Yeah. Okay. I kind of like, I'd go to free or form here and there, but I was living on my own for a bit and I just, yeah. Didn't really go. 'cause mostly because I was probably, uh, just busy watching movies or something all day Sunday. Yeah. I used to get, there was five movies, five days, $5. I'd literally do that every Sunday, pound through five movies.

Wow. And then, uh, it's amazing. It's

Gary: amazing how you can waste your life. Eh, there's a thousand ways to waste your life. That would just be one of them. Some of them are, people are still doing that ironically,

Tim: and some of them are kind of fun. [00:01:00] It's waste some of the movies. No, just, yeah. Some of the waste to waste the waste like that.

It's, that's why it's easy to do. 'cause it's,

Kyle: uh, yeah. Remind me to take a group photo af We have to do it after every Leonard's asking after every episode to like, uh, sit close to together for like a group photo. 'cause how far away do you gotta be from, from a thumbnail? Pretty close. Yeah. Pretty close, but it doesn't whatever like that far?

I wouldn't either. Yeah. Let's just start, let's get into the podcast and then we'll talk about the podcast.

Kyle: Welcome back to the episode of Briefcase to the Bar, episode 80. Uh, got lots of talk about, um, we got Tim joining us. What's up?

Tim: Oh, not much just came from work.

I did, honestly did not know I was gonna be here. So I

Kyle: texted you, I said, do you wanna join the podcast tomorrow? Right?

Tim: Yeah. But you said that, and then right after that, um, I was questioning you like, what are the topics gonna be? 'cause I'm like, I don't want to get nailed into a corner here. And so then you said, oh, we don't really discuss that.

And then you're like, yeah, you're just gonna go for coffee with Gary and I. And I was thinking, I was like, oh, I guess that makes sense. Maybe you'll just wanna tell me how it works. And it like literally did not click till like two hours ago and I was like, it's a trap. 'cause I had texted you about a trap too.

It's like, I don't wanna be trapped. And I'm like, he did it anyways. It's a

Gary: trap here. I've been trapped 80 weeks in a [00:03:00] row. Um, and it could be worse. Yeah, I actually, what do you do for work, Tim? Tell, tell us what you do for work. Uh, construction.

Tim: Okay. I kind of started that just 'cause I didn't know what else to do in school.

Kyle: What's

Tim: the name of the company? Wes Contracting. So nothing creative, but, and I just kind of, when was that? 2012. I started and mostly do custom homes, some commercial stuff. We've been getting into a bit more, uh, few jobs, uh, more on the industrial side, uh, on the highway. A couple things we're doing there, so, oh, that's right.

Yeah. You were

Kyle: subbing up from Jake's. Yeah,

Tim: yeah. A couple jobs there. Quite a variety. Usually all the stuff that's,

Kyle: are you doing that more work more because uh, the housing side has slowed down or is just, or would you just take that work regardless?

Tim: Um, I don't know. I always seem to just take like interesting jobs.

I dunno, I always land on like these weird jobs that no one else seems to want to do. And I, [00:04:00] I'm a sucker for punishment. So

Gary: It's interesting you said that your name was not creative 'cause it's your last name obviously works contracting, but, um, I haven't heard a lot about you, but one of the things I've heard is that you're very creative.

Yeah. And got a very gift for building cool things and designing cool things. The only reason

Tim: I use that is I've got some family in the industry who've been in there like longer than I have. So it's like, well I can milk the last name for all it's worth 'cause I've got nothing else going. So That's funny.

Uncle Dennis. Yeah. And, uh, one of my other uncles, he's reputable. Uh, one of the owners of Cann. Okay. Yeah. My cousin. All well known people. Yeah. Yeah. So I figured, okay. Never know how that benefits me down the road, so, okay. Sweet. May as well milk it while I can.

Gary: How was Mexico? Uh, it was really good. Yeah, it was very interesting.

It's very interesting. It's always interesting experience going to different country and different place. Um, five nights, which was great break. It was a beautiful place. It wasn't super hot like we went to Cabo, which I've never [00:05:00] been there. We we're pretty adventurous. Even though like we will find something we like, I'm like, oh, we'll try something different next time.

One more time. And people are different that way. Some people go to the same place 10 years in a row or whatever. Um, you and Marie hit it off. I says, pardon? You and Marie

Kyle: hit it off.

Gary: Oh yeah.

Tim: Was it just you two? Yeah. Oh, that's, that's nice. Yeah. Do,

Gary: do you

Tim: do that a lot? Like just you two go on

Gary: vacation? Well, we try to, once a year would be our goal.

And our last trip, it was kind of a joke we went to, um, we always go to a marriage retreat every year in September. So that's actually one of our favorite holidays 'cause it's a family life event and it's just really well done and it's a fundraiser and, and um, this last time we went, it was in Canas and we landed in the Calgary airport and we hadn't even gotten outta the parking lot.

And the school called and said, oh, your kid, uh, is pretty hurt. She's vis visibly broken arm. So she went in for surgery and children's hospital with my older sister and Marie flew right back home and I did the marriage conference by myself, which is pretty typical for me. Hanging out with a hundred people, people having fun while she's back at home dealing with the [00:06:00] carnage.

Yeah. How, how's that work,

Tim: just going by yourself to a marriage conference?

Gary: Um, it is the same, same as normal really. Right. Just I'm the one that needs older work, so might as well talking to anybody else. Well, I met a guy that owns a mechanic shop, like Tech Alliance, like our shop. Oh, okay. So that's how like he has two shops.

So that's, so I met him and then he came out, flew out and had a meeting with me and was kind of guiding me and helping me make a few changes and stuff. So it's pretty cool. It's pretty cool to people you meet there, right? Yeah. Never been to one. You put a note. Good Family life marriage conference to any marriage conference?

No. Okay. No, I highly recommend it. You just have your shit together.

Tim: Um. No, no. I mean, I'm sure everybody could use a marriage conference. No, honestly. Yeah, that's right.

Gary: Is there stigmatism around it? Like for like, just for yourself, would you be like, or it just hasn't happened?

Tim: No, I mean, it is just, the opportunity hasn't presented itself.

Okay. And I mean,

Gary: Yeah. Yeah. And it's really, uh, it's, uh, it's people that I've never had somebody go and say, I wish I hadn't went.

Kyle: So, yeah. On the topic of marriage, you put a note in the show notes here on the Philipp Yancy Affair. So Philip Yancy, I didn't know until this came out. Um, he's a Christian author and he emailed a statement to CT Magazine that he had engaged in an affair with a married woman for eight years and would retire from writing and speaking.

So apparently he's this really well known author. I, I never heard of him, but, um, he wrote the book. What's so Amazing? I think

Gary: he's one of the most well known and evangelical circles. I've never heard. I hadn't either never heard, but my wife park. So she wrote the book. What's

Kyle: so Amazing about Grace? Sold more than 15 million [00:08:00] copies.

How many copies? 15 million. Wow. I must live Under Rock. Never heard of this guy. He's probably, uh, making bank with that too, unless he did what Piper did and wrote all the royalties off. But, um, anyways, you, uh, put in here Gary, uh, Gary's take in Marie and her opinion on me having one, you having an affair, I'm assuming.

So you guys talked about this. Well, we

Gary: talked about, we were in Mexico. We were talking about, she had just finished reading his book.

Kyle: Oh, okay. That makes it hit a little harder than probably.

