Gary: in the show notes. And some, there's a lot of interesting stuff you put in there.

I put a few things because I kind of, I had an interesting week too, had some pretty unique experiences happen. What's the most unique experience you've had this week? One I can't talk about because it would be gossiping. So I can't talk about that, but I can say that, uh, my wife was gone. Uh, to Pennsylvania, talked about that last week and, uh, she was gone for four nights and I, you know, people helped me, my sister in particular, my older sister is very helpful.

Um, she's awesome and a few other people, but I, uh, yeah, I did reasonably well, went to church with six kids by myself on Sunday morning, didn't lose anybody, um, had a parent from one of my kids show up. It was just, it was, that, so that was kind of, it was cool, but it was. A bit challenging. Kids running all over the place.

People fear.

Kyle: Have you had a

Gary: parent for when your kids show up?

Kyle: Oh. Oh, I see. Yeah. Anyways. And, uh, yeah. I'm always wondering what

I should, I'm not going to talk [00:02:00] about that either. But

Gary: no, it was good. A unique experience as you started talking about. Yeah. Um, challenging, uh, some challenging business deals. Okay. Things went, things went awry. Yeah. There's some really challenging things.

Kyle: Your new business, which is Tech Alliance and Rosedale Tractor.

Gary: Yeah. Okay. The Rosedale Tractor. That's the first anybody's heard of it. Cause that's just an idea in my head, right? Oh, okay. That's not officially. Well, it's, it's totally going to happen. It's just, it's in the, it's in the beginning stages

Kyle: and you can be selling

Gary: tractors. Yeah, something, sell something, I don't know, used equipment, used farm equipment.

We fixed tractors already there, Tech Alliance has for a long time. It's a good business. Um, and, uh, they fix cars, trucks. I obviously don't fix anything. I just wreck stuff. But the, uh, the guy, it's a good team of people. And so, yeah, nothing's really changed really other than different ownership. But, um, and car, car, like

Kyle: a

Gary: automotive automotive.

Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Downtown Rosedale. Great, great team of people. And [00:03:00] I, any, anybody I've talked to that gets oil changes there, require repairs. They're, they're very fair. They're, they're super trustworthy, which to me, it's like, I look at mechanics, like dentists, right? Like with skepticism, except for, except

Kyle: for, um, I've Fraser tech.

Uh, great guys too. Oh man, so good. Like value. They offer real value. Like those are awesome. Awesome guys. Always had really good experiences with them.

Gary: Yeah. So I would hope we're at that level. I mean, there again, I haven't, uh, I'm new to the whole thing, but that's, that would be my goal to have that type of reputation.

So, um, and to my knowledge, Tech Alliance has a great reputation from what I hear. So it is very separate because it's like the whole automotive, there's four bays for automotive and truck repair, like pickup truck repair and stuff. And then the tractor side is the other side of the business. And so that piece, we're gonna.

Hopefully just create a bit something a little different on that side, but still do tractor repair and we have a service truck. So guys, they're going to fix stuff all the time at people's farms and et cetera. Cool. Anyways,

Kyle: okay. We got a whole bunch of fun stuff to [00:04:00] talk about. We got to

Gary: save some for the overtime.

Kyle: Yes. Uh, we'll start with gentle and lowly. Uh, we're going to go through this book, um, chapter one. Uh, Gary did read it, but he didn't bring the book

Gary: with me.

Kyle: So. Pardon? Yeah. Okay, so I'll start with the, where gentle and lowly comes from, because there's a little excerpt in the beginning. Um, my dad pointed out to me, and we're going to read the first part of this chapter here.

So my dad pointed out to me something that Charles Spurgeon pointed out to him in the four gospel accounts given to Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, 89 chapters of biblical texts. There's only one place where Jesus tells us about his own heart. We learn much in the four Gospels about Christ's teaching. We read of his birth, his ministry, and his disciples.

We are told of his travels and his prayer habits. We find lengthy speeches and repeated objections to his hearers, prompting further teaching. We learn of the way he understood himself to fulfill the Old Testament. And we learn all, in all four accounts of his unjust arrest and [00:05:00] shameful death and astonishing resurrection.

Consider the thousands of pages that have been written by theologians over the past 2, 000 years on these things. But only in one place, perhaps the most wonderful words uttered in human, by human lips, we hear Jesus himself open up to us his very heart in Matthew 11, 20 through 30. And he says, come on to me, all who are late, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest, take my yoke upon you and learn from me for I am gentle and lowly in heart and you will find rest for your souls for my yoke is easy and my burden is light.

And so he describes his heart as gentle. And does

Gary: he explain there what that means to be gentle and lowly?

