Welcome back to another episode of Briefcase in the Barn, episode 102. Happy Canada Day. Gary's back. We're recording a little later than usual, usually Tuesday afternoons. Today we're Friday afternoon, 'cause Gary went to court this week.

GARY: Yeah, yesterday. I was in court all day. Long day at court.

KYLE: For?

GARY: Uh, court ordered sale.

Purchase of a court ordered sale property. Very unique experience.

KYLE: And you as the realtor have to be there?

GARY: [00:06:00] Yes.

KYLE: Okay.

GARY: Yeah. Yeah, with my clients. And, uh, I came from there, I mean, frustrated because actually... So basically what happens, you get there, your court time's 9:45 in the morning, and there's 30 people's names on the list that need to be, uh, need to have their situation dealt with, whatever it was.

And it wasn't just court ordered sales for properties, it was like legal disputes between ex-husband and wife- Wow ... on agreements for women wanting to take their child on a holiday, and the dad saying, "You're not allowed to take him 'cause there's such and such a family member coming along, and I don't trust that guy."

And they're, like, deciding these things in front of us. Like, it's just carnage, right? It was really sad. Um, other people, like, had sold their house in a divorce sale, and the one person wanted more money out of the sale, and the judge is making a decision on that, so both lawyers are arguing the case. And, um, it just, my own thought out of that was just like, hey, when things are not done how they're supposed to be done, it's really painful.

KYLE: Yeah.

GARY: And also, people are real hair splitters.

KYLE: Yes. Like- People wanna, people can't let [00:07:00] go of things.

GARY: People can't let go. People, people don't realize that justice will never be done on this earth. Yes. If you are looking for fairness here, first of all, you can't do fairness yourself. Nobody's humanly capable of doing fairness themselves, and, and it's just not gonna happen.

And so you, you know... Um, I read something the other day, um, and, and listened to a sermon as well about, like, just forgiving your enemies, and, like, we're called to forgive our enemies, let alone our ex-wife or our husband- Pr- pray for them ... or... Yeah, and pray for them. And love them. And love them. And it's like, we just literally don't live that way.

Right. We, we act like we're... Anyways, it, it was... So I came out of there feeling super grateful, um, for my wife and for my family and for the friends I have, and the people that would challenge me if I was being, sticking it to my ex-wife or whatever. Yeah. Um, and then the other thought was, so the guy who was being foreclosed on the property, it's a Chilliwack property actually, um, owed the strata money.

KYLE: Right.

GARY: And, um, not a lot. Like, it, I don't even know exactly how much 'cause they, I don't think they said the exact numbers. But, you know, and they owe the legal fees for [00:08:00] the strata and everything. Yeah. But basically he hadn't been paying strata fees, and he had no mortgage on his property by the sounds of it.

KYLE: He had no mortgage on his property, but he got foreclosed on.

GARY: Yes, but he got foreclosed on. Not that common. Very rare, actually.

KYLE: Because he didn't pay stratas fees? '

GARY: Cause he did not pay his stratas fees.

KYLE: And you can get foreclosed on for that reason?

GARY: Oh, yes. Yes.

KYLE: And but it wasn't even that money

GARY: stratas fees.

And it took a long... It was, like, 14 grand, and it took years. Like, it was this, this process started three years ago.

KYLE: And so he was forced out of his own home for 14 grand?

GARY: It's not a home. It was a commercial building. Okay. Which is even more complicated, but he's living in the building. And, like, you couldn't walk in the building, like, he was a hoarder.

So the stuff, like, was to the ceiling, of collectibles and some fancy stuff, some garbage, but mostly actually pretty decent stuff.

KYLE: And did it come out why he wasn't paying his strata?

GARY: Uh, well, I know why, 'cause I met the guy.

KYLE: Oh.

GARY: Uh, just, um, just a real character. Same way someone described me, just- ... different line of, different line of thinking.

But yeah, just a real piece of work. When I was at his place- Did he [00:09:00] not have the

KYLE: money, or he didn't

GARY: w- No, he definitely did not have the money. When he was at the... Although, it's hard to even say. It's almost- How do you

KYLE: own a big commercial property?

GARY: Ah, it wasn't, it's not worth a huge amount of money. But, um, that was a whole part of the story, of what the value was.

Like, because basically, and this is, people that are listening to this should realize this. What- whatever your BC Assessment says for your property, that's not what your place is worth.

KYLE: Yeah.

GARY: Might be. Like, it could be, but it's quite likely not, especially in the market we're in now.

KYLE: Yeah.

GARY: So his BC Assessment was 750,000 for this commercial unit.

Like, whatever, I can't remember how many square feet. Roughly 1,800 or something. Then the, um, the purchase, the accepted offer price. So basically what happens at the court ordered sale, it's listed. Somebody comes in there, they tie it up at a certain price. In this case, it was 425,000. It's an accepted offer.

The person can have no subjects or subjects, just like a normal offer. Do all their due diligence, remove the subjects. Once the subjects are removed, and it's an accepted offer, then you set a court date to go to court. And once it's at court, everyone else can bring offers as well. Plus, the person that has the first offer, in this case, [00:10:00] could also come back and put another offer in.

So, and he's only in this- And it's a complete cra- and they're all sealed bids. It's a crapshoot. And

KYLE: it's only in this spot because he didn't pay 14 grand in stratas fees.

GARY: Yeah. Now, I saw the unit, and there's other issues. Like, he's doing all kinds of b- stuff there he shouldn't be doing. Okay. So there's lots of reasons why he could be in trouble, but it'd be very difficult to foreclose on somebody or, you know, evict somebody out of their unit- Yeah

based on them doing stuff for strata. But I guess

KYLE: if he has neighbors, so it's at, like, a row

GARY: of commercial units. Yeah, it's a row of commercial units. Okay. And any of the neighbors are getting- And he's a bad neighbor. Okay, yeah. So any people who- Yeah, people just sick of him. Oh, yeah. Yeah.

KYLE: Makes sense.

GARY: But he's- Like I say, I think, you know, he seemed like a very nice fellow and very friendly.

But I mean, he was, he's in some other legal sh- shenanigans as well- Mm ... which was talked about at court, even I think with exes and stuff. And, and so yeah, all that kinda got drug out to light, and he had piles of paperwork, and he was kinda d- he's very much a last minute fellow. And sometimes last minute's great, but most of the time it doesn't look great.

KYLE: Yeah.

GARY: It, it's just like, ah, you had a year to come with paperwork, and you finally show up today at court with your stack of papers to kinda justify your position. But- Yeah ... the judge, in every [00:11:00] case, like we, this situation was not heard first. There was quite a few before. And in every case she was, I don't wanna say a savage, 'cause that's really derogatory, but she was, uh, very precise.