Gary: Well, it does, and I think. It's fascinating how, and I think this is why probably there's such a tall, um, you know, high standard for people that are in leadership.

Not that they're not sinful, they're very sinful leaders are, but just the idea of like, obviously private sin. Mm-hmm. You know? Um, and I, like I say, I haven't read his book, so in the context of like how he viewed grace and stuff, I, I mean obviously he talked a lot about God's grace and I, I have no idea what he wrote about it, but for her it was very much, um, you know, don't cheat or I'll kill you.

Right? Like, no, there'd be no [00:09:00] great, no, no. She's actually very, very, she's probably the most gracious person I know. Um, but it was just this idea of like, Hey, is it, is it a, like, obviously it's a forgivable sin, but just the idea of like, Hey, how do you get in that spot? As a person that's having an extended affair for a long period, don't have

Kyle: accountability.

You're not being real well. And I'm

Gary: sure there's somebody listening to this that probably is doing that. Like it's highly unlikely that there's seven or 800 people listening to something and one of 'em is not really, really sideways in their life. Right. And so I just think, man, there's great freedom and there is full forgiveness when things come to light, but it needs to come to light and there needs to be repentance.

Yeah. I thought he was repentant. I, I just wrote a, saw a brief snippet of his, did you hear about it? No, I You even, or you never even heard about this? No. But like, the

Tim: thing that I find interesting is all these like famous or well-known people, it seems a lot of Christians, if they ever have something like this that happens, they just write their career off.

They write everything off, they disappear. There's been like a few guys and everybody else writes 'em off too. And yeah, they're, we should be the ones who are [00:10:00] probably pretty

Gary: gracious. Forgiving. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Now, John, have you, you know John Christ? Yeah. The comedian. Mm-hmm. So. Similar experience, but way younger guy.

So there again, very young, so probably a lot, very different than somebody that wrote a book that sold sister. Yeah. Wasn't married. Wasn't married, but was doing Definitely came out and fully admitted and got a lot of help. Yeah. And he has fully redeemed his career as well. I had no idea about, have you heard of him?

Oh yeah. Okay. He's hilarious. Yeah. I reason I had no idea about Sues podcast. And he's obviously very funny and, and pokes fun of Christians and just, I mean, I, I

Kyle: feel, I feel for anybody that's in a position that has sold 15 million books and is, has the accolades of that your whole career, you know, and it not have an effect on you like, but in a

Gary: way it really doesn't matter.

Like in a way it doesn't matter what part, what do you mean? I guess from my perspective, it shouldn't matter, like whether you are famous or not famous, it's still carnage in a marriage. It's still your reputation. It's actually more

Kyle: damaging when you are famous. I'm just saying that it's, he's in a [00:11:00] position where you're more tempted when you have ma money.

Influence and power. Like that's scary. The temptations lot. Like the tempt temptations. Skywalks look it,

Gary: well, I would look at it and I don't know how we got into the affair, but I could just see it in my own life. 'cause that's, Maria and I were talking very openly about it. We talked very openly about how you would get into these spots.

Yeah. Um, and when you have those things, that quickly becomes what your thing is. Right. It's why we're commanded not to have idols. And that's why Proverbs says, Hey, gimme just enough wealth to live, but not too much. You know? Yeah. And, and I think it's those trappings that easily ensnare us. Right. And so for us, we don't.

We basically have a non, I don't wanna say a non-contact rule, but like we just don't have relationships with people of the opposite sex in our marriage. Like, we just don't, 'cause that's just wisdom. Some people do, but like, I'm not messaging women on Instagram. I'm not commenting on somebody's realtor lady story.

And like, I just never engage in, right. And if somebody did, I [00:12:00] probably wouldn't respond. Or I would, if it went on any amount of either way, I would instantly tell my wife just 'cause now there's no secret. 'cause the devil loves the secrets. He loves the secret message, he loves the private text. He now, he's kind of got, you're in a dangerous spot.

Right. And so whatever, I'd be very careful. Even now I'm feel like I'm gone too far. But,

Kyle: but it's funny you saying like a lot of people writing him off, I mean, would they take all of King David's psalms out of the Bible as well? You know, like he wrote a lot of those psalms after it's affair even. Yeah.

And, and you know, I'm like, they're reading him, they're singing him, they, they're singing those songs. And so, uh, yeah, I,

Tim: I think people just view that as different 'cause it's the bible. It's just could they not say that, Hey, this guy wrote the Bible. But I think subconsciously they kind of do that. Like it's not like if you would question, I bet if you would question somebody about whether or not they should be forgiven and all that, they would be like, oh yes, of course, of course.

But it seems like a lot of times the people who this happens to, they pull [00:13:00] themselves back also. Because of the shame.

Kyle: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. The shame is terrible, so, yeah, yeah. Yeah. It's actually interesting. There's a, there's a, there's a podcast called Misfit Preachers, um, and it's three, uh, pa ex former pastors that had stories similar to Philip Yancy that, um, where their whole, they were quite well known and, and, and sold a lot of things had influence and everything went, came burning down.

And basically they got ostracized by their churches. And a lot of people in their lives, they refused to talk to 'em and

Tim: like,

Kyle: and, and totally, uh, abandoned them. And then, so now they're all doing okay, and now they're just talking about their journeys and what they learned and like the bullshit they were believing when they were in their sin and what they learned about how people reacted.

And just like being open about your brokenness. And it, it's a, it's a really good podcast series. Uh, they don't, I think they just did a series on it and haven't been recording anymore since then, but it's called Misfit Preachers and, uh, really encourage people to listen to it. It's really good.

Gary: Can I read Psalm, the Psalm David, that you talked about after he, uh, yeah.

Yeah.

Kyle: It's Psalm 51. [00:14:00]

Gary: Yeah. Have mercy on me. Oh God. Because of your unfailing love. This is after he screwed around with some lady and then K killed her husband. Um, and then Nathan, the prophet, came and skewered him and said, you are the man. Anyways, it's have mercy on me. Oh God. Because of your unfailing love, because of your great compassion.

Blot out the stain of my sins. Wash me clean from my guilt. Purify me from my sin. For I recognize my rebellion. It haunts me day and night against you. And you alone. Have I sinned? I have done what is evil in your sight. You'll be proved right in what you say and your judgment against me is just for I was born a sinner.

Yes, from the moment my mother conceived me, but you desire honesty from the womb, teaching me wisdom. Even there, purify me from my sins and I'll be clean. Wash me and I'll be whiter than snow. Oh, give me back my joy again. You have broken me. Now let me rejoice. Don't keep looking at my sins. Remove the stain of my guilt, creating me a clean heart, oh God, renew a right spirit in me.

Do not banish me from your presence and don't take your Holy Spirit from me. [00:15:00] Restore to me the joy of your salvation and make me willing to obey you. Then I will teach your ways to rebels and they will return to you.

Kyle: Isn't that awesome? That line, like what he asks, restore my, the joy of my salvation. He asks where his joy back.

Then he follows it up with, 'cause then I can tell other people about you

Gary: and make me willing to obey you. Yeah. Forgive me for the shedding of blood. Oh God. Who saves then I will. Joy fleeing of your forgiveness unseal my lips. So Lord that my mouth may praise you. You do not desire a sacrifice. Or I would offer one.