Kyle: The Greek word gentle here occurs just three other times in the New Testament in the first beatitude, the word that, um, that the meek will inherit the earth in the prophecy in Matthew 21 verse five, that Jesus, the King is coming to you humble and mounted on donkey and in Peter's encouragement to [00:06:00] wives to nurture more than anything else, the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, meek, humble and gentle.

Jesus is not sugar happy, not harsh. reactionary, easily exasperated. He is the most understanding person in the universe. The posture most natural to him is not a pointed finger, but open arms. So that's gentle and with lowly, the meaning of the word lowly overlaps. With that of gentle together, communicating the single reality about Jesus's heart.

This specific word lowly is generally translated humble in the new Testament, just as James four, verse six, God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.

Gary: So to be Christ like would be to be gentle and

Kyle: lowly. Yeah. Tall order. Yes. But that's the heart of Christ. I mean, I think we naturally don't view him that way.

We view him as God is authoritative or, you know, pointing the finger, [00:07:00] um, but that, that's the opposite. Um, but it does also say that, um, or actually there's, there's one line that's quite interesting. If Jesus hosted his own personal website, the most prominent line. On the about me dropdown would read, gentle and lowly in heart.

But this is not for everyone indiscriminately, this is who he is for those who come to him, who take a joke upon them and cry out to him for help.

Yeah, I think, I think it's, uh, just, I'll read this other piece here. Um, Men are apt to have contrary conceits of Christ, but he tells them his disposition there, by preventing such hard thoughts of him to allure them unto him the more. We are apt to think that he is being so holy.

We are apt to think that he, being so holy, is therefore of a severe and sour disposition against sinners, and not able to bear [00:08:00] them. No, he says, I am meek and gentle in my nature and temper. We project unto Jesus our skewed instincts about how the world works. Human nature dictates that the wealthier a person, the more they tend to look down on the poor.

The more beautiful a person, the more they put off the ugly, or put off by the ugly. And without realizing what we are doing, we quietly assume that the one so high and exalted Drawing near to the despicable and unclean. Sure, Jesus comes close to us, we agree, but he holds his nose. This is the risen Christ after all.

He is the one whom God has highly exalted and at whose name every knee will bow in submission.

Gary: Yeah. I don't know. He's a friend of sinners. Right. And we don't, we don't view, like, we don't view him that way. Right. I mean, God does hate sin, but.

Kyle: And he was accused of that by other people of being a friend of sinners.

He didn't take that title off on himself. People said, you're a friend of sinners. It was actually. And in

Gary: that discourse, cause I [00:09:00] think I read it recently. That's where he says, you know, the sick, sick need, you know, the healthy don't need a doctor, right. Or something like that. I think I'm really butchering the text there.

But I think it's interesting because I feel like in our culture that we live, people that just do a lot of like, just trying harder to look better and, and hang, hang out with good people. And we just put all these labels on everybody. Right. But I feel convicted at times, and I've talked about this good friends of mine is like my patterns now are mostly hanging out with people that think pretty similar and people that are doing relatively well.

And I don't. I don't think our lives should look like that. Obviously, if you're in a, a new place of maybe just, you know, relatively, uh, you know, becoming a Christian or just not, you know, you're, you're unsure of your stability and that you would wanna be very wise about who you hang out with. But I do think it, I don't know if we're expected, it's pretty hard to be the salt in the light if, if you're just hanging out with one type of crowd.

The same people. Yeah. Yeah, the same people. So I think, I mean, at the courage, courage,

Kyle: evangelism, late last week, they said that, okay, [00:10:00] they said, they thought about like, are you as a Christian? Are, have you been accused of being a friend of sinners? Like Jesus was accused being a friend of sinners and like loving those people that are marginalized by, you know, the church or by, by society, especially the church though, because it was the church people that accused Jesus that said that the world as a whole, they didn't really care too much about who Jesus was hanging out with, but it was the religious people that were like, how dare you hang out with them.

Gary: Now on the flip side, I would say that in many churches, people are just as lost in the churches. They are. Where, you know, I was on the street this morning, hanging out downtown at Ruth and Niobe's walking around, but really people are just as lost often in the church as the people there. Right. It's just more obvious because they're don't have a house and they're doing drugs, but it's like,

Kyle: yeah, I mean, I think it's actually hard.

I think it's harder to be lost in the church because,

Gary: well, cause everybody's pretending they got it put together. Right. It just drives me insane. That's right. Walk in there on Sunday morning and everybody's. Yeah.

Kyle: Yeah.