She was borderline ruthless. Like, she was just decision, decision, decision.

KYLE: You have to.

GARY: Push... You have to. Like, you're, she's the judge, jury, and the executioner. A lot of power. It's pretty wild. Uh, but, and there's

KYLE: 80 people she

GARY: has to work with. Yeah, and she was trying to be very fair, but very pragmatic. I was super impressed.

I'm like, "Hey, this lady's a great judge." And for some reason, and, 'cause I heard her talk to, like, 15, 20 different people in the day. For some reason with this particular case, she got a bit gracious and gave him one week. Nobody else got time. No, nothing else got adjourned. One week to what? You got one week to come up with financing for the place.

To pay off- The owner ... yeah, to get a mortgage to pay off his strata fees.

KYLE: To get a mortgage to pay off his $14,000.

GARY: Yeah. '

KYLE: Cause he could just sell it himself priv- uh, l- like, just with a realtor himself and be, have f- well, 'cause you said it was gonna go for 400 roughly when it was worth 750?

GARY: Yeah, but he never even listed it.

But he could, he could. That's the kind of fellow he is. Okay. That's a great example. Like, he could have had it listed the entire time he was in the [00:12:00] foreclosure process. Yeah. Collected his shekels, paid off strata- Yeah ... but not of his unit. But I think he's pretty attached to the unit and wants to stay there, and-

KYLE: Mm

GARY: I mean, I could picture the amount of work just to move all the stuff out of there, like, probably quite a few Sea Cans worth of stuff, so.

KYLE: Yeah. Interesting.

GARY: Anyways, that was kinda the day. At the end of the day, it got adjourned twice throughout the day, like, to the a- after the morning break and then after lunch, every time for him to kinda find more paperwork and justify his position, and then came back in in the afternoon at 2:30 and said, "Oh yeah, we'll give you one week," and everybody just groaned, like, inwardly, like, "Are you serious?"

So. So

KYLE: you have to go back in a week.

GARY: Yeah. So that'll be interesting.

KYLE: Fun. Okay.

GARY: That was, uh, that was

GARY: I think the farming, like, I love farming talk, right? So anything about farming is interesting to me. Well,

GARY: Uh, why don't you tell me why we kiboshed it? No,

KYLE: I asked you.

GARY: Uh, we kiboshed it 'cause we couldn't agree on what the event would look like. Yeah. And we're both pretty stubborn, so I said, "Hey, we're just, if it can't be my way, it's the highway." So we took the highway.

KYLE: We took the highway. So it's just gonna happen, uh, at another time. Okay. Uh, either as a Beekman Auction summer social.

GARY: It'll have nothing to do with Beekman Auctions.

KYLE: Or whatever your c- one of your shindigs.

GARY: Whatever my idea of a...

KYLE: Yeah. But yeah. Um, yeah, so that's not happening, but it'll, uh, it'll happen at some point down the road, I'm sure. You got some, uh, good notes in here. Um Jail's not that bad other than you can't leave

The most interesting thing that happened this week, the biggest news in BC was what? What's the big news that came out? It's on there too.

KYLE: Uh, oh, it's that the federal government is gonna fund $3.4 billion in buying all the empty condos.

GARY: Yeah. Well, they're not gonna buy them all,

KYLE: but then- But then I see it, so read, read today that David Ebe, [00:14:00] BC's premier said it wasn't gonna go to the big developers.

It was gonna go to all the, like the small guys or something.

GARY: It's all BS.

KYLE: Doubt it.

GARY: Yeah. I think it was 1.4 billion.

KYLE: 1.4 billion? Okay.

GARY: And 10% of that's coming from the federal government, and the rest of it's coming from BC taxpayers. And there's a clip, uh, we could maybe drop this in the show notes. It's, I watched it on Twitter.

It's Gloria, I think it's Gloria Makarenko from the CBC, uh, interrogating the BC housing minister about this, and she is stuttering and stammering and has no clue what she's talking about. It's embarrassing.

KYLE: Oh.

GARY: It's embarrassing that she's in, uh- The BC finance and- ... charge of that fi- the housing minister.

KYLE: yeah,

GARY: yeah, yeah. Who's, who kinda would've been at the big s- Yeah. You know, and e- and even actually, I posted a, a article there from the National Post, but Mark Carney came out within two days and said, "We handled this rollout really poorly."

KYLE: Oh, he actually had said that out loud?

GARY: Yeah. He said it out loud.

He's not admitting that it's a bad idea yet. Yeah. But he's, he's admitting that the way they communicate, communicated was horrible. Well, housing

KYLE: prices are gonna go keep going down this route, this way.

GARY: Oh, everybody, everybody is not in favor of this. True [00:15:00] capitalists are like, "This is embarrassing." Like, why would we ever be giving, you know, free enterprise money people w-

KYLE: Yeah

GARY: lots of condos.

KYLE: It's like a

GARY: quota system almost. Yeah it's like very subliminal. It's

KYLE: terrible.

GARY: No, and the, on the other side, all the people that actually vote for these w- whack job political parties, they're, they're literally, they're not a fan of this either. They're, they, they haven't, they're no friends of big developers or anything like that.

So, so

KYLE: how does-

GARY: So why are they? How does it,

KYLE: how does it get to this point? If politically you know that this is gonna land

GARY: really badly- I think, I don't think they realized it would land as badly as they did. They are doing a lot of damage control. No, I'm, they're very, they're, politicians are- You gotta be so stupid

no, they are not that smart, Matt. They are not that smart. If you listen to, watch this lady try to explain this.

KYLE: Yeah, I mean,

GARY: I- It is common sense that if you were... The reason it's actually way worse, the wor- the worst thing about it, is that the government's talking about trying to manage it. Like, if the government, this is, this is how I feel.

If the government had said, "Hey, we're cutting a check for 1.4 billion, and we're just randomly applying it," or not randomly, but we're just gonna give it pro rata to every single developer from Vancouver that has unsold condos percentage wise on how many units they have available. We're [00:16:00] just gonna give them the money, but in turn they have to decrease the price of those units by 10 or 20% instantly by all their units and lower the cost.

I could live with that.

KYLE: Yeah.

GARY: That would be horrible, but, but at least then it would be clean. Now what they'll do is they'll take our taxpayer money, it'll go to this nebulous dark hole managed by the government. Some units will get bought. They'll get probably homeless people or other nefarious, like, people that shouldn't even be buying places, don't have the capacity to own a property, living in these places, wrecking other neighborhoods for people that busted their ass to save money to buy this overpriced crap.