This is interesting. Yeah. You do not wanna burn. Offering the sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit. You will not reject a broken and repentant heart. People need to hear that. Yeah. You will not reject a broken and repentant heart. Oh God. Look with favor and Zion and help her rebuild the walls of Jerusalem.

Then you'll be pleased with sacrifices offered. So basically, um. You know, this is a pretty famous verse from Freedom Session. And he basically, this is where it's about repentance and [00:16:00] what true repentance looks like. And like people struggle with that. So we either flip flop on either side, right? Where there can be no grace, like in this case where people write this guy off, how could you have an affair for eight years?

Or on the other end where it's like, Hey, he said he was sorry, move on. Right. Well, no, there's consequences, right? There's consequences. Yeah. That's why

Kyle: we need to repent constantly. Like every week. Yeah. You know, like, like don't let it grow.

Gary: Yeah. I did feel, I'm, I'm preaching now and I really, when I listened to the last podcast, so I don't normally ever listen to this ever, but I listened to last week 'cause Marie was on it and she did the bulk of the talking about adoption and our journey and I felt like I really preached too much.

So I'm gonna stop talking now. You miss your calling.

Kyle: Well, we're gonna, I wanna move on to something else. I listened to a podcast last week that Tim actually listened to as well, but Bryce Crawford, who is a, um, a young guy, he's gotta be in his early twenties and he's kinda like a street preacher and he's very bold and very clear about the gospel.

But he interviewed Tucker Carlson, uh, and it is a phenomenal interview. It's probably one of the best interviews I've listened to in a long time. Um, [00:17:00] and, and Tucker's, um, answers are just so, so good. And there's one particular piece that I'll play, uh, of what he said, um, here, and then we can react to it.

But it is, is dynamite. Okay. Nine 20, what did I say here? Nine minute mark.

Okay. See that Gary? I joined too many of them, but, um, and I find myself thinking like. You know Mark Levin. Well, he's a pompous piece of whatever I think about Mark Levin, which I do think, by the way, and then I need to remind myself that, eh, so am I. So am I. Like I actually am no better than my persecutor on some most basic level, which is why I'm commanded to pray for them.

Gary: Mm.

Kyle: Yeah. Because it puts it all in. Both of us have fallen short of God, me and Mark Levin. Yeah. And Marco Vin. And neither one of us is gonna get into heaven, except by the grace of God, period. Why? Why do you think people are more tolerant of [00:18:00] their own scent than other people's? Well 'cause it's yours because it's so much easier to blame other people.

Of course. I mean, Jesus addresses this in Matthew and other places at great length and with specificity, you know, and he refers to the Pharisees first and foremost as what Hypocrites. They're attacking others for doing what they do. I was just reading this this morning, thinking and brooding about it.

And so, look, I, you know, I'm not in charge of the universe. I'm not God, which is something that's. It's gonna be posted on my refrigerator just to remind me I'm not God. So, you know, I don't know how in the end everything shakes out, but I know for a fact the temptation in my life is not to do cocaine or go to hookers or whatever the temptation is, to become puffed up and self-righteous and be filled with hubris and arrogance.

Like I am prone to that period. I am prone to that, and most men are, most successful men are really prone to that. Yeah. So [00:19:00] I just want the first battle in my life every day to be against my own. Inclination. Can, can we talk about that? 'cause I, I, I love, who's that guy? That's Bryce Crawford who interviewed him.

Never heard of him. I'd never heard of him before either. Yeah. Some young kid. Yes, he does. He interviews all kinds of people like, uh, non, a lot of non-Christian. Is he a Christian? Yeah, he is. Yeah. Okay. And very bold and strong out his faith. But anyway, Tucker is just really, really open about his own crap in this interview and that he is ultimately the problem, and that's what everyone needs to deal with, is like our own stuff first.

And, you know, even the self-righteousness, he talks about the Pharisees, Jesus responded to them like in adultery about like, if you've looked at a woman lustfully, you've committed adultery. Like who are you to point fingers and stuff like that. And I think it's like, it's really easy to do, to point other people's sins and not deal with their own stuff.

And, uh, anyway, he, he has a lot of other really, really good answers in this interview, so I definitely, uh, recommend people to, uh, uh, watch that. So it's Bryce Crawford podcast Tucker, episode 1 74.

Tim: It's [00:20:00] Tucker Carlson Whack job. No, no. A lot of people say that. That's just 'cause they don't listen to him and they've heard clips.

That's right. Yeah. He's honestly, he's lights out. Like some of his takes I think are a little suspect, but so are I, but like minor every other day, like if someone would listen to me like, don't like, but he's so good. He's so good. Where's his heart on his sleeve? Yeah. You know what he's thinking? It's, you can tell he's being authentic.

Every time he talks, he's telling you what he believes. He's not hiding anything.

Kyle: And, and sometimes that actually shocks you. And I'm be like, are you sure you should say that? But I'd rather have that than someone that holds back and isn't themselves. But what really, uh, struck me too that I'm thinking about it is he said that four years ago when the whole Black Lives Matter, things started happening.

He was like, this is, this is crazy. Like this isn't actually Republican versus Democrat. This seems like good versus evil. And then he started reading his Bible for the first time, really ever. Like he was an Episcopalian, so he never really read his bible much, never really was into his, that his faith. He called himself a Christian, but he said, I'm only gonna read one [00:21:00] book.

And that's the. He just started reading it and reading it and reading it and everything started to kind of like fall into place for him and started changing his life when he started doing that. Little surprise. Um, interesting. And, uh, yeah. And so I think a lot of people judge people from their whole career as well.

Like I'm sure he's, when you're online as much as he has been and record as much as he has been, you're gonna have a bunch of stuff out there that's probably crazy and things you regret saying. And he actually admits a lot of those things too. Things that you regret saying. And, and, uh, I mean, I certainly have that the longer I'm gonna be recording here, I'm gonna have that.

So, um, yeah. Anyways,

Gary: I guess that's it. Somebody asked me if I was gonna run for city Council. Oh, nice. And then I said, oh, there's 80 episodes of Felt and Degradation that people can go through to find all the things, the reasons that I shouldn't be a city counselor, but I lack

Kyle: Paul Henderson. Uh, the old, old, uh. A guy, he would obscure you.

So he, he, uh, posted, he does his own news now. Yeah. And he posted recently about a John Koopman, who is [00:22:00] a pastor local to here, um, from the FC Church Free Reform Church that, uh, shut down his church during COVID, or didn't shut down his church. Whoa, whoa.

Gary: Breaking the law. You're allowed to talk about him, but don't, don't misquote the story if you're gonna go that direction.

Kyle: Don't clip, don't clip that piece. Don't. Um, and so he got lots fines. My dad, my dad actually, uh, opened too, and he got, like, he got cops coming to house, getting him fines, but he, um, he got, I guess all the, all the charges got dropped. And so Paul Henderson, uh, posted this week. He goes, um, with news that fines for violating COVID guidelines handed out, handed to the rule, violating rule, violating right wing Christian pastors have been set aside.

Here again is my winter challenge to the smug John Koopman, whose building sits 95%. He sits empty 95% of the time behind razor wire while people suffer in the streets. What would Jesus do? No politicians are likely to ever touch this hot potato of a topic, but at least, but it is at least arguable that churches [00:23:00] should step up and honestly answer the what would Jesus do question when it comes to housing the homeless?