Gary: And

Kyle: there's so much judgment. I mean, and that's why I think this book is so important.[00:11:00]

I'll read one more piece here. He says, Goodwin is saying that the high and holy Christ does not cringe at reaching out and touching dirty sinners. And numb sufferers, such embrace is a precisely what he loves to do. He cannot bear to hold back. We naturally think of Jesus touching us the way a little boy reaches out to touch a slug for the first time.

Face screwed up, cautiously extending an arm, giving a yelp of disgust upon contact and instantly withdrawing. We picture the risen Christ approaching us with severe and sour disposition, as Gudrun says. That is why we need the Bible. Our natural intuition can only give us a God like us. That's a great line.

Yes. That is a great line. Yeah. And our beliefs drive our behaviors. And so if we have a bad view of God, we will, we're not going to go to a God that acts like the, that pastor you've experienced or that elder you've experienced that, you know, or that other church member that experiences just like, Oh, you did, you did that?

Like I'm not, you know. Or, or the shame that comes with all the sins and, [00:12:00] and Christ, he would be the first person to come to you and, and, and receive you and, and, um, love you in your brokenness. He didn't accept the sin, but he loved you in your brokenness. Which makes, I think for me, Christianity the most attractive thing in the world.

Like when you, especially when you see your own sin and brokenness yourself, like that, that's, that's a God that, I don't know, you can't, doesn't get better. Reminds me of the Sunday ceremony we had. Were you there on Sunday morning in Chilliwack? It was a Sunday night. Okay, that's good. Oh, on Sunday morning.

Yeah.

Gary: Yeah, you were. Cause I remember the kids saying that Malachi was up in the balcony looking down on us as your family does. Oh yeah, he was. Anyways, so yeah, it was, it was. What'd you like about it? Oh, just how well, uh, Pastor Matt articulated just how dead we are in our own, on our own. And like, I don't think a lot of us realize that enough, but we also don't realize that, uh, the call that's there, right.

And we sit and we [00:13:00] wait and we think, Oh, you know, especially with our, the doctrine that we've been taught, right. We use the doctrine as an excuse rather, but that was never the point of the doctrine. It was never meant to be said. It was always meant to probably be a comfort if anything, right. Well, the Bible literally says that

Kyle: you would not boast.

Gary: Yeah. Yeah. But it's fascinating how, no, just it, you know, we have this idea of like, Hey, I mean, our job is just, yeah, to repent of our sin. Right. And to turn to God. And we, I think we, at least for me in my life, I like blindly sat in this weird spot, this heretical teaching. I'm just kind of like, Oh, I can't do anything.

I'm done. You know, and just like, well, boy, be careful. Like, are you going to be, you're not going to be allowed to use the, the, like you could use the Bible, I guess, but you know, you can't use just that you need to be reading the Bible. Yeah. I mean, I used to say, I just thought it was a really good teaching on, on the full gospel.

I thought it was a, yeah, just a beautiful teaching.

Kyle: You won't be able to say to God. The answer will be, you didn't want to be saved. If you want to be saved, you're already saved. [00:14:00] Otherwise, or you just are, don't want to help, but you don't actually

Gary: want Christ. Yeah. I think that there, again, I think that the teachings that we, we get taught over and over at a very young age, or it can be, it's going to be really careful that you're searching through scripture, looking for, seeking truth on your own.

Right. And, uh, yeah, Yeah, there will be no excuse of, Hey, this is what I was taught. Right. So the onus will be on your own, on yourself. And we all have the word, thankfully, that we can read in our language. So, you know, and, and yeah, that's a fascinating too. Cause thousands of years ago, a lot of people couldn't even read, right.

There was hundreds of years ago, people were not reading, right. Only the educated were right. So they were being, they had probably more of an excuse. Some people have to know

Kyle: two languages. They have to know old English and modern English.

Gary: Anyways, I digress, next, next topic, next topic.

Kyle: Okay, uh, we got a question that came in that says, uh, I'd be interested in your and Gary's thoughts on how to deal with people who are addicted to conspiracy [00:15:00] theories.

We have a close family member who spends most of their days busy with this and it's rooting their life and their connection with their family. I'm talking flat earth, lizard people type stuff. That second part, they lost me even, and I'm a total conspiracy theorist. So I'll read what that is. How do you deal with This from an addiction point in, in view.

And so I will, the lizard, uh, comment is You know what the problem with this is?

Gary: Like some people are just gonna like get out the old Google machine and just get in deep trouble. Rabbit trail. Anyways, what is a lizard? Okay,

Kyle: the idea of Reptilians was popularized by David Icke, a conspiracy theorist who claims shape shifting reptilian aliens control Earth by taking on human form and gaining political power to manipulate human societies.

