Gary: Celiac, lactose intolerance, oil [00:02:10] sensitivities, cis straight guys. We don't have those. We don't have those. It's incredible what our bodies are [00:02:20] capable of. We don't, you know, and it's like, instead we'll have years, decades of unexplained diarrhea, but.[00:02:30]

Which is always the case. Yeah. And which is always the case. And I was just like, well, you know, so I, I told them what I said on the podcast and they said, you need to, to check your pile.

Matt: They said, just. You don't have the full [00:07:20] story. And I said, well, what is it? And he was just like, it's not my place to say, but that's not all of it. So I mean, it's so frustrating, right? Because

Speaker 5: you know, that must make [00:07:30] you feel really crappy. That's what they say, because you really thrive on being fired up and being right, because I said that and being right.

Matt: Yeah. Like I said, that with conviction, I mean, I could still be right, [00:07:40] but I mean. Doesn't look like it.

Gary: You say everything with a conviction. What, what's a million dollars or something like that, that they got given, [00:07:50] uh, to like, to buy the birds out? I'm not,

Matt: I'm not sure. I don't even know if that kind of stuff has been published or pub publicized.

Speaker 5: can [00:08:00] assure you guys as someone that deals with people that have birds that get not killed all the time, there is money being compensated from CFIA for birds being killed. Well, this is the one where my kids seen it on Pinterest when they were with Nicole.

Gary: Oh, okay. Yeah, we got feedback from that. So I'm sorry your kids were exposed to that image. Keep them off of it if you can. It's hard to, [00:09:40] couldn't keep my kids off of it. My oldest, um, uh, child who has that trans, who has transgender trouble, got into all kinds of [00:09:50] online. Shit. And was, it was through Pinterest.

Gary: Nobody thinks of Pinterest as a problem, but it's a gateway. Um, she is, what's [00:10:00] Pinterest anyway? Pablo's

Gary: What, what is, what's Pinterest? I'll, I'll finish this comment first. Oh, okay. Matt really sucks at [00:10:10] listening, um, and found art groups on Pinterest and, uh, had furries and, and gay imagery.

Gary: Um, she met a guy on the chat groups, [00:10:20] uh, who was six years older than her, and she was barely a teenager. Um, and yeah, so he goes on a little bit, uh, with that part. And though it was, was through Pinterest though, [00:10:30] which is a very innocent. So that you would think, you know, if your kid's on Pinterest doing art stuff, you're like, oh, that's fine.

Matt: Oh, wait a minute. Is that like a, like people put up photos of their work craft or [00:10:40] crafts? Oh yeah. I've, I've, I've seen home

Speaker 5: decor, all kinds of stuff. You have your own board and it's a porn.

Matt: They got a porn site. Now everything turns into that. Right? It goes

Gary: to that stuff that, that's how they got into it.

Gary: So they, [00:10:50] they put, they leather their kid. Go on there. You know, there's probably applicable links that are fine. Then the links take you to horrible places. That's crazy, man.

Speaker 5: Yeah, the Internet's a crazy place, eh? Oh yeah,

Gary: yeah, that for sure is true. Another, [00:11:00] another, uh, uh, feedback on that same episode. Just wanted to share a suggestion in regards to porn of abuse, keeping your children safe.

Gary: And my husband and I are almost finishing nine week series. Our church [00:11:10] hosted called Into the Light. Highly recommended. I believe this video content is free and you just have to buy the workbook if you choose to do it with others. We loved it and learned a lot. Ironically, tonight session is about how to talk to your children [00:11:20] about.

Gary: Do children when not if they're exposed to porn, looking forward to it. I wanted to share, so

Matt: we spoke to our kids real early about it. Okay. I think by the time [00:11:30] Samuel was 10, we were having conversations with like appropriate. You know, images and sexuality and we opened up the conversation [00:11:40] real, real quick.

Gary: Yeah. So we had, a couple episodes ago, we had, I, I shared that Nicole was on Pinterest with Malachi and Peter and Peter's four and Malika's eight. And she clicked an image and click a thing [00:11:50] and it brought, and so the, the boy has seen it when she was there. And so it had a, have the conversation already.

Gary: That sucks, right? Yeah, it's wild.