Or do we need to revoke their tax exempt status? I mean, this is not reporting, this is an opinion piece, which is what usually how Paul,

Tim: I, I know that church has had issues with people living behind it in the little, in the forest and bushes behind there. Yeah. And it's interesting where he took the picture.

'cause there's a picture on that article with the barbed wire. Mm-hmm. On top of the fence. And it's not actually like, he makes it sound like it's in front of the church and the church is surrounded by it. Hmm. But it's. He had to go trudge through a field to get the picture that he took. 'cause the fence is only on like the back half.

On the one side and the very back. Yeah. Yeah. Where it is. I just found that picture. But also, I think they

Kyle: put those fences up during COVID because people were, cops were coming into this during the servers or something else like that, so they wanted to, uh, block

Gary: that off. I, I mean,

Kyle: oh

Gary: man. And we're getting in the weeds.

I find it interesting. I it's a [00:24:00] valid question. Um, 'cause the homeless issue is obviously, I, I, I think about it even with our own home. It's like, Hey, are we supposed to be having, who should be living in our house? There's people that don't have a home. Um, but I just, I was, as I was on my fancy holiday, I was reading, uh, money Possessions and Eternity still, I'm still working my way through it.

I got work went from page 200 to 300 on my holiday.

Kyle: Yeah.

Gary: And he talks about that. He talks about practically like, Hey, does God have access to everything that we have, including our homes and not, not just our money or part of our money or whatever, however we view it. Yeah. Um, but he also talks about how, you know, the Bible says, Hey, if you don't work, you don't eat right.

So like. If you choose. And at some point somebody chose. And there again, it's, it's a very complex 'cause obviously people do drugs and make horrible choices for a thousand different reasons. And there's lots of grace for that. But if you perpetually make bad choices, like you don't just get perpetual handouts, like it's not even healthy.

It's why we're in the problem we're in, in our society. So the idea of, hey, like my question to Paul would be how many people live at your house? Like, how often have you had someone [00:25:00] sleep on your couch? Like, you know, it's, it's fair. Yeah. Like he's allowed to ask that question. Um, and my response would be, Hey, yeah, we should have open access to help people.

Um, we should probably start, you know, in our Christian community, make sure all our brothers and sisters are looked after. And even after that people just random people, we should be loving them. Well, yeah, but the idea of people being quote unquote lazy, never working, um, takers, thieves, doing all the wrong things.

And then we're gonna say, oh, you know, this church should help. Like. Have these people smash it. Like, but they also, we lost complete responsibility in our society. Right. And now we go to shaming people because they're doing something that we're not willing to do. It's like, you know what, knock it off.

Kyle: And, and if you look at like how much, uh, care goes into people that are hurting, um, in general in this world, it is predominantly by Christians.

Yeah.

Gary: Amen. That's the part that, and Paul, if he did any research, would know that Christians predo give predominantly to charity more than anybody else. So it's

Kyle: exactly. And you don't know of the members going that church, how much they're giving to the Salvation Army or outside [00:26:00] other parish church organizations.

Other, not every church has to be the spot where everyone meets or something. Yeah.

Tim: I had a question for you. Once you get elected as a counselor Yeah. How would you address the issue? What would you change? I have a hard,

Gary: hard, hard, hard, hard line stance. No drug use, no drug use, no harm reduction, no safe supply, nothing, no drugs.

So no. Listen, everything else, drugs for housing.

Tim: Or like for shelter, you mean? Or just house? House people, but have a

Gary: zero drug policy if you're being housed even on the

Tim: streets. Like just, or is that just for housing

Gary: you mean? No, I'm saying never. If you want free housing, 'cause there is a lot of housing in chiat hundred.

If you wanna get better and to help people, then you, and all we're doing is building more housing for people with government dollars. Like everywhere. Like look at the travel lodge across from that church. Yeah. Like every single person that goes to that church pays taxes and help pay for that building across the road.

Like it's, it's happening. You need to, it's just happening out of your control. It's, it's a government organization that feels the weight. And like I say, I do believe that it's our job to care for people. I mean, you know, the Bible also says, Hey, you walk by the [00:27:00] person, you know these people that you could be, could be me.

He says, right. You say we should

Kyle: be help 'em, and then you don't actually help 'em.

Gary: Yeah. I think the idea of like, you know, there's, everybody has a personal responsibility, but I think as, as a council and as a community, um, we're so worried about being shamed and being considered too tough. So instead we just take money that's not ours.

We takes tax dollars. Right. This is where government gets into it. That's why we have such deficit spending and such horrible problems in our economy because everybody's willing to spend someone else's money and no one's willing to spend their own. We need the carrot and stick approach. Like there's, yeah.

So if you, we've lost the risk reward. Yeah. And I think,

Kyle: but also enabling, I talked to, like, so I work at the shelter, salvation Army Shelter. Yeah. They're most

Gary: qualified to come right down there in the trenches. Are you gonna lose your job if you talk now? Or I guess I'll, you don't care.

Kyle: You find, I guess we'll find out.

Uh, uh, I, I, I love it there. It's one of my, I don't work that much. Like I only have one shift this month. Um, but, uh, last month was six or seven shifts. You don't, you just don't know. Just take what you got, whatever. But I, I like to talk to the other people that work there, and I'm like, do you think this is working?[00:28:00]

Like, and, and so one lady had been working in Vancouver for 10 years and doing the shelter work, and now she works in Chillowak. Um, and she's like, no, it, it, it, like, there is of course. Progress. Some guys do get free. There is like, it's not a zero. Nobody's getting free. It's very minimal though. But that when you're enabling and when you're giving free drugs and when you're giving everything for free, like there is, yeah, there is no incentive.

There has to be, um, that

Gary: system doesn't work. Isn't it interesting how, like in every other area, for instance, smoking is a great example. You are publicly shamed and it's, you're not allowed to do it anywhere that that's right. It's just like every kid is indoctrinated that it's horrible. Yeah. Yet for some reason, you know, if you're bent over and whacked out on fentanyl, all of a sudden it's like, Hey, where's the housing for this guy, this guy?

Like, you literally aren't even allowed to smoke like within 25 meters of a public. Like, and there again, I just don't get it. Right. Yeah. Smoking

Kyle: cigarettes is like the, it's like, it's one of those little, our

Gary: society has picked really weird things, right? Yeah. Did we already talk [00:29:00] about, uh, maid euthanasia?

Have we talked about that before? No. Okay. Talk about that was, well, it was very connected to this. It's this idea in our culture. Of, um, like even with these people. So I was downtown the other morning. I had a kid that couldn't sleep in the night, so I went for a drive in the wee hours in the morning with a kid, get 'em to go to sleep in the van, and I'm driving downtown and there's somebody whacked out.

And, you know, we're all, we're try, like everybody's trying to save this person, right? Um, who's overdosing, which makes sense. Um, 'cause life's important. Yet in the same day, there's people that are 50, 60, 70, depressed or have some form of cancer and they're allowed to instantly go. And say, Hey, I'm done. I'm done.

I'm done. Like, it's awful. And we're paying for it, like we're paying. So we're on one hand, we're fighting to keep people that are trying to kill themselves on the streets. They're literally trying, that's what you're doing right? When you're pounding back that amount of dope and not looking after your body.

So we're, we're spending all kinds of resources to keep these people alive. Yet on the other end, we have people that have reasonable family support, people that are cared for and or some people [00:30:00] aren't

Kyle: cared for. That's fair. A lot of people are super lonely, especially older generations. That's, they're very, very lonely.