Icke has stated on multiple occasions that many world leaders are or are possessed by so called reptilians.

Gary: Is Orange Man actually a lizard guy?[00:16:00]

Kyle: I don't know. I mean, he's mostly just one color, aren't, like, we're dribbling as many colors. Angry Orange Man. So, if you had a family member, a child, or something like this, that was just going Ad nauseum. Going crazy on these conspiracy theories, flat earth, whatever, all the things that are out there, how would you How would you care for them?

How would you love them? Well,

Gary: I would just ask a lot of questions. I'd say, Hey, do you feel like there again, it's very different if someone's a Christian and not a Christian, right? You know, if someone's a believer, it's like, Hey, like, you know, you could just literally like, just point them to the truth, to scripture and be like, you could probably be a lot harsher.

Um, if someone's not, I mean, either way, I guess practically you just think, Hey, how helpful is this in your life? Right. And, uh, who was it the other day? Somebody said to me, faithful listener gets a lot of shout outs on the show said, you know, you'd have to be a little bit blind not to be a conspiracy theorist at all.

[00:17:00] But I do think that we don't need to live in fear of anything, right? We don't need to live in a state of paranoia. We don't need to. So I, you're not. Fear not, right? Be joyful. Like, those are the, that should be our posture. Don't worry about tomorrow. Today is a zone of worries. Don't worry about tomorrow.

Today is a lot of worries. And if it doesn't, you're not trying hard enough. Like, that would be my argument. If you're super comfortable, you're, you're, you're not probably taking the risk that God wants you to take in your life. But, but I guess, yeah, on the conspiracy theory side, I just think it's, uh, and, and we joke about it all the time.

Um, but it's actually really dangerous. And it's, uh, it's similar to anything. That's not the main thing, focusing too much on it is unhealthy. It would not matter what it was. Right. And that's where, that's the beauty of what we learn on Thursday nights, where it's like, anything can become a sin if it's not what we're supposed to be doing.

Our job is to discern what God wants us to do. And if we're not doing what he wants us to do, we're sinning. And if we're doing things that we know we're not supposed to do, that's sinning. And I mean, those are basic things that we're taught at a young age. I watched

Kyle: a week 17 video this week, cause I missed that week on repentance.[00:18:00]

And when Ken goes through the list of. Um, sins, like lots of good things. Yeah. He like less off, like things that are explicitly sin. And then he like supposed to hockey and he goes, hockey became a sin for me because I was playing every, you know, Friday night and Saturday night. And I was home at 3 AM. And the next morning I was a bear towards my kids and my wife.

And so it became a sin for me. And so I think it's, I mean, I think there's a lot of that where you don't. Not necessarily like black and white is

Gary: yeah, if you're gonna approach somebody You're never gonna approach them in the setting when they're talking about the conspiracy theory like the proper way would be to say hey Text him or call them and say I got something that's kind of bothering me that I'd like to talk to you about you set The appointment like that's one of the things that you do if you're you know You set the appointment you give them some general idea that you want to talk to them about Something that's bothering you and then you just, you know, you start about how, how you feel about it and people can't argue with how you feel, right?

Like, you know, people can say, Hey, I don't agree with what you're saying or no, but like, if you say this is when you talk about this, this is how I feel [00:19:00] about it, right? That's just how it is. Right. And you know, I think that's same in any relationship. Like, and, and that's for me and Marie would have given me crap in the past when we were married, I would be like, well, that's not what I intend.

That's not, oh, like you shouldn't feel like you don't, you don't get to decide how your wife feels. Like if, if me working all the time makes her feel undervalued, then that's, then I need to work less. It's just that simple. Like, even though I may not agree and I may think, and I think that it's the same here.

You would just have a discussion

Kyle: about like,

Gary: You would set, you would set the, you would set the thing and say, Hey, we're going to have a chat about this. And you say, this is pretty concerning to me. How, and then try ask some questions. Cause people should, to some degree, it is an addiction. Get curious. It is an addiction and it's totally, yeah.

Hey, furiously curious. It's, it's definitely an issue. And, um, I think there again, if someone's a Christian, I think you can probably come down pretty hard. Cause it's pretty obvious that, you know, it's just a total rabbit hole and a complete waste of time. No different than it.

Kyle: But even if, [00:20:00] even if they're not asking, like, okay, let's say these things are true, then what?

Then what? How does that change things? Like, what's the point? Yeah, what, what difference does it make? What's the point? Let's say the earth is flat, then what?

Gary: Yeah, like, just don't make sure you don't boat off the end of it. I don't know, like, what's the

Kyle: Yeah, I just like, I mean, it's, it reminds me a little bit actually of COVID and, uh Or do,

Gary: if you're just going to continually talk about conspiracy theories, please go find the end of this sucker.