Matt: And then we got one more. And you can't protect, I don't think [00:12:00] you can protect them like you can, you can protect them, but I don't think you can do. I don't think you can completely keep them. Educate them eventually. Yeah. Yeah. Educate 'em on what to eventually they're [00:12:10] gonna break through it, they're gonna

I think he just shares only 40% of his [00:12:30] opinion and holds back the other 60%.

A couple of games with them, and when I left, my first response was to start watching poker online. [00:15:40] And I was like, no, you and I are kindred

Speaker 5: spirits. After all I knew, I knew there was something that drew me towards being kind.

Speaker 5: It's because we both love Ga. I, I've,

Matt: if it wasn't for Jesus, I'd be dead. Right. Like, [00:15:50] no, that's fair. My testimony on your podcast. But yeah, I, I I just can't, like all three of us would be there. I can't feel, yeah. I can't feel freedom playing [00:16:00] games that I associate with gambling.

Speaker 5: Okay. Dot think it's wrong to play for money in any way.

Speaker 5: Gambling is a tax on the poor.

Matt: Yeah. Or worse in general, or worse. It's worse. It's a blatant exploitation of the poor.

Matt: It is everywhere nowadays, like sports and stuff like that. Sports

Speaker 5: betting drives me insane. [00:16:30] It is crazy. I guess I've always looked at poker as more. I mean, obviously somebody's losing the money and obviously you're playing for money, so that's why I asked you if you have a problem with actually [00:16:40] people playing games for money.

Matt: No, you can do whatever you want. I don't care. Well,

Speaker 5: no, I mean, I'm not more, more, you can't do it. You can

Matt: if you want. It's up to you. Like, stay in my backyard. I don't care. Should, [00:16:50] should you. No, that's different. That's question. Well, that's what I was asking. That

Speaker 5: You gotta be careful giving a legalistic answer on it. I just feel like, um, anyways, we [00:17:00] were playing poker

Speaker 5: For a small amount of money. 'cause poker's pretty hard to play meaningful game of poker with people if there's not some money behind it. And if you've never played poker, you wouldn't [00:17:10] even understand that.

Speaker 5: Yeah. But if you have played poker, so we were playing with these young guys, um, a bunch of. Like early twenties and it was just fascinating hearing their, like [00:17:20] we got into, they stayed till one in the morning or something. We got this, which we don't normally stay up that way anymore. Yeah. But it was just interesting hearing their perspective on dating.

Speaker 5: And some of them are dating and some of them aren't. And just hearing [00:17:30] them talk about like how they view, like what a wife's gonna be and like Marie down and we're both just standing there scratching our head and I'm going on my typical rants, like at one point, standing up on the table yelling about, [00:17:40] you know, old marriages, how old know.

Speaker 5: Uh, 42. 42 standing on the table talking about yelling about how hard marriage is right. Preaching right. And uh. We're old

Matt: now, man.

Speaker 5: No, no, no, [00:17:50] no. I just had lunch with a 72-year-old guy who's a realtor and he's like, you just in prime. Well, compared

Matt: to an elderly person, you're not old. But compared to a 20 20-year-old, year old,

Speaker 5: look at me as an old man and I still [00:18:00] think I'm one of 'em, and it's just embarrassing.

Gary: It is. It is. Like we're everybody's mortified. What were some of their ideas on marriage that were. Totally whacked.

Speaker 5: Well, they just have such a unique, and there, again, I'd be curious, I think [00:18:10] everybody would land somewhere on the spectrum of this, but like they have this idea of like, meeting this woman who's gonna meet all their needs and they're gonna be so happy and always feel a certain way about her.

Speaker 5: I'm like, you're in blue man. Well, that's [00:18:20] what, that's what happened to me. Is that how you feel? That's exactly what happened. Because she tells you to,

Matt: I, I met the woman of my dreams. She's met all my needs. Yeah, she's absolutely perfect. Yeah. All the [00:18:30] time.

Speaker 5: Yeah. Well obviously you don't need a woman who has a bra.

Matt: not. Except for when she's not perfect all the time. And then she's just like,

I'm always the first to [00:19:00] apologize, which means I've been defeated every time, every flippant time. You're probably wrong every time. No, I'm not.

Matt: She's probably right. In fact, you know, [00:19:10] statistics would show that you'd be right at least half the time. I'm right at least half the time.

Gary: If you actually knew how hard marriage was. At 20, would anybody get married?