And it'll just be this situation where like, all of a sudden we're, uh- Yeah, it's just it'll be horribly run. Like, the government does not run anything better than what free enterprise runs it. So to think that they're gonna take 1.4 billion of taxpayer dollars that we'll all be paying interest on going forward, it's, it's insanity.

Anyways, I digress.

KYLE: Not fun.

GARY: No. And it's, the, in the comments, Eric, if you go to social media, you can tell there's nobody supporting it basically, other than the politicians that [00:17:00] brought it out. So they are, they are for sure, I would assume they are in a very

KYLE: bad position. You don't think there's some, like, big, big, big developers that, that have strong connections

GARY: politically that- Well, of course they're, that's who's getting the money.

That would be who would be getting the money ...

KYLE: that are backdoored.

GARY: Oh, that's who's getting the money. Right. But I'm saying even if that's the case, a lot of, it, it won't get doled out properly.

KYLE: No, no.

GARY: Like, if you see how money works when it flows from government, like they mean to do well. Like, it's not as if they start out saying, "Hey, we're gonna do this wrong."

It's just you have a bunch of employees. It'll, there'll be processes, paperwork. It'll, there'll be loopholes. People that are creative and borderline dishonest will benefit. Government, people work 9:00 to 5:00 in the government. They, they, they consider it a job. They, they're not... They don't look at it as their money- No.

Yeah ... that they're giving away, right? It's, it's

KYLE: terrible.

GARY: It's, it's gonna be done horribly. And-

KYLE: That's what I g- I think it's- Everybody's arguing. Sorry. I said, I said to someone last week, there should be a rule in government that you have to have, like, 15 years in the private sector, uh, uh, before you can work in government or something, just to get some understanding that, hey- Of what money-

money in, money out. Yeah. Like-

GARY: Money in, money out. Yeah ... [00:18:00]

KYLE: you're gonna... Oh, frick. It's so frustrating.

GARY: Yeah, yeah. So I think what'll happen now, I don't know if they'll do a full rug pull on it. It's possible that they just completely deviate, right? That they would just realize that this is horrible for- Mm. Um, it's interesting that Mark Carney announced it, but they're only giving 10% of the money.

I think people very quickly realized it's all BC money, so BC people are getting pretty fired up about it. I

KYLE: had no idea. Sorry? I had no idea that there was, that it was 10% federal and 90%

GARY: BC.

KYLE: Okay. Yeah.

GARY: Yeah, yeah. Of course, Mark Carney probably thought, "Hey, I'll, we'll spearhead the idea." They did a project that's probably a lot better in Ontario.

I think it was more of a tax break. Mm. Like, there again, that makes sense. Let's, let's incentivize guys to lower their prices and maybe- Yeah ... get rid of some of the tax, but when we start buying it, like, the government owning anything is, is an unmitigated disaster.

KYLE: Yeah. It reminds me of that, um, that huge new bridge that they built in Ontario to go across the s- the border to, uh, United States that just is, Canada paid for that trump- The Gordie

GARY: Howe Bridge?

KYLE: Yeah, that trump- That he's

GARY: blocking.

KYLE: It's just, like, I don't know. I, I, I thought it was open, [00:19:00] but it's still closed. But how is it closed though? Maybe

GARY: find in- find info about it, 'cause it's, it's an interesting story. I saw somebody post about it the other day, and I never went down the rabbit hole 'cause it's not things that get me fired up.

But yeah, it looked like, uh, I don't know if it was a, just a, a strong arm political ploy. But with the housing thing, I feel like everyone kn- like, no one, most people that own homes obviously don't want their homes to crack by 25, 30%. And the thing is, sorry- If they're

KYLE: gonna stay in them long term,

GARY: like- Why would you care?

KYLE: Why, why, yeah.

GARY: Yeah. And I guess I look at it, and there again, I, I probably am a person that's allowed to qualify to comment 'cause I do own, uh, real estate. I look at it, like, I look at our children, I look at the health of our society, of people being... Like, it's healthy if people can have the dream of young people can work towards.

Yeah. You know, and there again, we live in a utopia where everybody thinks that they should be able to buy a single family expensive home or whatever, you know, on their first house. That, maybe that's not realistic. Yeah. But everybody should be able to own real estate if they're working really hard and, and have a decent job, right, in our community.

And we've deviated from [00:20:00] that in the spike of '22. What you're seeing now in real estate- Every single day is a house get listed that was bought literally in the last 12 months to 18 months or two years, and they're all selling for less.

KYLE: All selling, okay.

GARY: So it's, it's, it's a general trend, and I don't think this $1.5 billion would touch the housing prices, in my opinion.

Maybe I'm naive. It's not,

KYLE: not even close enough money, you mean?

GARY: No, I think that there's so much carnage, there's so much bloodletting every day in- Yeah ... in the, in the world. If you looked at the foreclosures on the ... I think I checked on the commercial side the other night, like on, in BC, and there's, there'd be billions of dollars just in commercial foreclosures, let alone.

Like, real estate has gotten so out of control, the valuations.

KYLE: So is there, are there- Because our money is devalued so much ... if it keeps consistently trending that way and the foreclosures keep going up, is there a lot of economists saying that, "Hey, this is, uh, gonna get darker"?

GARY: Before it gets better.

KYLE: But faster than, than, than, than, uh, later?

Like, is it coming ... 'Cause it seems like we've been talking about a recession for quite a while, and it [00:21:00] just- It's- ... it's not really, like, it, everything's just tighter, everything's more expensive, but everything kinda still-

GARY: It's sticky. It's sticky. I th- it feels to me, from what I see, is that, and a good example is people don't lay people off in a business even if they're, even if they're- Mm

they're eating losses for a season, right? Like, a lot of great business owners in our community, I'm sure there's people that listen to this podcast that are in businesses like that.

KYLE: Yeah.

GARY: Where the tariffs, I can think of a company actually locally here that the tariffs have really affected. The, you know, the employers there, the people that own these businesses, they're gonna eat a lot of those losses for a long time before they're gonna lay off a 20-year phenomenal employee.

But at some point, people are just like, "Hey."

KYLE: Can't. "

GARY: We're not selling any more lumber," or, "We're not selling the steel," or, "We're not selling the siding." And you can just see everything grinding to a halt. Or grind- not to a halt. Yeah. But, you know, just slowing down so substantially.

KYLE: Instead, we should just lay off 90% of the government.

GARY: Well, at least it's not 90%, but yeah, 25, 30, well, 40% more government has been hired at the federal level, I think, in the last decade, so start there, right?

KYLE: Yeah.