Bad joke, bad joke. I already regret saying that one.

Kyle: Um, but in COVID, how you had so many Christians that were vaxxed or anti vaxxed, and they would definitely be, let their family members know what they were. Both ends, totally wrong. Both ends, but they wouldn't share the gospel with them, you know, like, of something that's, you know, they would agree themselves.

Of utmost importance. Way more important. Of utmost importance, yeah. And so. It's

Gary: what we talked about at lunch. We met with a faithful listener of the show today. Shout out Joseph Pohl. Sorry, you got your name dropped. Anyways, we won't say anything derogatory about [00:21:00] you or all the crazy ideas you came up with.

Um, yeah, he's pretty crazy, but um, no, great guy. He, uh, we just kind of went on that tangent of, and we talked a lot about even U. S. politics and that type of thing. But just the idea of the, the, the things that people, Big Trump fan guy. No, um, Yeah,

Kyle: okay, keep going.

Gary: Well, where I was going with that was just the idea of like, hey, Um, and this is, we've talked about it a lot, but it's just this idea that, hey, can we stay new?

Things are nuanced and things are complicated. It's like, if we just grab one angle of anything, you could completely eviscerate something, but I just don't think it's healthy, right? And so he definitely had that posture too, which was pretty encouraging. He had a, he has a pretty unique way of looking at things.

I appreciate it. Okay. I don't know. Did we talk enough about conspiracy theories? I mean, I, yeah, I don't, I don't know. You are a conspiracy theorist, right? In what way? Like you would believe in certain conspiracy theories, no?

Kyle: Well, I don't think a conspiracy theory is anything but the truth.

Gary: Okay,

Kyle: okay,

Gary: fair enough.

Kyle: I don't know what conspiracy theories I would believe in. Like, I believe [00:22:00] in, I think the government is extremely corrupt and that there is, like, you know, they're intentionally hiding things from people. Yeah,

Gary: okay. But you don't perpetually look at the government and think every single person in the government has a nefarious agenda?

Kyle: No.

Gary: Because they don't.

Kyle: I mean, that would be like, that's like people accusing the whole church of being bad.

Gary: Yeah. I

Kyle: mean, like, yeah.

Gary: Yeah. There's a good lesson to be learned there, actually. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Kyle: Okay. Yesterday, I was on Instagram, switching subjects now, and, uh, a friend of mine posted a picture of a quote that says, Be fearful when others are greedy, and greedy when others are fearful.

His name was Gary Baars And so you posted that to your story. I was like, Hmm, what is, why'd you post that? What'd you like about that? It's a

Gary: stock. It's a motto in the stock market. Okay. It's from Warren Buffett. I was watching a documentary with my son on Warren Buffett.

Kyle: Okay.

Gary: We watched this show on YouTube called Big Companies.

Is he still kicking? My son or Warren Buffett? Warren Buffett. Yeah. Warren Buffett's going hard. [00:23:00] Charlie Munger. Charlie Munger passed away. Charlie Munger had a lot of, uh, very wise man too. So there are two guys that own a company called Berkshire Hathaway and, uh, it's a very, a big company. They are what I would like the type of stock investing I do is probably modeled after them.

I read a book that, uh, they recommended the Intelligent Investor by, uh, I think it's Benjamin, I want to say Franklin. Graham, anyways.

Kyle: Not

Gary: Franklin, he's the president. Graham. Wrong guy. Um, anyways, it was just the idea that, um, we are, people are ruled by two emotions primarily when it comes to investing their money.

And one is greed and one is fear. Um, and, and fear is the more powerful of the two, I think. Um, so typically when we have drawdowns in the stock market, where all of a sudden everybody's like sell, sell panic heads. We sell hard because we're just paranoid about losing our money. Right. And actually that's why most people probably shouldn't, you know, I mean, Julia said it the other day, Hey, they, uh, you know, the person that the stock portfolio does best is a dead person, right?

Because they just never touch it. They don't sell [00:24:00] emotions. There's no emotions. There's the thing, um, continually grows. Right. So, um, I just found it fascinating. I had a few people comment, uh, they probably don't listen to the podcast, but they were commenting about how, Oh, I'll just keep buying Bitcoin and I'll keep buying.

You know, these stocks now, those are Bitcoin is a separate issue, but stocks like micro strategy or things that are like planetary, there's certain stocks that are very high valuations, um, that I would consider. There's not my realm of investing. Like I'd be way more of a buffet where you just buy solid businesses that.