Speaker 5: No. Yes they would. Yes they [00:19:20] would. But they should go. Yes, they would. To some degree they would, but they, but they would go in, if they went in with more realistic expectations, first of all, if they knew there was gonna be struggle and conflict [00:19:30] and how I, I ignorant their spouse was gonna be, and how unhappy they were.

Speaker 5: Speak for yourself. Sorry. They would, they would reach out sooner when they're struggling. Yeah. Often when people finally reach out, [00:19:40] there's so, there's so much carnage and hurt that it's almost impossible to talk about it if you very quickly are like, okay, this is not what I thought. This is a disaster.

Speaker 5: What is happening here and there again, [00:19:50] some couples don't have that. I mean, I'm paint brushing now, but. It was unique. I brought it up. I was at a fundraiser on with you.

Speaker 5: Avoiding my own, no. I mean, I will admit, I've been to counseling. I went to counseling long before I helped anybody else get to counseling.

Speaker 5: [00:20:20] Like I'm not, and I'll go again. I just think you see it very, when I heard these guys railing about what they expected, their who they thought they were gonna marry, I'm like too, people spend [00:20:30] too much time watching shows on Netflix, man.

Matt: Well enough talking about gambling. Let's move on.

Speaker 5: Is marriage gamble?

Matt: I think at, at the beginning, like it's a [00:20:40] gamble. Like Fiona committed her whole life to somebody like me. That's a gamble. That is a big gamble. That's a huge gamble, right? And chips just go on the table and she, she scared to the, she like conversion [00:20:50] essentially. Does she flirt and convert? No, no, no, no, no.

Matt: Like I was, I was, when she met me, I was converted, but, but she knew my story. Oh. Probably six minutes. [00:21:00] Oh. Oh, how, how, how, when did I get saved to at 23? I don't know. I was probably saved for like five years or something like that. You mean

Gary: Nicole that didn't fight for like, the six years, for six, seven years we were married.

Gary: Did you ever [00:21:10] talk or? No. Okay.

Matt: Uh, but she, she gambled on me. Fiona did, right? Like she didn't know. Yeah. I'm not sure [00:21:20] my in-laws were pleased with her decision at the beginning, right? Like they just hear who's this guy that, he's got this testimony where he used to be a drug addict and now you're married [00:21:30] marrying him.

Matt: We don't know. She was from Australia like it was. That's wild. It was a gamble. So I think in a lot of cases,

Gary: well again, brings us into our topic marriage that we, uh, pause [00:21:40] on last week. Can be like gambling arranged marriages. You, you four arranged marriages.

Gary: You wanna pick a wife for your son?

Gary: Japan is preparing 110 billion stimulus package. China has approved a 1.4 trillion stimulus package.

Speaker 5: Painting? Yeah. What is that? Quantitative tightening. Okay. The US is issuing a

Gary: 1.9 trillion in treasuries per [00:28:00] year in treasuries per year. Yeah. New money, new money. Canada is restarting. Its, uh, quantitative easing program. Global M two money supplies at a record of 137 trillion, [00:28:10] and the global rate cuts are at 320 plus over the last 24 months.

Matt: Oh my goodness. You know what that tells me? In what?

Gary: Yeah. What does that tell in what world? Is there another wave of inflation? Not on its [00:28:20] way. What does it tell you, Matt, in

Matt: inflation? What does it tell you, Matt? All of that, what you just said. That's the first time I heard it. Uh, global financial collapse.

Matt: I listened to, um, that is nuts. I know. I've not heard of that. Like, that's crazy. Those are real numbers basically. You're basically putting more air in a balloon that's [00:28:50] about to pop.

It was a telecom company that went broke in the early two thousands, was part of the dotcom bubble. Mm-hmm. And [00:29:40] it's just fascinating studying history. Guest. Gary: I remember that. Oh, yeah. And they screwed a whole bunch of people. I all, it was all fake, every fake accounting. Well, it was,

Speaker 5: [00:30:10] when you say screwed a bunch of people. Yeah. There was some schism going on for sure.

Speaker 5: No different than, you know, probably similar to Enron and other companies that have done similar things, but it was more [00:30:20] that I. It was a darling company and it was similar to like AI's a darling company, companies. Company, well companies like Nvidia or companies, you know, like that. Um, and what's fascinating, what is the phrase

Matt: at [00:30:30] Darling Company like?