GARY: It's, yeah, it's hard to say what'll happen.

KYLE: Interesting. On the note of, uh, [00:22:00] um, like where this money's actually going and the dark hole, I got a text from a buddy this week, and he said, um, "I want a flip phone.

One day all our phones will be hacked and all, and all will know of our business and private conversations. Jesus already does, we better remember that. Your sins will find you out." Which is true, apparently. I've read it on, about AI as well, like as it advances that it will have basically like nothing, a lot won't be private anymore.

Um, but it will, uh, also find out, you know, what the government's doing.

GARY: When we agree to use ChatGPT and all these, uh, chatbots, is that information, do they, do they have access to

KYLE: that? I believe there's a, I believe there's a setting you can turn on and off, and I believe, uh, some have, if you pay, do a paid version, it's not collected, and if you do a-

a not paid version- Actually ... it is collected. But I don't believe that-

GARY: Even if you pay, it's still collected ...

KYLE: it, everything's collected.

GARY: So they're finding a lot of interesting stuff. Yeah. They know so much about

KYLE: you.

GARY: Everything. Who owns, who owns ChatGPT? Is it OpenAI?

KYLE: Yeah.

GARY: And who owns OpenAI? Is that Sam, uh, Altman's company?

KYLE: Uh, he is the [00:23:00]

GARY: CEO. Okay.

KYLE: Yeah.

GARY: Okay.

KYLE: Yeah.

GARY: On Business Wars, there's an interesting pod- It's one of my favorite podcasts is Business Wars, and there's an interesting series on between, uh-

KYLE: Elon

GARY: Musk and- ... Elon Musk and- Yeah ... Sam Altman. 'Cause they started it together. 'Cause they were together,

KYLE: yeah. Yeah, yeah. 'Cause, yeah, E- Elon thought he was going the, the wrong way on, on that.

GARY: He's, he's pretty self-righteous, Elon Musk, isn't he? So he's putting, painting himself as the savior of the world. It's funny.

KYLE: Seems like he's a human. Yeah. Um, but yeah. Anyway, so I, I thought that was interesting, uh, uh, 'cause like, uh, the l- the Bible o- obviously talks about it pretty directly. It says, Luke 8:17, "For all that is secret will eventually be brought into the open, and everything that is concealed will be brought to light and made known to all."

So guys, whatever you're doing, it's gonna come out. Might as well just do free- freedom session and just get it out all right away.

KYLE: You got some, uh, a note about tithing. Malachi

GARY: That's from a long time ago. Can't talk about that today.

KYLE: But any old notes that Gary puts in-

GARY: No, no, I can talk about that one, just not at the moment. I'm not in a headspace to talk about it at the moment. Okay. What are

KYLE: you in a headspace to talk about?

GARY: Well, the tithing thing, I just, the thing I was, I was just curious if tithing, is tithing a very common concept?

Like, did you grow up with tithing or

KYLE: no?

GARY: No.

KYLE: No? No. I got, my sister introduced me to tithing probably when [00:25:00] I was 22,

GARY: 23. Was tithing not preached? Like, the idea of giving a tenth of what you make?

KYLE: No.

GARY: No?

KYLE: No.

GARY: How was giving preached and

KYLE: presented? It wa- giving wasn't really ever talked about from the pulpit.

It was more just like they described what they were collecting money for, uh, on- But

GARY: how was generosity or the idea of, was sacrificial giving talked about or-

KYLE: No ...

GARY: talking about... Are you sure?

KYLE: Oh, no. I, I should say, not that I remember at all, but it was very minimal focus on there. Okay. 'Cause I remember it was Randy Alcorn's book, Money, Possessions, and Eternity, that my sister read when I was 22, whatever, and she started talking to me about tithing, and I remember having discussions with my parents about it as well and, um- Okay

yeah, it wasn't, yeah, talked about a lot. Yeah.

GARY: Okay.

KYLE: Yeah. Which I wonder why, uh, maybe one, uh, uh, like now, uh, at C- Central they ask, they share the different ways you can give every single Sunday, um, five different ways. And, uh, uh, maybe, and I've always had some discomfort around that. I just thought, I don't know, just don't know why it does, it makes me uncomfortable, but [00:26:00] maybe it's because I never grew up with it at all.

GARY: Ah, it's 'cause we, you know, the, you'd have the whole verses about the left hand and the right hand and, but I mean, that's more just, hey, you just don't need to publicly be- Yeah, show it off ... telling people how much you're giving. Just quietly give generously.

KYLE: Right. I really like though that, uh, like the pastors don't know how much people give.

Only like one or two people know- Yeah ... from what I understand. Yeah. Which I think is super healthy.

GARY: Yes, that would be very problematic. And it, you can, I hear it all the time in all kinds of organizations, not just churches, but when people, when people in positions of authority or even just people that are staff and know how much other people give, it totally changes how they treat people, and that's- Yeah

really bad.

KYLE: Yeah.

GARY: Ideally, everybody's treated exactly the same irregardless of whether they... And the thing is, people that give small amounts often are giving actually way more sacrificially than people that are giving- Yeah ... large amounts. The large amount givers, that, and not, there again, that's paint brushing.

There's obviously people that give a lot, um, that are very generous, but like sacrificial giving is kind of the-

KYLE: It hurts ...

GARY: it hurts, right?

KYLE: So- Or it's not sacrifice.

GARY: Yeah.

KYLE: Yeah. Okay. [00:27:00] Um, interesting, uh-

Um, I was thinking, uh, I was, uh, reading at the supper table this week, uh, a little piece. I always read a little piece at the end of dinner- Mm-hmm ... and I, and I try to explain it. So I read from Matthew 7, um, talking about, um, the, a good fruit, uh, and will produce the different kind of fruit. Or good fruit will...

A good tree will produce good fruit, and a bad tree will produce ba- bad fruit. And, uh, I found it interesting reading it because it reminded me so much of my coaching, which was from... I got coached by Kim Addis, and she was a secular coach, and there was no one in my life up until that point that had so obviously pointed out your actions show what you believe, not your words.

I had this, like, dichotomy of, like, you can say that you believe this, but you can act differently, and you actually still believe those things. You just, like, maybe suck at carrying it out. But- Yeah ... she's like, "That's not the definition of belief." Like, that's the definition of maybe what you believe you're supposed to believe, um, for whatever reason, but you don't actually, a- [00:28:00] actually think so.

Um, and so she... I mean, I remember, like, I, I think I've shared it before, but like in week two of the program she asked me, "What's most important to you in, in order?" And I said, "God, and then family, then work." And she's- then in week six she goes, "Kyle, I think that's bullshit. I think work's most important to you."