But that's still, you know what I mean? We're just co It's not helping them. We're

Gary: co-signing, killing people on one end and on the other end, we're fighting to keep people alive that are actively trying to whack themselves. Well, both, even the babies. Even the babies. It's just, we've, anyway, we've lost our way.

Are

Tim: they actively trying to kill themselves or are they just

Gary: They're trying to escape. They're trying to escape and the ultimate escape

Tim: is death. Yes.

Gary: They think,

Tim: but those who they think do made, they can make that choice.

Gary: But they're not making it in a clear mind. No. When you're under DURs, you're not.

That's what's really terrifying, right? Yeah, that's true. All of a sudden you have a mental health crisis and it's like when the mentally ill can start, they're gonna, they start allowing it

Kyle: for kids pretty soon. Like when I was in, in the psych ward when I was nine, like I tried to kill myself and now they're getting close to like that being okay.

Like where I would've made that choice, probably not even with my parents or consent. Like I think they're pushing some of that, like to get it younger and younger, like for mental health issues as well. Yeah, I know the mental

Gary: health issues is a big one, [00:31:00] and you think about it, you wouldn't have the briefcase, the barn.

You're, if you're a kid, if you're a kid and you know, now you've, you've, you've cut off your breasts because you thought you were a different gender and all the adults around you co-sign that. Like you think you're gonna have a mental health issue when you're older, no big time you are going to have a mental health.

You already have one. Right? You obviously already have one, which is totally understandable. But instead of the adults being adults and people being rational and saying, Hey. You're a young person. As young people, we all struggle. We all have emotional issues. We all have hurt in our life. Let's just wait a bit, let's hold off on, this is something that is very permanent.

We can do it later. No, we, everybody's completely is We're in deep trouble.

Kyle: Yeah.

Gary: There's no more adults. There's no more adults. Well, and the thing is, if you are, then you're, you're a bigot and you're a hater and you get labeled. So diversity is fine as long as like it's not fine. It's the correct diversity.

It's the correct diversity.

Kyle: So what's the solution?

Gary: Ah, the, the compass, the post

Kyle: post more stuff on Facebook about how it's so terrible. Yeah.

Gary: Really rail on people in the comment section. No, the, the pendulum will swing and the results [00:32:00] will speak for themselves and they already are, and there's countries like the uk, Canada hasn't, hasn't come to their senses yet, but the UK they stopped we're the last ones.

We are the one left. But there's other countries that have stopped. Yep. The medical transitioning of minors.

Kyle: But I think also just for me, it puts more emphasis on, I think this is in large part happening due to the failure of the family. Uh, like the failure of likethe nuclear, the nuclear family of, of a healthy mom and dad in a home that give their kids security.

Like that. If you talk to a lot of the guys that I've worked talked to when I did prison ministry or in the like homeless guys, like their childhoods are, they all come from broken homes. Yeah, broken homes. And so I think it just puts more emphasis for me, on me, like, show up as a dad. Like invest in your kids.

Love them. Well give security to them because if I can raise three healthy boys that now when they're in their twenties are contributing member of society and can do the same thing and like it grows from there. I think that's really where like long-term change is gonna come from because they more, it's not, these are symptoms, they're not, I [00:33:00] think the core issue, a lot of cultures

Tim: don't have the kind of issues we have and I think that's because there's a lot more cultural shame.

Like you go to like countries like Japan. Or even, like, do you ever see like people who are Asian homeless people around here? It's, there's so much shame in their culture if you have a broken family. Mm. Whereas here, like it happened, what, like mid-century that it's kind of, it's been taught that it's okay for like single parent households.

It's even a good thing for single parent households. And there

Gary: again, 'cause people didn't wanna shame the, the single family, which I can understand that,

Tim: but, and that just compounds and compound. But there is consequences, but there is consequences. And now we have the consequences.

Kyle: Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I, I feel for, uh, families that are like mixed families, uh, what do you call that?

Is it, it's called blended. Blended family music. Um, it's difficult and, and, and there's a lot of like, you know, people, there can be redemption

Gary: there too, right? You really wanna be careful pi pigeonholing. Like, I think it's, [00:34:00] I think it's this idea of, hey, when, when everybody's sinful and when marriages have, you know, what?

You get to that spot where, hey, it's just not gonna work. Or you know, there's obviously one person's completely given up, or one person's a Christian and the other person leaves. Like, you're not gonna stiff arm your unbelieving spouse into being with you. Um, so I think you wanna be very gracious in the, in the approach of like, there's a lot of shame in churches around divorce.

Yeah. And I think. Far be it from us to label that. But I will agree with you where if you talk about, even as a city counselor, where are you gonna make a difference? You're not gonna make it in the 45-year-old that's whacked out on dope. It goes back to exactly what Kyle says. You look at our children and their parents and their lives that they had, how do you help in that spot?

How do you go back to when the kid is one and they need a stable home? And what we're having happen, this is where all these get in trouble, but like we have a system where we've gotten so politically correct and we're so paranoid about making the wrong thing where like, you know, siblings have to stay together or, and now we have it where kids get no stable family and they bounce from foster home to foster home.

I [00:35:00] mean, there's, there's, there's almost nothing worse than that. You think. How would you ever grow up thinking that you were wanted when you went, were in six different homes when you were a child? Simply because the rural state. And this is me being really blunt because the rules state that hey, you have to, you know, you have to be adopted with your three siblings.

Well, it's just not realistic. Like, how many people are adopting four? That's the other thing, right? A lot of these people have a lot of kids. Yeah. It's really crazy. Right?

Tim: So we put bandaids on everything and we never fix. Yeah, yeah. But it's money fixes

Gary: everything. Money

Tim: fixes everything. But

Kyle: no, like, yeah.

I think it goes back to dads, dad's gotta show up. Gotta lead. Lead by example. Deal with your crap. Uh, I got a note in here, uh, on dads. What do you admire most about your dad? Hmm. Gary, what do you admire most about your dad?

Gary: Um, my dad did the right, the right, the right things. Like my, my whole life. My dad always did the right thing.

And my dad always, [00:36:00] uh, my dad was very steady.

Kyle: And Was it the right thing?

Gary: Well, he is very reliable, like very like. I feel like in my case where, um, I guess I always kind of compare, I'm comparing to myself and how I'm parenting and I think how unhinged I am, and it's like, well, like my father's much more stable.

Um, and my father had his own, you know, his, his own life and his own stuff and struggles. But it's just like, hey, I think I respect the fact that he, yeah, he was just, he was reliable, right? He went to work every day. My dad also was very generous. I actually, I was just talking to Marie about it the other day 'cause my kids are starting to make a little bit of money or they get gifts for Christmas or birthdays or whatever and like, we're trying to, part of this, like trying to teach him to tithe on that.

And it's like my dad, I distinctly remember when I got my first check for. $650. It was like, you know, I worked at my first farm when I was 11 or 12, and my dad said, oh, you know what, we take 10%. And there again, it's like my dad's way more generous than even a 10% giver. But it was just like, Hey, you give it, you give it.

You give to the church, your local church. You support your church. And I think I [00:37:00] wasn't raised by somebody that was questioning the church leadership and oh, we shouldn't give because of this. It was just like, Hey, our call is to be generous. And he's always been that, he's been that with us. He's always been helpful, um, and in a healthy way.