Make money, cashflow, cashflow, like long periods of time, paid dividends, um, there again, people would really disagree with that and they would have good, good reasons to disagree with I don't, I wouldn't even say I'm right. I just do what I'm comfortable with. And I think that's actually the most interesting part.

And this is what I always tell people when they ask me for investing advice. You have to invest with your own, uh, the consideration of your own character in mind, right? It's very much like even a rental house. Like I think buying rental houses is a great idea. I used to own. Rental houses when I was younger [00:25:00] today, I don't, cause I'm not a tough enough person and I can't deal with being hard on the tenant.

I can't, you know, if I have, I had at one time, I was probably 22 years old. I had a single mom with four kids living in my house. Wasn't paying a rent. Like,

Kyle: you know, the guts to like, yeah, how do you do that? How do you do that? Like,

Gary: it's like literally she has nowhere to go. She doesn't have the money.

She's it's not her fault. Like, but whatever, maybe it's probably, well, it would be partially her fault, but it was obviously some other tool. That's not taking care of what he's supposed to be doing. So I just thought. Yeah. So that, so when I invest, like, Hey, I, my consideration of mine, right. Whereas there's other areas where I can put my money where I can be tougher and it doesn't bother me.

Right. And so, um, I think that, that, that whole adage where, and that's what's wrong with our society. We all think that whatever our right is, it's the other person's right. And there's lots of areas investing would be a great one. Say that again. Well, we just all have the idea of our truth is the truth for everybody.

And that's just not the case in a lot of different areas. There is obviously the ultimate truth. Yes. Which, which we would all say is, you know, we can find in the book, but it's [00:26:00] like outside of that, there's a lot of nuance and areas where, Hey, this may be great for you, but that's not going to work well.

Well, usually the people that are projecting

Kyle: their beliefs in everyone else as like, this is the only way is very insecure people that, you know, don't want to be wrong. Well,

Gary: it makes them uncomfortable. Think they might be wrong. And the minute that someone else is right, it means they're wrong. So there's just a lot of that going on in my life.

I'm just like, you can tell that people have not actually thought that much about what they believe, but they are just. Definitely afraid of thinking that they may have been wrong the whole time and I think yeah So there's a a real health and just kind of in your own quiet silence just figuring out but anyways the investing thing I think is fascinating.

I it's something that me and my kids enjoy watching together So so it's either that or Minecraft right and I'm not a big Minecraft fan. I do watch you think it's terrible Is there something wrong

Kyle: with it? My

Gary: kids play Minecraft every day.

Kyle: Okay, so my I mean I don't know if there's anything wrong with it.

I don't know very little about it. I'm just not a big video games guy because I think it's, I would be in there like a dirty shirt myself probably. And [00:27:00] so I've been resisting getting an action. You'd be creating a big, a big community. Maybe not in Minecraft. I'd probably be playing like golf or, or, um, there's a hunting, a really good hunting video game.

Um, with my son or something like that, but.

Gary: Grand Theft Auto. Hunting people. Probably not. People do these things. It's a big addiction, eh? Oh, yeah. It's not like, thankfully, I have enough other problems. It's probably the only thing I haven't got addicted to in my life, but. I would be. Oh, yeah. I could see that too.

Staying up till the wee hours of the morning.

Kyle: I have a Tesla and you can play video games on the Tesla. And so once in a while, like on a Sunday morning, I'm like, where's Malaki It's like so quiet in the house. Hiding, oh, in the Tesla. Yeah. He goes in my wallet, gets a little key card and goes and plays video games.

Okay. Switching subjects. Uh, True North. Put out a, uh, an, uh, poll or article this week. It says nearly half of young Canadian men would take. U. S. citizenship from Trump, if offered. Um, I got one response to, I posted it on my story, and it said, because they're young and still developing [00:28:00] their brain, older men wouldn't, nor, nor any aged women.

That was a woman

Gary: that

Kyle: sent you that? So I said, thank you, I love strong opinions. But I think it's, uh, I think it's interesting. I don't know how they got their data, but I mean, it doesn't surprise me. I think there's something that, um, attracts people towards, um, Trump's realness, like I don't give a shit, I'm just going to say it how it is.

And so they get versus like traditional politicians are quite polished and I would say almost like soft. Um, and, uh, and I think there's something that attracts them to that. But I thought it was interesting.

Yeah. I had a call from someone earlier today and they're

Gary: going down to the US to hang out. I don't know if they're going to, I don't think they're going to move down there, but I always feel like. There's pros and cons to everything. Right. So I can see that. I can see some of the [00:29:00] attractiveness of, of, of the U.