Mm-hmm. I'm like, "No, it's not. God is," 'cause that was the right answer. That's the answer you've memorized. That's who you share. She goes, "All you do is work. Your actions show what you believe, not your words." So, um, just don't bullshit yourself. Just be real. So this, this, uh, piece of Matthew 16 verse, uh, uh, Matthew 7:16-20, it says, "You can identify them by their fruit, that is, by the way they act."

And it, it's referring to, uh, um, sheep in wolf's clothing here, so, uh, false teachers. "Can you pick grapes from thorn bushes or figs from thistles? A good tree produces good fruit, and a bad tree produces bad fruit. A good fru- tree can't produce bad fruit, and a bad tree can't produce good fruit. So every tree that does not produce good fruit is chopped down and thrown into the fire.

Yes, just as you can identify a tree by its fruit, so you can identify people by their [00:29:00] actions." Which is most, I think, the fruits of the spirit. Would you agree with that?

GARY: Yeah, that's how you'd really... That'd be the, the real telltale sign, I guess.

KYLE: It wouldn't be like- Going to church twice and not having a TV

GARY: Uh, some of those things would be attached to it, but it'd be, it'd be more nuanced and complicated than that.

KYLE: No. Okay.

GARY: If people sat in front of the TV all the time, that would be a problem.

KYLE: That's true, yeah. I just thought it was interesting. I, I actually sent the screenshot to my coach, uh, after I read that, and I was like, "You taught me this." And she, th-this very, you know, basic concept, um, yeah, she really- Yeah

stuck it to me, so.

GARY: One of the things that I always say back, it's kind of back to the tithing, and maybe we could just end b- in a minute here by reading that, those verses. But, like, if you look at somebody's calendar and their wallet, you'll see exactly what their true priorities are in life- Yeah ... right?

Um, tithing. I read this, and I posted it in here, I guess, 'cause I just feel like... Yeah, I'll just read it first. [00:30:00] Uh, Malachi 3:8-12: "Should people cheat God? Yet you have cheated me. But you ask, 'What do you mean? When did we ever cheat you?' You have cheated me on the tithes and offerings due to me. You are under a curse, for your whole nation has been cheating me.

Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my temple. If you do, says the LORD of Heaven's Armies, I will open the windows of heavens for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won't have enough room to take it in. Try it. Put me to the test." Which is interesting, God saying, "Put me to the test."

"Your crops will be abundant, for I will guard them from insects and disease. Your grapes will not fall from the vine before they are ripe, says the LORD of Heaven's Armies. Then all nations will call you blessed, for your land will be such a delight, says the LORD." Um- And I guess I grew up, you know, spending a lot of time being taught Old Testament stuff, and I don't remember being taught that.

I don't ever, I don't remember being taught about ti- There again, I would definitely not say that doesn't mean we weren't taught it, but we were taught about a lot of doctrine- Yeah ... a lot of things. Yeah. But practically living as a Christian and what that would look like financially, like [00:31:00] finances were always-

KYLE: You don't talk about those.

GARY: Well, I was definitely left alone a lot more considering that, interestingly enough, it's probably been mentioned here, but Jesus talks about money literally more than anything else. Yeah. Why? 'Cause it's most of our idols. Not everybody's. Some people are not ruled by money in any way, but most people in my circle are, including myself.

Yeah. It's a horrible idol, right? And money is a bad God. So it was just interesting the idea of, and the other thing is, on the flip side, Randy Elko talks a lot about in his book, people, um, a lot of Christians today in evangelical circles in particular, just write off the Old Testament completely. They just spend all their time in the New Testament, which is really dangerous, too.

Um, and he talks about that. He talks about how actually tithing would be the base space. He talks about how in the New Testament church, people were selling their properties to kind of help out other people- Mm ... in their church, right? Which there again, us, we look at people like, "Oh, you just need to work harder."

You know? Yeah. And it's complicated. People have messy lives and a lot of- Yeah ... horrible things happen to them. Yeah. And so just the idea of caring for one another to that extent that we would give up what we have.

KYLE: I do think it comes first though, from like a changed heart. To be loved. Like you, you don't want it just to be a box-checking thing, 'cause [00:32:00] even the Pharisees, they tithe.

He, Jesus says, "You, you tithe a 10th of your mint gardens, but you, the heart is far from me," and you

GARY: don't- That's fair, but I would argue, Kyle, that if you think about, especially with money, like God says, "Put me to the test," I would challenge people that don't give at all, and I know a lot of people that literally really struggle with this 'cause it's-

KYLE: Yeah

GARY: they're obviously tight. Yeah. They're probably tighter than I am, but they're just, you know, people are tight. You be, you try it. You try-

KYLE: Yeah, to help.

GARY: You know what I mean? Your heart, you can have change. Your behaviors can stem something. They can, I don't know. I know what you're saying. It's, you don't wanna be, make it be about box checking, and now I've done my generosity thing.

But God would have an amazing way, I think, of working through that if you could just let loose a bit in the pocketbook, right?

KYLE: Yeah. Sometimes we need to do actions and desires will follow.

GARY: Yeah. I think a lot of the time.

KYLE: Yeah. But, um, yeah, I just think it can be like, "Okay, I've done, I've done it now. Like I'm good."

It's, it's more- Yeah ... it should be pos- from a position of like joyful giving, knowing this is all of God's money, and that we're, you know, it's not a, uh, if it's a reluctant thing 'cause [00:33:00] you have to, I, like I almost would wanna say like, "Don't give." Be careful. Yeah. Be careful. Like,

GARY: yeah.

KYLE: Um.

GARY: Yeah, God wants a cheerful giver, right?

Yeah. He says that in the

KYLE: Word as well. And he'll, he'll bless that, yeah.

GARY: Yeah.

KYLE: So what do you think about the fact that if he says here in this piece from Malachi that, um, if you do that you're gonna get a blessing in return, and you like won't have, uh, like- That's why I follow- You're gonna keep, keep,

GARY: keep

KYLE: your- That's why I follow Joel Osteen

insects and disease.

GARY: That's why I follow Joel Osteen. Big

GARY: Big Joel Osteen guy. No, I think that that could be misconstrued. Just to

KYLE: clarify, that's

GARY: sarcasm. I'm not, not a sarcasm, and I don't do sarcasm often, so when I say it, people are always like, "Oh, he means it." No. Um, I'm, I don't do the sar- But, uh- No, I think blessing looks very different than what we may think it is.

Yes. I don't think we have any clue what a blessing is. I think that we always assume we know what's best for us. My, you know, that's how I am. Yeah. I'm always thinking I know what I need and what I want.