Like my parents have always, but my dad, I think emulates that where it's like, Hey, let's help you. Let's not hinder you by la loading you up with, you know, more than your siblings. It was just like, Hey, we got, he helped co-sign for loans. Um, he was very supportive in that way. And so I think the generosity piece is probably the biggest.

'cause people often say to me, oh, you support Michael. I was raised with it. So don't underestimate. Interesting. Don't underestimate. Yeah. No, my dad was very, and even and the interesting thing is, is that they didn't have the money. Like, I, I won't say anymore 'cause I'm gonna be saying too much about my parents, but they did not have the money.

Like it was single income. I think I can say like, I think my dad is, I think he's in his seventies now, but he retired, you know, quite a while ago. But the most he ever made was 21 something an hour.

Kyle: That's wild.

Gary: Literally went to a private school [00:38:00] tithed, you know, now everybody's gonna say, oh, the Boomer bought a place in the country for 196,000, whatever, which is fair, right?

Then sold it for whatever. But the point is, is that like they made sacrifice and choices, and we weren't registered for all kind of sports. And there were, you know, we had lots of fun. We played roller hockey every day with the neighbor kids that we had a great childhood, but it was like, you know, there was just choices that were made.

Um, and I think Randy Elkhorn talks a lot about, in his book, you start by tithing regardless of your financial situation anyway, which is very difficult to do when you feel like you don't have the money. Right. So anyways, I think my dad, if I had to say that the, the number one thing would've been that I

Tim: would

Gary: think,

Tim: like, I have very similar answer to you.

Okay. Exact same answer, almost one thing I like, I still go to my dad. One thing I think that he is, uh, he's always got an answer. He's a pretty wise guy. Okay, cool. So I still go to him for advice. Cool. So

Kyle: like business stuff or what kind advice? Yeah,

Tim: business. Business stuff. Mostly that kind of thing. Just someone to bounce ideas off of.[00:39:00]

He's always got a good answer or at least an opinion

Gary: or the one you want. Yeah. Yeah. He's always telling me what I want to hear. So yes man, he's, yes man. No, he's, is he not or does he go? Not at all. Okay. Not at all. He'd

Tim: tell me exactly what he thought. Okay. That's awesome. And so I, I like that.

Gary: Have you ever totally deviated from what you're gonna do?

'cause he said, Hey Tim, I just don't think that's that smart. Or do you just go do it anyways?

Tim: No, not usually. Sometimes I'm just looking for a little confirmation from somebody else. Okay. But uh,

Gary: do you have more than one person like that in your life or would he be the main person that you would go have those conversations?

I'd say him. I

Tim: got a few people for business stuff. I would say him, like my younger brothers, my business partner. So what about faith? What about faith? That's kind of, what about

Kyle: faith and relationships?

Tim: Um, I don't talk with him really that much about that. I would say mostly I got a few people that I talk to, talk to the wife.

She's always got some good insight from me. Usually better than my own. So

Gary: is she pretty wise? Is your wife wise? Way wiser than, okay. That's awesome. So this is my wife. You cannot answer that question either way. There's a no. You [00:40:00] totally can. There's a few things. I die. She's dumb than a post. You can say it.

Tim: Few things I know better than her married her

Gary: for her lux man. Yeah. Well that's how it starts. Well, that's how it starts. Or not. I never found out she was wise, so later that was just a bonus. That's amazing. That's amazing.

Kyle: I married a Catholic too, so like that probably got you in trip.

Tim: Yeah, it did. But it was also the best thing I've ever done.

Good. Highly recommend marrying Catholic. Okay. No, actually that's not Why, why? Because

Gary: they have lots, wanna have lots of children?

Tim: No, it, that's basically the same as that's performed.

Gary: Yeah. No, the thing, oh man. I part a huge discussion with this before I came in and I said I was gonna talk, so I'm totally hijacking.

I'll stop if you were. Well, what I would

Tim: say about that is like, it just made us both. 'cause she grew up Catholic. I grew up reformed. So when you get married, like it was never really told to me, but it was kind of hinted that that might be unequally yoked as they would say. But I actually went out for lunch with uh, Matt, like, I don't know, a [00:41:00] month or two ago.

And he was saying, well, Matt who? Matt Keen. Okay. And, uh, he brought something up that I never thought about before. 'cause we were both not really Christians when we got married. So he's like, like we both went to church and stuff. Mm. You're not ally yolked there, but you're not ally yoked. No, but the thing that was good about it was it kind of made us both like question what we believed.

Yeah. And like believe for yourself, not just 'cause I see a lot of people. They just follow what their parents do. And like, you go to this church, you grew up in this church, you go there. Like, nothing wrong with that at all. But for me anyways, it really helped to like, were you guys shape my boys? Were you guys,

Gary: were you guys pretty aligned?

Like when you're wrestling, like, like you're in your, you're two three of marriage and you're trying to figure out marriage and you're having kids like, and now you're gonna start gonna church. Like, were you on the same page or was it like tension all the time or,

Tim: uh, no, I don't think there was any tension.

Like when we started going to the church we go to, it was just, we figured we should go to church because [00:42:00] that's like a good thing to do, the right thing to do. Okay. And like once you have kids, you're kind of like, oh, I'm, I gotta be responsible. And uh, so then we started gonna church and we just went to church where people we knew went.

So that's how we started. But then it really, you hear different things at different churches and you're like, well, I was never told that. Interesting. Like, what kind of lies were they telling me here? Yeah. So then,

Gary: yeah. Interesting. So

Kyle: that a question, uh, for myself, what do you admire most about your dad?

Um, he was the pastor of a thousand member church, which I think it's, it's gone down a bunch since then. But, uh, you're in a, you're in a pressure cooker situation and you get a lot of criticism and there's a lot of things that happened over the years. There was church splits, different things like that.

And I can probably count on one hand the amount of times he talked negatively about somebody. He almost never, ever did that. Never gossiped. Never gossiped. That's amazing. Never talked negatively. That's beautiful. Like I, uh, I know. So like, for example, there was an [00:43:00] eight, there was a, a split of my dad's church in like the early two thousands, uh, which started another church, uh, which is called the HC, which would've

Gary: been very difficult.

Kyle: Very difficult. Was it the HRC and. I know in other communities in Canada, north America where that split happened, there's still huge animosity between the two groups of people and stuff like that and all that. Like fighting. I I, I never heard any of that. Like my dad,

Gary: the coolest part is they all, they're all the same school.

It's awesome. I love it. Yeah. But they're, no, we should have more of that. That's right. It's just, yeah. Yeah. Good grief.

Kyle: But yeah, he never talked negatively. Like there was a few times, once in a while you could tell he was maybe frustrated or someone he got, but um, he, yeah, he wouldn't talk about negatively about take the high road and, and that's definitely, uh, yeah.

I, I really admire that. That's

Gary: that's what, that's why you do that.

Kyle: Yeah,

Gary: that's right. Take the hy road.

Kyle: Yeah, take the high road. I mean, like Yeah.

Gary: Water off a duck's back.

Kyle: Yeah. Whatever. I mean, not much you can do about it. I mean, I, I, I carried a lot for a long time. Um, and so it took a lot of work not to care [00:44:00] anymore.

To get

Gary: to let go. Yeah. Interestingly, on that, uh, the church topic I was at, um, the engagement party the other night with you.

