks about them. You'd have to deal with you and your life and your heart.

Some people go why don't you speak on doctrine while they're having an affair or they're cheating in their business. Dogma is a great way to hide your brokenness. Great reel. What do you think? Back

Gary: here. How? Like, how do you see it? I think that, um, and it's always my concern, even in our church, it's like, we do not want to become [00:30:00] legalistic.

And I mean, I don't totally agree with it. I, I think any, there again, you can take the extremes and you can say, Oh.

Kyle: Painting over the wrong brush.

Gary: Yeah. It's like, Oh, they're into the doctrine. Like, no, that's not true. And doctrine does matter, right? Like, like what you believe matters. Um, The problem is if that is what you are focused on, like nowhere in the Bible does it say the greatest command is to make sure that your doctrine, it's important that the doctrine is accurate.

And if you're in the Bible, your doctrine will be accurate. If you're spending a lot of time there, you should be pretty close to where you should be. Um, it is interesting how as human beings, we just find weird things to hyper focus on. So that's even my concern sometimes. And what about his

Kyle: idea of like hiding behind it?

Like that you're just like really strict on like, like on your doctrines and stuff like that and you use it as like a shield not to be open.

Gary: I, I could see that because I know people that in my life that I'm very close to that are very comfortable as long as they're talking about peripheral things. So I, I wouldn't even say necessarily doctrine, but anything that's exterior, like.

Kyle: did myself before I was a Christian, I could [00:31:00] debate doctrine all day long. remember being like piss drunk in a hot tub debating, um, Calvinism with somebody, you know, like I didn't, I didn't care about Jesus at all. I just like, I just wanted to be right.

Gary: Just wanted to be right, yeah, yeah, so it's

Kyle: pretty dangerous.

But I also think it's, it also shows up, I was talking to a guy yesterday and he said that, um, we were talking about how he grew up was that sin was never defined. In his church, and so the people that were saved they never talked about their sin they talked about like they felt bad about their sin, or they like said like they felt their misery and from the Preacher would say like Do you feel your sin?

Do you feel bad? You've sinned so forget, but it was never it was never defined What is it? And so it was never like, you know, I love money too much It was never like I look at porn it was never You know, like I get angry, which is

Gary: interesting because in most, in those, in a church like that, they would have for sure read the commandments every Sunday, but nobody would ever [00:32:00] explicitly dictate how they had broken the commandment.

Kyle: Yes. And, and to find them themselves. So you would get this idea that the Christians, the people that would attend communion and stuff like that in the church would have it all together because they would never talk about. their sin explicitly what it actually was. Like in the Bible, it does, right? You talk about, see the sin of like, um, David and Paul and, uh, Noah and, you know, all these guys, it explicitly talks about their sin and, and shows that they were broken men that needed Jesus.

But it was never, in the discussion of this guy, it was never talked about. So you never really. When you thought about being a Christian yourself, you get this idea that you need to be perfect because you never associate what the Christian with also being a sinner, like the whole, the whole point of it.

Um, and I think that's really important, um, to define it and especially define it in the sense of like, Not loving Jesus is the sin of all sins, like, um, not believing in him is the ultimate sin. It's not, you know, when you get taught that, you know, you have to, [00:33:00] you know, other maybe Christian things that you can debate, let's say, assuming they're correct, like, or secondary issues.

Secondary issues. Like if that's all gets talked about of being a Christian of like certain music you listen to or what you do on Sundays, or, you know, like if you. TV or whatever, how you dress. I always say in our house, we have a

Gary: saying and it's always like, we need to be careful that we don't put behavior modification above heart transformation.

And it's just human nature for me too. And I hate, I can't stand it when I do, I do it all the time with my kids. I'm like, Oh, here I am just trying to browbeat them into like doing the right things. No, like I want my kids heart to be in the right spot and eventually maybe not after 10 or six or five and whatever, and maybe not ever under my watch, but it's like, Hey, if their heart.

Is following the Lord, they're eventually their behavior, they will be convicted in their behavioral fall. Right. And so to like just stiff arm your kids. And like I say, I do it all the time. Speaking of areas where I struggle, it's like, I just, man, do the right thing. Look the right way. It's like, so we do that at the church level too.

Right. And some whole denominations are probably have a [00:34:00] bent that way on all areas of the spectrum. Like when you talk about doctrine. Like I'm thinking even of the conversations I've had with people in our circles now, where it's like total secondary things, like end time stuff. There again, people come unhinged on that cause it's like, no, it's not a secondary issue.

Yeah. Well, it's not a salvation issue. We can disagree on the end times and still agree on the fundamentals of our faith. Right. So I think that's where, I think I went on the rant a couple of weeks ago about the, the whole like, you know, our childhood and how we were brought up and kind of, but I think that's where even now I see it in my circles where people.

They just hyper focus on those things. And I'm like, whoa, whoa, whoa, you're missing it. So that was a good. So

Kyle: in this discussion, this guy was saying that sin was actually not preached about growing up. Like say, hearing the things of like, you need to know your sin. We, he would heard that. But practical examples of sin weren't.

Yeah. And also that sin is not loving Jesus. It's not like, you know, watching TV or whatever, whatever the thing is. Like that's not sin. Sin is like, and that, that was never clear to define. So then you can also can't be [00:35:00] convicted, right? You can't. Um, you know, like what, if you allow, like if there's a church that allows their members or people to become members when they're not Christians, when they're not saved, well, you're giving them a false comfort that they're Christians now, you know, let them baptize their kids when they're not saved.