KYLE: Yeah.

GARY: And often my life goes a different direction, and God knows best. Yeah. And so if I was praying for His will in my life, and that meant some hardships, that would, that could still be a blessing, and we don't live that way in our soci- society, right?

Yeah. We [00:34:00] assume wealth, prosperity, happiness, holidays.

KYLE: Yeah.

GARY: Everything comfortable. We think comfort means blessing, and that is a load of BS.

KYLE: Yeah. Yeah, there's a, a really good article, um, I can't pull it up right now, um, Undesiring God: What Does It Mean to Be Blessed?

GARY: Okay.

KYLE: Um, by Venitha Rentel Riser. I actually had her on my bo- podcast.

Um, but she talks in that article about how often her greatest blessings have been trials-

GARY: Okay ...

KYLE: and, and hardships that, you know, drove her into- Yeah. Um, yeah. "Unmet desires keep me on my knees and make me ransack the Bible for God's promises." Yeah. Yeah.

JULIUS: And it was kind of like, I'm just like, "This is so lame," just 'cause-

KYLE: Because it's not like the atmosphere?

with it being in Vancouver, and like knowing that I could-

KYLE: Yeah, sure. But it'd be like if Holland was playing ice hockey in the World Cup of ice hockey and they beat Canada, it'd be like, no, like, it's not okay.

JULIUS: Yeah, no, but yeah, super cool experience.

KYLE: You watch, you're watching a bunch of the games or not? Would the level of quality of soccer be [00:05:00] way, uh, as high or higher than the, the leagues in Europe, like the Champions League or-

JULIUS: No. So they say for hockey that, like, the highest level is when, like, Team Canada plays Team, Team US.

For soccer it would be flipped, where the, the Premier League teams and the Champions League teams, they're, they're so good that, um... And they're just so co- they're so well-coached- The

KYLE: chemistry ...

JULIUS: that-

KYLE: Yeah ...

JULIUS: yeah, that it just, it wouldn't reach that level here.

KYLE: That's almost always in a tournament too, though, right?

Like, they, if a team has good chemistry, then they're gonna-

JULIUS: But I would s- I would argue that it almost makes it better for watching because it's less like a chess game-

KYLE: Oh, yeah ...

JULIUS: and more just like-

KYLE: It's more natural.

JULIUS: More natural Yeah, and like the good players are like, it's more just about freedom and stuff, right?

KYLE: Creative, yeah, yeah.

JULIUS: Which-

KYLE: Yeah Uh, uh, David Booth told me that in ho- in hockey, uh, the first top two lines get to play a lot more free, or at least in how he played, and the- Okay ... bottom two lines kind of get told how to play by

JULIUS: the coach. 'Cause they're just for like specific like shutting something down or-

KYLE: Yeah, I [00:06:00] don't know exactly, but yeah, they just had like specific roles to play and how wanted them to play a certain way, but the, the better players got a longer leash, I guess.

JULIUS: Okay.

KYLE: Which makes sense.

JULIUS: Yeah. Huh.

KYLE: Um, you know what M2W2 Association is?

JULIUS: No idea.

KYLE: It's-- So I'm part of a, a group called BNI. It's a networking group.

JULIUS: Mm-hmm.

KYLE: And, um, they-- It's a, a charity organization that helps, um... What do you call that? Criminals, people that come out of jail, uh, get back into society. So there's two, two seats in the BNI group are, uh, charity seats, and so the guy that runs it, he's looking for a shop foreman because one of the things they do is they have a big, uh, wood shop, and then they get, um, uh, I guess the former inmates to work in it, and it's part of the re- rehabilitation program.

So anyway, they're looking for, um... This is what he told me to, uh, I told him I'd read a, an ad for that role, um, on, on the podcast here just [00:07:00] to help him out, so I'll read that now. KYLE: Yeah. There's gonna be like a commercial realtor and a residential realtor.

KYLE: Yeah, there's different groups. There's groups in Abbotsford. Okay. There's called BNI Peak. There's, I think there's probably like five or six BNI, BNI groups in the Lower Mainland.

JULIUS: Yeah. Makes sense. Hmm.

KYLE: Actually had another guy reach out to me recently, um, to, uh, work in a group that's not BNI, but, um, it's kind of level, level...

Uh, BNI is a lot of like, um-

JULIUS: What does BNI stand for?

KYLE: I have no [00:09:00] idea. Okay. Uh, but a lot of, there's like a lot of new businesses that go into BNI or, like, they don't have a lot of employees yet. Um, but this is, um, one, like companies that would have five to 10 employees and have been in business longer than five years.

And he's wanted to see if I wanted to chair one of those meetings. So you just basically facilitate a meeting-

JULIUS: Okay ...

KYLE: once a month for two hours.

JULIUS: So do you meet with your group once a month?

KYLE: Uh, every week.

JULIUS: Okay.

KYLE: Yeah.

JULIUS: In person?

KYLE: Once a month in person. Um, three times, e- every Wednesday morning at 6:30. Once a mo- first mon- first Wednesday of the month, it's in Abbotsford.

JULIUS: Okay. Okay, so you just all talk about your businesses and

KYLE: Everyone gives a 45-minute, um, update of what their business is doing or what they're looking for specifically. A

JULIUS: 45-minute?

KYLE: 45-second.

JULIUS: Oh, okay.

KYLE: 45-second, just like if they're looking, this is who I am, this is what I do, kind of just like communicating their avatar, who they're trying to, um, work with, whatever.

So you have ev- you have everything in there. You have dentists in there. [00:10:00] You have like-

JULIUS: Oh, wow ...

KYLE: like all kind of la- one lady makes signs, one's a pest control guy, like it's all those things like that. And then, um, they track all the referrals as well. So you need to make a certain amount of, um, uh, referrals they ask you to make.

Um, and, uh, but there's no, like, no money attached to the referrals or anything. It's more just they call it givers gain. You're just trying to find op- opportunities for, um-

JULIUS: Each other.

KYLE: Yeah.

JULIUS: Okay. Hmm.

KYLE: I think it, it doesn't really match my business that well, but it really helps service-based businesses a lot.

JULIUS: Yeah, it makes sense. Just, or even for a dentist, like it's just pretty easy to be like, "Hey, this dentist I know does really good work."

KYLE: Yeah. "

JULIUS: Go visit him."

KYLE: Yeah.

JULIUS: Um, well, yeah, your, your business would just be a bit different that way.