Kyle: Okay. Yeah.

Gary: And, um, the NRC church in Chillowak, I got the whole history of how it started. Oh. From the kids of the pastor. Oh, okay. Who are now Oh yeah. Reverend Roma. Yeah. It was really cool.

Oh, nice. It was really humbling. It was a beautiful story.

Kyle: Yeah. I know the man, I, I don't, don't know much about that guy, but I know here he loved Jesus a lot. He talked, oh, he,

Gary: he was a, it sounded like he was a class act. I mean, it was just even the history of kind of like how the church started and there's actually, that's why I'm talking about the different churches doing the school together.

Like when that church started, everybody had come from Holland. Yeah. Well, they didn't all go to the same church in Holland. But they all got here and of course there's so few of 'em at first, you know, in the fifties or whatever. I don't wanna butcher the story. I'm sure I'm gonna butcher the story now, but I'm sure these people don't listen to this anyway, so it doesn't matter.

But it was just interesting how they come there and like this guy was. Not wanting to be a [00:45:00] pastor at all. And basically it was called by the Lord and had the affirmation piece is really special. Hmm. Um, but it was just cool how like, hey, all these people, they just had to get along and that's how we all should be.

That's what the Bible literally tells us to do. It tells us to put aside our petty differences to be unified in Christ. And it's just funny how we do anything but that like, oh no, these people want chairs. These people want pews. Okay. We're splitting churches, these people, and I mean, it's obviously way more than that and there's doctrinal differences, but the doctrine is like, we're literally reading from the same doctrine.

Yeah, yeah. Like the same doctrine book we're reading from the same, you know, back of the salter. We interpret things a little bit differently. There's different emphasis put on different things. And I just think that there's something really special about putting aside your petty differences as Christians and, and we have it at every denomination.

It's not just that church I'm, I'm saying we all can split hairs over really lame things and I just thought it was really cool to hear the original story and to think, I think there would be great health. My personal opinion was. So I was gonna talk to you about getting the story on here. Okay. There would be great benefit to people that go there now to hear that story.

[00:46:00] Oh, okay. Interesting. From, yeah, because I think I like to share. I think that very quickly you forget, we forget our roots, we forget,

Kyle: and it matters. Our culture matters like our roots. It does matter.

Gary: And I think it, I think once you veered from that, it's like, Hey, why? Why have we and how do we get back there?

And I think you can get back there. And I think that when there's humility by people and just realizing that. We don't need to be divided. Right. Just, it was pretty cool. Anyways, that was, you were there too, but you weren't part of that conversation. You were out with the young people.

Kyle: Yeah. I wanted to be, stay young anyways, uh, this past Sunday in Minneapolis, um, uh, so this gen, this would've been January 18th.

Uh, a mob of agitators, uh, stormed a church service in St. Paul, Minnesota. Uh, on Sunday to protest ice. And, uh, the guy, the pastor, I think his name is Jonathan Farrell, um, he wrote, uh, a lot for Desiring God ministries. I read a bunch of his stuff. Uh, he's a pretty, uh, um, standup dude. Um, but I was curious about how we would respond if that happened to us.

Like if [00:47:00] this Sunday in church, uh, a whole huge group of people came in and started screaming and hollering and saying, how could you and this and that, like, how, how, what's the proper way to respond to that? Like, he, he, he got off the pul butt and he is like, shame on you for doing this. Like, this is, you're interrupting.

Like you're, this isn't how you communicate. Uh, and tried to get things done, but I, I, I don't know. I don't know what I'd do. I'd probably just watch like,

Tim: yeah, I don't know what the right thing to do. I think that guy didn't, doesn't he actually work for ICE part-time or some, somebody involved in the story?

Yeah. Someone thought he

Kyle: supported ice, I think. Or supported the picking up

Tim: of, of, of, uh, I think there's someone who's involved in that story who actually works for ice. Okay. And so they knew they were there, if I'm remembering correctly. Yeah. But I have, I don't even know what you do in that situation.

'cause sometimes those mobs can be pretty angry. That's right. Yeah. And like there's a lot of protests happening right now in Minnesota. Yeah. Like constant every single day. Yeah. And uh, I wouldn't wanna be there. Yeah. Yeah. What would you do? [00:48:00]

Gary: I don't, I don't have an opinion on that.

Kyle: If, if Central got stormed on Sunday with a whole bunch of people going crazy, like, what, what is the.

What do you do?

Gary: I, I, I feel like I thrive in those circumstances. I know that, but I'm just curious. Like, I don't know why I would just be engaging in conversation. Just talk, talking to, just talking to 'em. Why are you guys so worked up? What's going on here? We probably don't think that differently than you think

Kyle: everyone's standing up and just have a one-on-one conversation with people.

Start praying for em. Yeah. I

Gary: dunno. I just think

Kyle: it's tough. I mean, I think this kind of stuff's gonna start happening more and more and, and, and like it's not, we're not gonna have this like safe church spot where it's always comfortable and everything's going right, like the pressures are coming.

Gary: Do you agree with people, mask to men going around communities, loading people up, deporting them

Kyle: if they're in the country illegally?

Yeah. Like if I jump across the border and don't go to the states properly and, and sneakily get in there and I try to go make money and, and it's not my country illegally. Yeah. And then someone run and then, and then uh, someone rats me out and says, Hey, this is where he [00:49:00] lives. And they come running in and take me.

Well, I did. Like, I believe in immigration, but do it the right way. Go the right proper channels. And that's what they're doing. They're not getting people that are there legally. They're getting people that, you know, they did it. Are they, are they not?

Tim: 70% have criminal convictions or are criminals. Yeah. And I think there's 1% of the people who have been temporarily detained or asked have been US citizens.

Okay. That that's the

Gary: part that, to me, that would become pretty intimidating. Like Yeah.

Tim: But that's why you have, ID like people do have the right to ask you sometimes for ID the authorities do. Yeah. At certain points. But what is the answer to, there is no good way to solve this. No, it's pretty messy, man.

It's, it's a, it's pretty messy.

Gary: Especially some of these illegals have been there 25 years. Right. A lot divided,

Kyle: um, um, administration. They figure around 10 million illegals came in.

Tim: How, how I would solve it. 10 million in. So that's in the last four years. How solve it, Tim? Well. I wouldn't [00:50:00] solve it. But what I would do is if you guys are gonna stay, I would let them stay, like, not the ones who've been here for five minutes, but somebody who's been there for a long time and give 'em the option.

Be like, you can leave and you can become a citizen properly. 'cause the big worry is they're gonna have, um, like a way to vote. That's the big worry. That's right. That the one side is having, so it's just like, you can say, unlike Canada, that you never can vote. You can never become a citizen, you can become a permanent resident, but you're never gonna be able to vote.

If you do want that Right to vote, you have to leave. But now your children would be citizens, right? They're Yeah. By default through birthright citizens. Yes. Okay. So they're, they're just trying to import.

Kyle: They're voters. Yeah. Because in the US in a lot, there's a bunch of states, I dunno how many there are at least more than five, where you don't need voter ID to vote.

That is insane. Nothing that is insane. Nothing like that. Canada, who's way more crazy liberal. You have to show your license. It gets like referenced on the paper, like you're actually registered and stuff like that. That makes sense. Right.

Tim: But there's, and that's any id, 'cause there's like half the states, it's just like [00:51:00] you need to show like your water bill or whatever.