Matt: They were getting all kinds of incentives and stuff like that. No,

Speaker 5: and they were just a stock pick favorite, like, you know, and then similar, your comment was fascinating that you just said. What percentage of the s and p [00:30:40] 500, like if you go back in the history of time and you look at any company that becomes an anomaly.

Speaker 5: It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy because comp other companies [00:30:50] that are investing like, you know, the Ontario Pension Fund and the Canadian Pension Fund, they have to by, you know what the parameters that they've set up have to hold a certain amount of these stocks in [00:31:00] their portfolio. Right? And of course, these are people's pensions and eventually.

Speaker 5: People's pensions are built up on quote unquote, you know, bubble companies, right? Mm. Which

Matt: can be

Speaker 5: pretty [00:31:10] catastrophic. So it's fascinating. Now, it happens

Matt: all the time, like it

Speaker 5: does, if you looked at the stock market now, and I mean these stats are out there everywhere and people that are, you know, bulls in the market would say this [00:31:20] time is different and AI's gonna change things and the world is changing.

Speaker 5: And to some extent I would agree with it in the sense that there's being so much new money. Print it outta thin air. Now that's ridiculous [00:31:30] that, that theoretically things probably are different this time, but they would say, but my, but the response would be if you look at the stats based on where we are at in a [00:31:40] trajectory of stock prices and companies and valuations, you know, being 23 times earnings, which is insane.

Speaker 5: Um. You know, we're basically due to have a decade of literally zero growth. Like if you [00:31:50] looked at 2000, I think it's, you know, nine, 2000 in particular, and 1930 were worse. They were worse than 2008. 2008 was bad too. I think it's worse now though, Gary, because why do think it's worse?

Matt: Because fiat [00:32:00] currencies have been so devalued because they're They're underpinned by nothing.

Speaker 5: Yeah. But they're all equally connected to each other. So why do you think that matters then?

Matt: Well, so [00:32:10] in like the two thou or the, sorry, in the nine, early 19 hundreds when the stocks crashed, you still had, so the stock market crashed, but you still [00:32:20] had, there was faith in government bonds like you still had, but that's gone now.

Matt: So you people could retreat into the safety of a safe country. IE. [00:32:30] Britain, United States or whatever, we don't, and buy the bonds. Yeah. We don't have that now because these safe nations, these safe governments, you know, their bonds are as worthless [00:32:40] as the, their currency as Yeah. Right. They're as worthless as currency, which is as.

Matt: Uh, could quickly, uh, uh, fall to nothing, just like [00:32:50] the stocks. So, uh, um, for example, you got the United States, uh, claiming now they're, what is it, 40 trillion in debt?

Speaker 6: Yeah. Yeah.

Matt: So, uh, and, and, and [00:33:00] their currency is, is underpinned no longer by anything. Right. Except, well, oil and, and, and, and

Speaker 5: they're military.[00:33:10]

Matt: How, uh, I don't under, but you mean their military strength? Yes. Yeah. Okay. Their military strength. But it's still, it's still nothing to have, like there's still nothing to be confident [00:33:20] in with regards to the investments of that nation. So you have. If you have the dollar that is, even though it is powered by or [00:33:30] lifted up by a military that's strong, if there's nothing at all upholding that dollar, then eventually people are gonna want something for it.

Matt: Well, they

Speaker 5: are. If you look at, and [00:33:40] it's interesting, even you look at the Japanese bond, right? Yeah. And Japan's been printing money longer than any other country. Yeah. Doing, and they're, people are starting to question government. They're lending. Lending.

Matt: [00:33:50] They're a lending economy. They're economy,

Speaker 5: and they're, and they're an aging population.

Speaker 5: Mm-hmm. Which I would say in North America, outside of immigration, is totally our issue too. Like we are not. We do not reproduce [00:34:00] at a healthy enough rate to really have sustainable B. Have more kids. More have more kids. Yeah. El Musk could say that

Matt: the good excuse is it's [00:34:10] really unaffordable to have a lot of kids.

Matt: I called bs. I disagree with that. I don't know. In, in Australia, years ago, they. Incentivized having babies and it worked. How did they do that?

Speaker 5: They basically, they [00:34:20] incentivize 'em here too. How you get tax

Matt: dollars for having kids. There's not, yeah, but it doesn't, I don't think it evens out. Like, what do you mean evens out?