KYLE: Yeah. Yeah, so I can, I, I mean, I- it gives me a lot of people to [00:11:00] refer to in different things, like-

JULIUS: Well, I guess the recruiting would, would come in handy 'cause it's like all these businesses would need-

KYLE: No, 'cause the recruiting I do is m- a lot more for like leadership positions, like people that are probably making 100 grand or more.

JULIUS: Okay.

KYLE: And, and these are, um, those would be mostly entry-level positions.

JULIUS: Right. Hmm.

KYLE: So, yeah. Yeah, but it's, uh, I don't, I don't know if it's worth it or not. It's als- it's just nice to also s- you're, you're part of a, you have to do, uh, a one-on-one, one, four one-to-ones a month. Oh,

JULIUS: okay.

KYLE: Which is, uh, there's 40 members in the group, so you have to meet with, um, every one of them, or you, uh, yeah, you usually have to do four a month.

And, and they track that as well, but you get to meet some people you would otherwise never meet, and hear interesting stories, and- Yeah ... just different connections that way. So I, I really enjoy that part. Hmm. Yeah. How is, uh, re- uh, real estate going?

JULIUS: Um, yeah, I mean, I think I speak for most realtors when I say that it's not a, not a [00:12:00] booming market right now.

KYLE: What, like what, there's just less sales happening in total?

JULIUS: Um, yeah, just, just less, less sales happening. Um, lots of people s- trying to sell, um. Lot, so the- And, and places are selling, just a lot of overpriced stuff sitting on the market. Um, if a place isn't listed-

KYLE: Like, would the number of houses for sale today be just the same as three years ago except for they're just not selling?

JULIUS: Well, well, it would be more. Oh. Oh, well, three years ago, I don't know exactly, but definitely like more than like, say, like four or five years ago. Um-

KYLE: Oh, 'cause they

JULIUS: were able- Just because there's more, like more sitting on the market, right? The inventory is higher.

KYLE: Yeah.

JULIUS: Um, whereas back then, uh, in a hotter market, they sell quicker, so then you have less- Yeah.

Okay. Makes sense. Yeah ... on the market, right? I mean, I don't know the exact statistics right now, but- A

KYLE: lot, so you feel like there's a lot of just overpriced stuff or...?

JULIUS: Yeah, I think, like people can say like, I mean I said, "Oh, it's not a booming market," but I think that really just comes from the fact of if you're [00:13:00] gonna price your home at what it, your neighbors sold for in 2021, well, it's obviously not gonna sell, right?

Where the moment you price it-

KYLE: But they've, but they- ... at what's actually worth ... but they've had that number in their head since 2021.

JULIUS: Yeah.

KYLE: And, and, and they, they can't let that go.

JULIUS: Yeah. Yeah, so I mean, it's easy to just say, "Oh, the real estate market is slow." Well, okay, I understand saying that, but like if you price your home where it should be, it will sell, right?

KYLE: Yep. So. With, with anything. Anything, everything has a, a flash sale point.

JULIUS: Yeah. And no, but you even just see that in the, in the, in, uh, in the market today. Like there was a, a home listed well just a few weeks ago here, and I put an offer on it, um, and competing with five other people, so, and that was just listed well, right?

So like there definitely is the buyers there-

KYLE: Hmm ...

JULIUS: to, um- Yeah ... that are interested in buying. It just has to be priced right.

KYLE: Yeah. Huh. [00:14:00]

JULIUS: What do you got for, uh... Do you got any listener questions I can comment on?

KYLE: I do, yeah. Wanna hear one?

JULIUS: Sure. I mean, they probably want Gary's opinion, but not mine. But I'll do my best.

KYLE: Uh, why is it so hard for guys to have friends? It seems l- like it's easy to have buddies, go golfing, fishing, et cetera. Mm-hmm. But when you ask someone if they have a friend they can lean on as an accountability partner, they draw a blank. Why? 'Cause they don't want accountability.

JULIUS: Like, the other, like, the, like everybody's friends, you mean?

Like, the other guys wouldn't want-

KYLE: Yeah, he g- well, he asked, uh, but when you ask someone if they have- Mm-hmm ... a friend they can lean on f- as accountability partner, they draw a blank. Well, it's 'cause they don't have an accountability partner, so they dr- of course they draw a blank. '

JULIUS: Cause, yeah.

KYLE: Um, and I, so I think it makes sense that, I mean, the first part of the discussion is why is it so hard for guys to have [00:15:00] friends?

'Cause there's a lot of guys that don't wanna be open.

JULIUS: Have you found that experience to be true? That in general there are just a lot of guys that, like-

KYLE: Yes ...

JULIUS: like, it's just hard to find real good guy friends? I don't

KYLE: know if, I know, I, I don't know if it's hard to find real hard, real good, hard friends, but a lot of guys just don't want to open up.

You know, to be a friend- Yeah ... with someone, you gotta open up to one person. Yeah. Real, like, like, you gotta be real with each other, right? Yeah. And that's what real friendship is based on. Otherwise, what it's based on- Yeah ... so it's so shallow.

Yeah.

KYLE: And so you, you've got to get there at some point and be totally real with somebody, and until you do that, everything is kind of surface, so you don't really have...

Well, d- depends what your definition of friendship is, but-

JULIUS: Yeah. And I guess if you're

KYLE: looking for- A, a leaning on friendship when, like, someone you can call when you've really F'd up or someone, like, when things are really bad, whatever, someone that you're consistently praying with and talking to, and that you have fun with, and that your wife or husband also trusts, like.

JULIUS: Yeah. Yeah, and I think that too, if, if you're a, a guy and you're like, "Oh, I, I have such a hard time [00:16:00] finding another guy that is willing to open up to me a- and all that," like, well, it could be true that, like, a lot of guys just are like that, but also I think that if you yourself are just a, a vulnerable person that, like, is willing to open up and stuff, like, uh, I think- You have to lead

KYLE: by example.

JULIUS: Yeah, that, or, and that, that will just make it, like, 10 times easier to find those people to be friends with, right? Yeah. Where if you're just gonna, yeah, not, not be open and shut up shop every time somebody asks you a question- Right ... right? Like, it's not gonna go anywhere.

KYLE: Yeah. And learn to listen.

JULIUS: I'm really bad at listening.

KYLE: Are you? Yeah. I probably was too at your age.

JULIUS: I mean, I've been married for four or five weeks now.

KYLE: Yeah.

JULIUS: And that's the main thing I've learned.

KYLE: Yeah, you're bad at listening? Um- She's talking, you're just not there

JULIUS: Yeah, just, just really bad at like just taking the time to just shut up and like actually like not think about what I'm thinking or what I want or what I want to say, and just really being like, "Oh, like-

KYLE: [00:17:00] Hmm

JULIUS: what is, what, what's she really trying to communicate to me now?" And without having my own thoughts going through my head and all that. Um, but-

KYLE: Yep ...