S. where it's like, even like, they're just. You know, there's, I like it that the states are more independent. I feel like there's just, you can move around the country if you didn't like, you know, you could be an American and you could live in a very left leaning state for lack of a better word, or you could be in a very conservative state.

And then, you know, you could, like, I like that idea. I feel like, uh, Canada as much as our country, it's a beautiful thing. It's built on immigration. We're all part of it. There's probably, and I'm not the only one that's saying this as some white Dutch guy, like there'd be people that all. This is common knowledge now and now all of a sudden the government's reining it in in the last 12 months, but the immigration has been too rampant.

It's been too high of a percent. It's not sustainable growth. It's causing huge issues in our healthcare system and it'll cause huge issues further on down in when it comes to old age security and things like that, right? Where there's not enough working people. Um, to pay for things. So I think in that sense, the U.

S. probably where it's state by state, you know, governors and states probably can have a little more autonomy. And what [00:30:00] they do is probably a health

Kyle: care system has pros and

Gary: cons, pros and cons. I mean, it was fascinating. So like. Um, since this is long after, by the time people listen to this, this will be long after the weekend where we all thought that there was going to be a 25 percent tariff on everything or people, you know, I, I wasn't as concerned probably as some, even though I import and export all the time and mostly import, um, probably should have been more concerned, but there wasn't a tariffs on the particular items that I bring in in bulk.

But I found that like, I know enough about tariffs to know how inflationary and how damaged they are to everybody that I just thought, Hey, even if, even if they came in temporarily. There'd be enough problems that, you know, and there again, I think Trump is just, you know, that's probably his style. He's pandering to his base and, you know, pro by America, pro America.

But like, we live in a global world, like it's just not that simple to just come across and say, Oh, now everything's gonna be produced in the U. S. But that's not

Kyle: what even his issue was. He goes like, shut down, clean up your border. Ah, that's

Gary: what he

Kyle: said.

Gary: But I mean, it was all about, no, it wasn't just about that.

It was about, it was about the idea of like, [00:31:00] hey, You know, create the stuff in America. He recently came after Mexico cause Joe or John Deere, cause John Deere was going to build a plant in Mexico. I think they still are, but like just that idea. And there again, like I, but rather than threaten the other country, how about incentivize, you know, incentivize the companies to build in the U S well, why?

Cause nobody, nobody can afford to live in the U S and work for a Mexican wage, right? Like,

Kyle: well, but if you're, if you're a big company in the U S and you have the, the, or any company and you have the ability to hire someone that. You know, minimum wage or like what an illegal immigrant would work for. Um, you're going to hire that person.

We're given a capitalist society. So I

Gary: had someone call me, I had someone call me in the last week, right? Like the day after that was announced about shipping all the illegal immigrants out. Very upset. It's an American, American farmer. And this is a conservative guy, as conservative as they get. He'd be a total pro Trumper, right?

But he was just like, these policies that he's spitting out. He does not understand the actual consequences for the total American people where like the issue that people really have heat. And this is all from this guy who will [00:32:00] remain unnamed to this farmer. He said, people do not, um, people do not have an issue per se with the illegals being there as much as that those illegals are now going.

Under Obama, like under Obamacare, like they're getting full care, right? At the cost of all the taxpayers, probably predominantly I would assume in southern states. But it's because these, some of these people, like not all, some have great jobs and are working, right? Like for example, at these people's farms further north, there's got, there's people that are not, um, citizens working.

But I think

Kyle: there's a lot of misinformation there because Trump's not anti immigration. He's anti illegal immigration. Yeah,

Gary: but their country is, is, is built on that. It's not going to be that simple to get rid of. Like, who's going to pick all the

Kyle: vegetables and milk all the cows? But it's not like they're getting rid of all the people that have immigrated.

It's, in Joe Biden's term, they estimate between 10 to 20 million people came in. In four years. They had lots of like immigrants from Mexico before that. And they're, they're saying, look, there's a whole bunch of people who came illegally, a whole bunch of criminals and stuff like that, [00:33:00] which right now they're only deporting all the criminals.

They're not even deporting like the, the, like these families. They're not. No, they're just, they're going after the bad guys. Like they're going after people that they literally knew where they lived and they did nothing about it. Like, you know, actual criminals. Okay. Um, and, and so I think it's. I think there's a lot of misinformation out there about it.

And I think it goes to your earlier point is that when you decide. Uh, you're going to go find the evidence for that belief and you're not going to really think of anything contrary. No, I agree

Gary: with getting people, I agree with the idea of it. And I can see that you definitely want to have an immigration system that's healthy and people are not circumventing the rules.