You're giving them a false comfort. I, it wasn't until I was 21 that I realized I wasn't a Christian when someone asked me, like, are you Christian? I said, yeah. And he's like, when did you get saved? Yeah. That's because we had the three camps. But yeah. So I, I thought it, I thought it was, uh, interesting. Okay, next reel.

It makes me cry each time I talk

Speaker: about it. A friend of mine told, she told me that the week before she had a really, really hard week. And I said, why didn't you call me? She says, I did. I, I reached out. So of course I pull up my phone and I scroll up and I look for her text, and [00:36:00] sure enough, it says, Hey, what are you doing?

Wanna come over? I'm like, I'm like, you mean these texts? The one that sound like every other text you've ever sent me, ever? I'm like, how do I know that that's a cry for help? She had read an article that all human beings need is eight minutes of time from another friend to feel not alone in a moment of stress, in a moment of need.

And so she and I came up with a code word that the next time one of us really needs the other person, our code would be, do you have eight minutes? Anyone can step out of a meeting for eight minutes. You won't solve your friend's problems. It only takes eight minutes for them to feel like they're dealing with it, but they're dealing not alone.

And this is the power of friendship.

Kyle: TikTok. I thought they're banned.

They got banned for like a day and then they're jumping back on. What do you think? I mean, I think it's, I think it's, [00:37:00] uh, I think it's really good. People just need to be heard and need connection. Like that's the biggest thing, not being alone. And it doesn't take a lot. Um, yesterday I went to the, um, The evening that, uh, Central put on for, uh, Courageous Evangelism.

Okay. There's three different, um, evenings that they're putting on and teaching on it. So I was gone last week, but I went to last night's, uh, one of the things they were explaining was to ask questions and then to listen. And to pause and to wait and to not be too quick to feel like you have to come up with the answer.

Feel in the gap or whatever else like that. But just to listen, to hear someone out and help them feel heard. And so they're not alone and how that's so crucial in evangelism and it's, they actually teach it in coaching as well. The skill of listening and, and uh, um, yeah, I think it's, I think it's not hard to do.

Often people just need, um, you know, to be heard out and to pray, be prayed for or just encouraged. Yeah. Yeah.

Gary: Yeah. Unfortunately, if you're not doing well, you don't typically want to [00:38:00] be the person that messages and says, I'm not doing well. Right. You think that you're bothering people or so when really most people want to be helpful.

Most people, if they think that they could actually encourage somebody, they'd be happy to take the time. Right. So it's just, I still put the onus mostly on the people that are struggling, but unfortunately when you're in that spot struggling, it's pretty hard to say, Hey, I'm struggling. So. Yeah. Any struggles in your last three weeks?

Any struggles? Yeah. I mean, they didn't call anybody. No, I mean, I'm just like immersed in communication. That's why. So I can, if I play the tape back 20 years, I was like that, right? I was, I felt alone. I was by myself. I was dying inside, looked at myself in the mirror and hated myself. So, I mean, it's just when you're so far removed from that and you feel relatively, relatively stable.

Yeah. Um, it's sometimes hard to identify, but I know just from the people that I talk to that are. Doing the wrong things. Now it's always about just being isolated and secretive and just, yeah, not being in great community. Right. Which means they don't value themselves. No, but I mean, you can't, [00:39:00] yeah, you can't, that's a journey, right?

Like you don't just all of a sudden one day decide to be like, Oh, like I have this self worth, right?

Kyle: No, of course not. I'm just saying that that's like, that's, that's a big issue, right? Like it's how you yourself, it's interesting. I did my shield inventory this week for freedom session, which is writing how you've heard others, how you've heard others, terrible exercise, very, it was very already just running it up many times now, but.

Um, for the first time though, there was two things I didn't put on there that I'd never put on it before was my, I put myself down. And, and how much I've hurt myself for the years by just being reckless and bad choices and stuff like that, which came down to not valuing myself, right? When you really value something, you take good care of it, you care for it, take good care for it.

You know, if you really value your kids, you'll take care of them. You'll spend time with it or yourself. And, uh, and so I, I.

Gary: That's how I knew I didn't care for myself when I was younger, cause I drank six cans of Coke and smoked two packs cigarette a day That's about all I had for probably a good five years.

So yeah,

Kyle: it's a picture of [00:40:00] hell. It reminded me, I was working with a guy and he showed me, um, the. He had a whole bunch of machines, um, CNC machines. And he was showing me the water filters that he had for the water going to these machines. So everything was just perfect. And, uh, and I was thinking about it later about like the stuff that we drink and eat and do to our bodies and where our bodies and machines and like expect them to run on like good fuel.

It's

Gary: amazing how much abuse the body can take. That's, even for me, I go downtown and you see the people like just pounding back the fentanyl and the, and living on like slushies and like literally no nutrition. And still it's, it's bizarre the abuse that the human body

Kyle: can take. Then I do a hundred, uh, a thousand kilometers in a year, run a thousand kilometers in a year.

Gary: Okay.

Kyle: So I've been running a whole bunch. And, uh. Don't you find it hard on your knees? It's hard on everything. Like, like I can barely walk. I'm a lower back. I'm trying to do stretches all the time. And like, I'm hoping, uh, my body keeps going. Okay. Anyways, [00:41:00] feels like it's been a long podcast. Uh, yeah, it's a little longer than usual, but it's fine.