JULIUS: I got a lot of years hopefully to-

KYLE: Figure that out ... get

JULIUS: better at

KYLE: it. Yeah. Uh, yeah, you can just suck at it for a while. Just It is ti- yeah, yeah, everybody's learning at some point, so I might as well get on it.

JULIUS: Yeah.

KYLE: Life's better when you know how, so. Yeah, that was a good... Yeah, any, any, what do you think about that question? A- any, uh, do you think it's hard to find good friends that you can actually be real with? Um-

JULIUS: Um, uh, f- in my experience, I mean, I've been super blessed, but I really do believe in like what, uh, related to what I even said already, like you attract friends similar to yourself.

KYLE: Mm-hmm.

JULIUS: Right? So if you are, are doing the right thing, you're hanging out in the right places, you are, um, being honest and open, I think that you will [00:18:00] find, um, friends like that. Yeah. A- and I don't think it, it should be that challenging. Um, I mean, I even- ... yeah, I even know, know lots of guys that like anybody could just approach, even if they have like an issue or something and like, you know, talk about it and, and become friends.

Um, but I don't, I don't know if that's just, hey, I've been super blessed with the people around me. Like, I could see situations where there would be guys in, you know, maybe even a bit of a tougher community that like, they like, I don't know, go to work or go to church and you're like, "Hey, all these guys around here, like they're just not-"

KYLE: Hmm

JULIUS: like-

KYLE: Yeah, you probably have to change where your, your community.

JULIUS: Yeah. Yeah, and I think that some communities- ... would kind of be like that, where it's just, yeah, it's a

KYLE: lot easier. And it's not like what the Bible says either though, right? Like it says like, "Iron sharpens iron." You gotta be close to someone to do that, to be able to trust and like grind someone down and be like, "Hey, that's bullshit."

JULIUS: Mm-hmm.

KYLE: Um, confess your sins one to another. Like it's not like it's, it's [00:19:00] something that is kind of expected, uh, to happen. And so if you're not in close friendships with people, uh, at least a few people, like there's, you've probably got something to work on.

JULIUS: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, and even just in the Bible, like I think that, that, you know, we can view church as a place we go on Sunday to sing songs and listen to the pastor, but I think that just as much as that- meeting with your brothers in Christ is also just as much church, right?

Like, these are your-

KYLE: Yeah, or more, sometimes even, it, it sometimes it's even more so that way. Like it says, uh, "Don't neglect meeting together."

JULIUS: Mm-hmm.

KYLE: And I mean, when you're meeting with someone, it's not just listening and then not communicating anything else back and walking out, right? Like, not neglecting meeting together is like there's communication happening.

Yeah. There's community happening.

JULIUS: Yeah.

KYLE: And so, yeah, church is definitely, um, Bible preached and it's community[00:20:00]

JULIUS: Mm-hmm.

KYLE: You know, as look at us two young bucks talking about this like we know it all.

JULIUS: Yeah.

KYLE: Just my opinion. Yeah. Take it or leave it. Uh,

JULIUS: and- I mean, the main reason I'm, I would be hesitant to come on here is that I, like, say something and I make it sound like-

KYLE: You know everything ...

JULIUS: I know exactly what I'm talking about.

And then- ... well, first of all, everybody just writes me off. Like, "Who's this kid? What's he, what's he talking about?" And just the fact that I can look back at this in 30 years when I'm 50-something.

KYLE: Yeah.

JULIUS: And I'm just like, "What was he talking about?"

KYLE: See, I think it's good to have opinions, and strong ones, even at a, um, a, a younger age, but then to also open to be challenged on them.

Uh- Yeah ... not to be like, "This is my way or the highway," but to have strong opinion, to believe in something. I think it's just- Yeah ... healthy, 'cause then it helps you act on it better as well. Mm-hmm. So, if you feel strongly about what church is and you're 20 years old, like, why shouldn't you be able to share that?

JULIUS: Yeah. You

KYLE: know? And- And

JULIUS: if you don't, if you [00:21:00] don't have an opinion, well then, like, what are you doing? Like, like, so you just have no opinion? You're just kinda just following the crowd?

KYLE: Jellyfish.

JULIUS: Yeah. Like, or I guess, like, everybody does kinda have some sort of opinion.

KYLE: A lot of people don't know what they believe about, like, things regard- regarding faith or church or, or society.

They just don't think about those things. They're just focused- Yeah ... on, like, these three areas of my life, my business. I, I, I don't- Yeah. And so they don't have... Yeah.

JULIUS: Yeah. Just don't even really think about some things.

KYLE: No. I mean, your beliefs, your actions show what you believe, and so it shows, believes that that stuff's not that important to them.

JULIUS: Mm-hmm. Okay, I just realized you got a, a second, uh, this is my squirrel brain, but you got a second little, uh, sign for "The Briefcase and the Barn" and the "Furiously Curious" sign up. Yeah,

KYLE: I swap them

JULIUS: out. Cool.

KYLE: Yeah, so I did an interview earlier this week with, uh, John Carpay. So then I... It was all on interview, but you can see it in the background, so then swap it out.

I actually wanna get two chairs in here again for the long form interviews rather than this desk, because-

JULIUS: When this comes out. [00:23:00] Um, I don't have too much planned. I think that, um, family ba- family barbecue.

KYLE: No, we're going, I'm, uh, go to the p- the Dawsons' house every year.

JULIUS: That's where you're going?

KYLE: Yeah.

JULIUS: Okay. Um, lots of fireworks again? Okay. I mean, we've got a family barbecue. I think part of it's also for, um, my mom's birthday.

KYLE: Oh.

JULIUS: So, um, and I'm actually, I'll be gone. I'll be away on her birthday, so I think it's pretty important I'm there.

KYLE: But you're gonna be gone?

JULIUS: No. For, like, this barbecue- Yeah ... is also for her birthday.

KYLE: Yeah. So- Oh, on her actual birthday ... I

JULIUS: will be gone. Yeah, on her actual birthday I'll be gone.

KYLE: That matters that you're physically gone on her actual birthday?

JULIUS: Well, I think that if I- Cut the cord ... if I skipped-

KYLE: Cut the cord.

JULIUS: If I skipped her, her family barbecue that's kind of partly for her birthday, and I also, uh, was not there on her birthday, I think that-

KYLE: That's a bit much ...

JULIUS: I, I don't know if she'd say [00:24:00] anything, but-

KYLE: You don't want to.

JULIUS: Yeah.