Matt: Like for example, when Australia did it, I think it [00:34:30] was like 15 years ago or longer, or maybe even 20 years ago, they basically said, so anything having to do with small children. The government would incentivize [00:34:40] with like payout pet payments, so you would get a lump sum bonus, childcare became free or whatever for X amount of time that the kids were in [00:34:50] childcare and they had a population boom.

Matt: So now that's paying off 20 years later. However, like I don't think there's anything like that to incentivize having [00:35:00] many kids here, county can I

Gary: pop Poland's new law for families with two or more kids. They get like a big tax break now too.

Speaker 5: Yeah, they do. That was insane. Did I put what the tax break was, or not even?

Speaker 5: No. [00:35:10] I'll, I'll look it up. Yeah, look it up a minute. Where in Canada though, Matt? People get like, and I don't know the exact number, but if you're a low income person or you know, if you're under 38,000, $40,000 a year [00:35:20] here. Mm-hmm. You know, for each person mm-hmm. In a, in a married couple, I'm thinking you get five to 600 bucks a kid, which is like, it's not a huge amount, but it's, it's substantial.

Speaker 5: Yeah. But, but would [00:35:30] you not call that an incentive,

Matt: but then, but then, then you're as, or at least generally speaking? Yeah. The assumption would be that the parents aren't working.

Speaker 5: Yeah, but one of 'em [00:35:40] shouldn't. Anyway, so I would disagree with that idea of paying for daycare. I don't you, I don't think we want to create a society where you're, where you're, I don't think you encouraging both people to work.

Speaker 5: It's totally fine if they do, but [00:35:50] I, I don't, I don't,

Matt: I don't think you need to create a society where both people are working or where you're paying for all kinds of things. But I think if you have a frame of time. To just, you know, [00:36:00] catapult something from zero to five. I think it's wise to say like, alright, for the next five years if you have kids, this will be advantageous for the young [00:36:10] family.

Matt: That's, I, I think,

Speaker 5: having said that, there, again, I don't know the exact number, but daycare is, uh, heavily subsidized right now in BC and [00:36:20] from what I understand. It's pretty affordable if you decide to work

Gary: anyway. This is what Poland's doing. Yeah, it was an interesting Poland's President has signed a new law introducing zero personal income [00:36:30] tax for parents raising at least two.

Gary: It works children a reform which aims to support families, increase household income and boost economic activity. The bill presented by Carol Norky in August [00:36:40] removes the income tax obligation on families earning up to uh, 32,000 euros, 33,000 euros, which is about 56,000 Canadian. So anything below that you're not paying tax on.

Gary: [00:36:50] If you have two. Two. Or, or kids. Children. Yeah. Fascinating. It's, it, it works fascinating.

Matt: Like government incentives can work if they don't have to be permanent, but they can basically, you know, [00:37:00] if, if a young Yeah.

Speaker 5: Once the kids are born, I mean, they're born Right. Could repel the law essentially. If

Gary: it, they, I think, I mean, like, I, I know like you get like, what, $600 a month?

Speaker 5: what I'm trying to [00:37:10] say. I, I, I feel like you're relatively incentivized. I feel like it's more people, especially, I'm gonna say this carefully. There are people that are quite selfish. [00:37:20] That would be one reason why they wouldn't have a lot of kids. Yeah. Another reason would just be. Literally they wouldn't think it's affordable.

Speaker 5: Now that could be literally, 'cause they do not have the means. It could [00:37:30] also be 'cause they have an unrealistic expectation of what children need and expect or what they expect for their children. Yeah. For their life. Right? Yeah. I mean, some people would just be like, Hey, if my kid can't [00:37:40] play rep hockey and doesn't have the nicest things, then I don't wanna have another kid.

Speaker 5: Right. I would just be their standard. Right. Whereas like for us, it's like, Hey, are they eating? Like are they clothed? Yes. Are they well loved? They're [00:37:50] fine. Like that's the standard. Right? And, and. Like in the community we live in, you literally run the Salvation Army. Everyone can eat. There's nobody starving in this community.

Speaker 5: Is that a fair statement? Uh, or [00:38:00] is that a, I think no, it is a fair statement. I don't have to ask you. They,

Matt: they, you might think, yeah, it could be fair, but I think more people are struggling than you think [00:38:10] in this city. Struggling. What way? There's