So I'm not opposed to any of that. And even the idea of I just thinking to blanket statement, Hey, we're changing this policy overnight. Like similar to the USA thing that we were talking about earlier, like there again, you might disagree and say, Hey, we need to have a harsh restart here, but I would think, boy, when you make big changes that are going to affect people's lives, especially people like in USA case where, you know, they are funding, yeah, they're funding [00:34:00] probably lots of things people disagree with, but they're funding, they're also funding programs that, Hey, are keeping people alive in other parts of the world.

You want to just be a little careful probably and, and, and proceed with caution when you're saying, Oh no, this, this program's wiped off the map. We're not going to fund this anymore. Right. I mean, that was kind of that from reading between all the different views. And I mean, I told you at lunch too, I see people that are like, just hate Trump so harshly that they're just not realizing that government's probably not the best person.

Maybe that's the best organization to dole out all the money. And there's going to be some corruption and couldn't even see that as potentially being possible or didn't care because. You know, there again, people get blinded. You're, you're not wrong, but anyways.

Kyle: Okay. Um, mailbag question. How do you know how many kids you should have?

Should you plan? Should you get snipped? Are you snipped? Biologically or slipped? I have five adopted children. So how many kids should you have? How do you decide [00:35:00] that you're not going to have five more adopted children? We might,

Gary: haven't thought about it that much. I don't worry about tomorrow and more children seems like a tomorrow thing.

So probably a little more complicated, uh, for most people, but.

Kyle: Do you think you should, uh, just, um, not think about it at all and just see how No, no,

Gary: no, no, I don't think so. Do you think you can think about it? Yeah, I think people should think about it. I think people should, for one thing, for sure be on the same page as your spouse and definitely spend time praying together until you are, because that's pretty important.

I would say that's a real Primary thing in your marriage that you should be on the same page about. And I think that men should be very respectful to the fact that the woman does the bulk of the parenting, at least in my house, they do. I mean, there's probably houses where it's different, but in our house, my wife does the bulk of the heavy lifting with kids.

So I'm going to be pretty sensitive to how many kids think, I think she thinks we should have rather than myself. Um, and, uh, I think that there's probably cases where people are not that way, where a [00:36:00] man maybe is not as caring as he should be, but, because it is a lot of work, right? So, yeah, I'm really torn on this.

I find it fascinating where I think big families are awesome as a general rule. And I, I think that, um, you know, there again, I had a client the other day, they have one child. I was showing them a place. And they were, you know, she's made an interesting comment. And I was like, I don't even know if they wanted to have one or not.

Maybe they wanted to have more, but it was just like, Oh, there's pros and cons to everything. And that was an accurate statement. If you had three kids as opposed to six, Marie and I talk about this all the time. Sometimes we'll just randomly just have three kids in the house and it's quiet and we're able to pay attention more and we're not as distracted.

I'm like, Hey, you can give your kid a lot more attention. So like I say, I think it's, boy, you want to be careful. You definitely don't need to be worried about worrying about what anyone else is doing. That we can say for sure. So just, yeah, it's your own personal journey. And, uh, like I say, I

Kyle: think everyone's ability to handle kids is different.

Some people,

Gary: some, some people can handle eight kids better than the odd parent can handle too. And I hate the comparing things, a [00:37:00] disaster. Whenever I share how many children are at home, people are like, Oh wow. Yeah. Oh wow. Are you

Kyle: okay Gary?

Gary: Well, no, it's like. Whatever you have is a lot, first of all, like it's, it's relative, right?

Like. Yeah.

Kyle: I think the issue comes in when you're, when, when we think about it selfishly. Like,

Gary: why would somebody be asking that question?

Kyle: Well, because, well, I know in, in Dutch reform culture, there's like, there, there has been teaching where basically you shouldn't think about it at all. And you should just like.

Whatever the good Lord brings us is. Yeah. And all of a sudden you have. And you haven't really thought about it and you're not prepared for it at all. And, you know, like these kids aren't getting attention and it's causing a lot of damage or the other side where you're like, Oh, well only having one kid so I can still have my super nice vacations and have lots of freedom.

Uh, uh, those are

Gary: interesting conversations. Those are all, uh. Great sermon illustrations

Kyle: But I think I like it like anything like use your brain like God gave us brains, you know use them like what's what's best for you situation and your family and Yeah, sometimes [00:38:00] it's probably good to get snipped.

Maybe sometimes get unsnipped. I don't know if that's a thing. I don't

Gary: think you can I think it's pretty serious. Is it with

Kyle: the ovaries, you can tie them and they can get untied?

Gary: Yeah, even that's pretty challenging, I think. But now we're getting into women's fertility and I really get crapped on when I start talking about that in the podcast.