It's not even photo id. That's right. Like a lot of them don't require photo id. Yeah.

Kyle: Yeah. Which is wild that it's wild. I mean, a lot of these cities are, people aren't feeling safe anymore and stuff like that. And, and, and it's picking these people up. The way they're doing it is, is it's not ideal. But that's

Gary: unnerving.

I guess that's where I was coming for that question. Or it's just like, I think anytime that you have people in power with guns, it's like, you know, hey, I think that's necessary. I think it's not necessary for a healthy society. That's what cops are. That's what cops are. I just think you come into a spot where now you're grabbing people.

Some of these people have been around for a long time in a c. It doesn't create, uh, civil rest in a healthy society, is what I'm saying. And I'm not, I'm not disagreeing with you. I would, I would agree that if people are coming in illegally, they should be deported. I'm, I'm not opposed to that. I think so.

How do deport,

Kyle: how do you get 'em to come? I don't dunno. I just, because that doesn't cause that, that doesn't cause rest either. Right.

Gary: I just see the dudes with a, with assault rifle and a, and a bandana on and I think, oh boy. Like you're scared. This, this, this terrible optics. This does not look good, man.

[00:52:00] Like, no, no. I think taking away the voting, it's also why I would never give up more guns. Right. It's just like, keep your guns out. Well,

Kyle: on that note, I got an email this morning, uh, notice to individual firearms owners assault style firearms compensation program. Oh, the buyback. The buyback. I got an email this morning.

This, this is humorous. And I was told that I, you have like three months in this year to buy 'em back. If, and if you don't hand them in. Uh, you're, uh, the band rifles, then you are in contempt of this new law. Yeah, yeah. And you can get screwed. But then I heard today also that Manitoba's Premier said they're not gonna follow through with it.

And Alberta's, I'm sure David Eeb in BC is going to, uh, enforce this. Yeah. But this is, this is wild to me. Like, like you're only gonna get against back

Tim: from the honest people. Did you hear how many they got back? 12,000. 12,000, I thought. Yeah. It was a lot less than 12,000. Really? Yeah. It's 22 million. It was 23 million.

Yeah. No, that's how many million dollars the spent to get that money back? To get them back. But I think 12,000 guns. Yeah. 'cause I got that email too. It's still too many. And [00:53:00] the only way that we're gonna keep our guns is if the States keeps that, uh, second Amendment. I

Kyle: think then we'll still have some sort of, we do have some sa, we're basically a European country.

Uh, that's because we're attached to the states. There's some semblance of hope. So what do they do on the buyback? Um, what do they do with the actual guns that they destroy? I actually know a cop that, uh, that, that when they confiscate rifles that sometimes has to take him to like the, a, a spot in Richmond or something else like that, where he has to watch 'em get destroyed.

Oh, really? Yeah. And he said there's some sick rifles. Yeah, I bet that get destroyed. Yeah. Yeah. I think, I think it just, yeah. I

Tim: think if the states didn't have a Second amendment, our guns have been gone a long time ago,

Kyle: so I did ask myself the question about this, like, about people that have restricted firearms about giving them back or not.

Like what would the Christian thing to do? Like if somebody came to Jesus and said, Hey, definitely give them back. Have to Caesar after Caesars. You know, you gotta follow the law. Oh man.

Tim: Yeah, [00:54:00] I know. Like it's, it's, uh, it's rough. None of my guns are illegal, so I'm fine. So the

Gary: pro, the, the buyback that happened.

They spent about 150,000 and they got 12 guns back.

Kyle: Well, the, is that on the recent project? Yeah,

Gary: that was, that was just a little test run. Right? That's pretty successful. Okay, so I got, the target was 225. Sorry, the actual, that's,

Kyle: it was 25. Well, at least they sent the Barlow. Okay. So the email this morning from the government, it says over 12,000 of these prohibited firearms were successfully collected from businesses from across Canada.

Oh, more than 22 million in compensation has been provided to these businesses. Um, and then it tells you, yeah. So by, uh, this spy back starts on January 19th, 2026, and ends on March 31st, 2026. So, small window, um, after March 31st, uh, declaration requests won't be processed anymore. Um, and it's scheduled to end.

This amnesty is scheduled to end on October 30th, 2026. Uh, [00:55:00] and if they're not all prohibited, firearms and devices must be disposed or. Of or permanently deactivated prior to that date. If you remain in possession of the impacted firearm following this date, you'll be noncompliant with legislation breaking the law.

How will they know? Let's get this guy out of office.

Tim: Yeah,

Kyle: well they, they know who has a, it's all registered. Who is restricted firearm. Well, yeah.

Tim: Restricted. Yeah. Yeah. But they've made some of these restricted, yeah. So then I guess

Gary: know. No, they wouldn't have a clue. No. It's totally based on the honor system.

What do you uh, I was gonna ask Tim this, 'cause I got in trouble yesterday. I had lunch with someone and they said I'm too negative. Well, how, what do you feel is the state of the economy right now? Like you're in building, you would know. Is it brutal? Well, I don't think it's, it's going

Tim: nowhere. Good. Okay.

Um, like do you have friends

Gary: and stuff

Tim: that aren't working then? Or why would you say that? Yep. Yep. Okay. I've seen that. I think, well, what I see is like the amount of empty condos that you have towards a city, the amount that we have being built here in [00:56:00] Chillowak is insane to me. You also hear about like.

Different developers offering more incentive programs, lowering rent rates, just baiting people to take place, that kind of thing. Trying to just get people to move in.

Gary: Still in the early stages of that, right, there's a lot of buildings that hadn't been built yet that we're working on building until, uh, huge buildings.

Yep.

Tim: Really big.

Kyle: You think it's gonna happen? The guys that have a big, big pockets and have a few apartments, they can lower their rates enough to get it filled, but then the people that have like suites in their homes can't because they can't go get those rates. I think

Gary: everybody

Kyle: will just lower the rates.

It'll all lower together,

Gary: happen gonna happen. That'll be for happen. It'll be good for consumers. Yeah. It'll be deflationary but horrible for our economy.

Tim: Yeah. And that's the only thing we have in our economy. Real estate. Real estate. It's a real estate economy. Like we basically agreed to pay each other insane amounts of money for our houses.

Yeah. And so we're, it's a Ponzi scheme that we're all just like agreeing together until the one chip falls. Imagine you're a realtor

Kyle: and you get percentage off all these sales. Oh man. We don't want the housing prices to fall,

Gary: we don't want the housing prices to [00:57:00] fall less commission. They're the ones who are pushing.

They're pretty bad. I would agree with you. Yeah. It's not the most honorable profession. There are great realtors and very honorable realtors, but there's some that are total snakes.

Tim: I, I think it's heading nowhere. Great. We, what else do we have to support our economy? Nothing. Oil and gas. Yeah. Oil and gas.

We have that baby. Don't use that. No, we don't. Should, we don't use that. I don't think we will either. It'd be the only reason

Gary: I'd ever really wanna be involved in politics at a higher level to get that, to push things like that, to build pipelines, to get our infrastructure in place. We could be so rebuild, build new highways.

Like let's just, let's go back to what built this country. Yeah. Yeah. We could be so wealthy. Yeah, we could be. I think we should end on that. We could be so wealthy. Yeah. Okay. Everybody that listens to this wants to be really wealthy, that I know for sure.
